  1. What I meant with the glossy finish is what is shown in this web site: Superluminova

Yes, they are offering relume as a service: you send them your dial and hands, then they send them back to you relumed, they do not actually sell SL.

They assure they use original (rcTritec) SL to make your relume.

The matte or glossy finish is what they obtain by mixing matte or glossy varnish to SL powder.

    Hope this makes sense now.

  2. Seems that rctriec accepts wire transfer only and it is a bit difficult the ordering process. But if I can't find it some other place I will order from them. I've been told tha if you use superluminova with glossy effect you don't need any varnish... is it so?

They accepted money in an envelope from me. Just tell Elisabeth that your bank charges scandalous fees on international wire transfers, she will work out a solution for you.

As for the varnish thing: as far as I know, SL only comes in form of powders that you need to mix with varnish (not the way of, e.g., Bergeon luminous paste). And it is the varnish, matte or glossy, that gives the final matte or glossy look.

Anyway I say its still worth the money :)

Completely agree. On a performance/cost ratio, one may not want to spend 2x or more to get only 1.2-1.3x glow.

  3. I can't believe that manufacturing one angelus copy ... is impossible.

(7 day autos and triple barrels are out of the question for me)

    Same thoughts here.

And even just replying the outer plates and look of an 8 day movement would sell like crazy, I would bet.

I have a couple brown dials here that are just waiting for something that way...

  4. I am no expert in rolex, but usually a crystal is not glued, it is pressed on a teflon gasket, and in order to replace it you just need a proper press.

To order from cousinsuk you need to know the diameter and (approximate) thickness of the crystal.

Was the watch a lady model? Had the crystal a cyclops (date lens)?

  6. I tried using some super glue, which kept the crown from coming undone, but I still can't adjust the date on my watch.

I hope you glued the stem to the crown, not the stem into the movement!

Out of joke, most likely the keyless work got screwed up.

An easy fix to any watchsmith.

And yes, 'noobmariner' is a registered trademark of TTK. :)

  7. well if I had the money I would go for SL, but since I am not so walthy as most of you I still will use cheaper products, as Noctilumina.

I had no problems reluming 111h, but I agree that it does have big particles. Non the less, its still good, and glows bright and long enough to tell it was worth those 50bucks!

Surely it is because your great skill in reluming makes you manage even those big parcticles, pubus.

I was unable to cope with them, though.

I just meant to warn all newcomers to relume -- like me -- that SL makes life much much easier than other products.

  8. Superluminova outperforms Noctilumina, Ready Set Glow, and all similar products hands down.

They can sustain comparison with SL only in their original gross-grain form -- which is almost unusable to relume watch dials (with exception for sandwich dials).

The extra-fine grain Noctilumina is pure [censored] compared with SL.

There is a reason why SL is so more expensive than those products.

Give them all a try, compare them, then came back here and tell me if I said something wrong.

  9. Thanks all for your kind words!

I added some data lists to the columns for filtering. It helps if you want to narrow down your search, i.e. If you are looking for a 44mm with black dial, polished bezel, you can filter the columns. You should add this to your next version!
Thanks for the suggestion... Would you give me some more detail on how it is done? I am no great Excel user.

Also there is some contradictory information, like 200, 238, 251 with regard to the description and the info on the table. Just have a look through.
I had a look but was unable to find contradictions on the said models. Please can you point out them?
  10. Ok: to anyone who cares, the latest version of my PAM reference table.

    Many bugs fixed.

    2006 and 2007 models added.

As always, everyone is welcome for mods and corrections.

Especially thanks to wheaton26 for providing some OP and BB numbers.

Edit: now v3.01 with a nice improvement suggested by wheaton26 again -- upper panels (legends) are made fixed so that they stay visible when you scroll through the rows.

Edit Dec 6th 2007: table removed due to this thread.

My apologies to anyone who might need it.
