  1. Don't excited your Zen sensibilities, Sssurfer! :D

Who told you about my Zen, V? :sly:

    Thanks for explaination!

Just checked the thread and it was funny, IMHO. I especially loved the "I've seen small international conflicts escalate into Civil War due to its translation vagaries" part.

I just wonder what you actually typed in English before passing it through Babelfish

  2. One thing, I never "remarked" a Citizen on an Italian! Could it be? The land of Panerai, choosing Citizens?

    Unfortunately, yes.

One thing I'd like to ask a real Italian -- is it really really true one get be arrested or have one's rep watch smashed by Carabinieri on the stop, if caught wearing a rep watch?

I may assure you that's not true.

Unless one gets unlucky enough to get caught in a time when they have to make an example of him (what happens less than 0.001% times).

BTW, Carabinieri would not tell a rep from a gen.

Even not a PAM from a well done small hamburger, I would add.

If they did that in the USA, half the population would shout, "Fascist!", and the other half would run to hide their reps. :D

Yes, but Americans are smart people while the Italians are just sheep.

Everyone get the government (and laws) that they deserve.

By the way, my Italian(-descended) boyfriend remarked, "What about the other 70%?". Jolly joker.

    Obviously, unbranded watches.

P.S.: He bought me a rep Rolex one time, sold by the famous "Marrocchini" (Moroccans, although they are usually Sudanese, etc.) found hocking watches on the beaches of every Italian resort town. I think it lasted a year before dying a merciful death. If laws are so strict in Italian about conterfeits, how do they allow this?

Italian laws are strict about everything, but they are just words on paper.

I won't even furtherly elaborate about which kind of paper.

Great to know you know about our 'Marocchini'!

Even if people selling reps on Italian beachs was especially Chinese and Korean, in the last few years at least.

  3. I know for sure that Lello is in touch with a dial printer who claims to be able to make any perfect dial anyone wants (not for cheap, though).

Lello is currently wondering on whether there may be any interest enough on some projects this kind.

So, if you are interested and you show your interest to him, he might want to take some steps about it.

  4. What's inaccurate about it?

Well, first of all the gen is split-second chrono, while the rep is just chrono (as far as I know, no split-second function has ever been repped, on any watch).

A second flaw is in the chrono and reset pushers. They should be of a same shape, the shape of the reset pusher, while in the rep they are different, 163-like (btw, the 163 is simple chrono).

I already modded this, but had no time to take and post pics of the modded result yet.

A third flaw is in the subdial at 6 o'clock.

The good news is that, having the 147 been made in as low as 35 pieces, very few people can spot it.

Here are side-by-side pics for your convenience:

Apologies to FxrAndy for this small hijacking -- you asked about 42mm PAMs ;)

  5. Your daughter is a true love, congrats!

There is a 42mm cusion case if i am not mistaken? any one got one?

    Gen 42mm radiomirs are:

    065 - 067 - 077 - 078 - 079 - 080 - 098 - 141 - 147 - 158 - 184 - 185 - 204 - 238.

As far as I know, those that have been repped are the 067, 147, and 158.

You may find them in Joshua's 42mm radiomir page.

(In that page you will also find the 047 and the 163, but they are inaccurate, as the gen 047 is 40mm and the gen 163 is 44mm).

I own the Joshua's 147 and I find it a stunning piece, the most beautiful watch I ever had.

  6. The pair 'loose lever + unability to pull the crown out enough to set time' is a tricky one, as it requires two 'opposite' fixing: filing the CG down, AND shortening the stem. FxrAndy explained it at perfection.

Still, it would be an easy fix to any modder (too bad, no watchsmith would perform it, so you can't rely on your local watchsmith, if any).

Even still, to me DSN should take care of it. In the end you paid (and not even cheap) for a working watch.

If he doesn't, let us know. I am currently giving DSN free consulence on some projects of his, and I'll behave accordingly on how he will behave on you.

  7. In Italy people could not care less about what watch you are wearing.

I may also add that grossly:

    - at least 10% wear Rolex replicas (3/4 subs, 1/4 daytonas)

    - 10% all-plastic Rolex hommages that became stylish last year

    - 5% Citizen, Seiko and so

    - 5% Swatch

  8. Well i have other watches that when i screw the crown back in its not actually winding the watch at the same time.. it sorta disengages and just screws back down?

    Ah, I see now, ok.

Sorry, all my A7750 watches are not screw-in crown type so I can't tell about this.

Also when i was winding the A7750 it would a few turns then felt bit stiff then wound then stiff again ... like its getting stuck inside?

This is definitely not normal. I would say that, coupled with the short power reserve, it qualifies the watch for service or return.

Or you may wait for The Zigmeister being back on September and ask for his advice.

  9. Chess sounds sexy.

Although I'd prefer a game of Scopone, like the conde or marchese Vittorio di Sica (who was always playing a conde or marchese) played with a little boy during a whole film, whose title I sadly forget. And he's my favourite director!

Chess or scopone. Sounds like a good way to be captured by the man of my dreams. ;)

    Wow.

So, chess or scopone. Consider it done.

The movie was "L'Oro di Napoli" (1954). The 3rd episode.

Interesting choice scopone! I wonder whether your even good Italian let you know the triple meaning of that world in the Italian language...

  10. SSsurfer, I'd like to marry you, but unless we found a cult where women can have several husbands instead of the more usual, men have many wives, you will have to play a game of canasta to win my hand.

I'll surely do (as long as my current wife will let me to -- she knows I am a terrible canasta player ).

What about a game of bridge, or chess, or MtG, or a kumite?
