Has anybody got the 177F Best Edition from Angus?
Drulee replied to silvio's topic in The Panerai Area
At $300, I would invest a little bit more (not sure exactly how much now) and get a DSN 177H. I think it has better lume, better CG and even a better strap (not great, but wearable) and buckle. -
Great, now I can't get to sleep. I just decided to order a 228 GMT from Davidsen, and now I think I'm going to have to add an 088 GMT to the order - thanks a lot! Hope you're happy. You, sir, are truly a craftsman.

Alright, now that I've gotten over my 240 mishap, let's get some more measurements coming in - especially genuine PAMs. Don't make me beg - I'm sure it wouldn't be a pretty sight

I just compared your sandwich dial to mine, and yours looks better I think the top half of my sandwich is thicker.

Pretty good pics for an iPhone Since it's an "homage", the mods are just a matter of personal taste. Re-luming, pressure testing and servicing by one of the established modders will turn that "disposable" into something you may star babying.

Are you sure it was glowing, and not just your pupils dilating

I may just take you up on your offer. I just had a closer look at mine, and it seems to have been damaged during assembly - probably why it managed to work itself apart in the first place.

Just got the solution to my dilemma on another board. Looks like this happens a lot. I just have to put some epoxy on it and push both parts together securely, leave it to dry for 24 hours, remove any residue and re-fit the rotor. It was suggested, that while it was drying, it would be a good time to grease the bearings and gasket. Thanks

Alright, I'm not really blaming Davidsen, just Asian Q.C. in general. In all fairness, I bought this watch from a third party - not directly from Davidsen - so I don't know what it has been through. Here's what happened: I have a habit of flicking my wrist a couple of times, just to hear (and sometimes feel) the movement's rotor spinning around. Well this morning when I did it, I got a little shock. A loud scraping sound could be heard coming from inside the case. I took a look at the seconds hand and, as it was still moving, pulled out the crown to stop the movement and hopefully prevent any major damage from happening. I took the watch off and put it away, planning on inspecting it in more detail upon my return home. Luckily, I had received a new PAM 44mm case opener a few days earlier. This is a great tool, made by blackbard, for "cracking" your cases (he's got them up for sale on eBay, as well). Well, after a few quick turns, I lifted the back off and couldn't believe my eyes - the rotor had fallen apart. To illustrate just what happened, I found a picture of the 7750 movement in its complete form, and edited it to clarify things. Here is a picture of what the "unbroken" movement should look like: Now with the part of the rotor that fell off, in red: What the rotor should look like: And what it looks like now: The inner section of the rotor, which is attached to the winding mechanism, still seems to function - it spins freely when the case is shaken. The outer section (in red on the first pic) has just detached from it. I've removed the outer section from the case and closed it up. The watch is still ticking away now, and keeping time. So, what I would like to know is, what can I do to fix this? Has anyone else had this happen? Is it just typical Asian workmanship?

"Sucks"? It doesn't exist! You bring it into a well lit room and the lights go dim. It's the "black hole" of lume jobs.

Yes, I know - I have an 089 with the correct grey dial. But his original 089 offering had a nice blue dial, before he corrected it. Just thought it looked really nice.

I was looking through DSN's PhotoBucket, the past couple of days, planning on making my next purchase, when I came across his "Blue Dial" version of the PAM 089 GMT (click link to see pic of dial). I wanted one. Well, David let me know the bad news - no more blue dial, only "grey anth dial ... pl study if ok". Needless to say, I'm disappointed. Have any members been lucky enough to own one of these? If you still have one, how about uploading some pics, please? Let me dream at least

Is it a real OEM ti crown and is the asking price ($79US) about right? Here is the link Of course, it looks like he's only selling it to some guy named "Manuel"

I actually have a few of those NATO straps, they're really cheap for a great strap. Bought them on eBay for $10-$12, shipping included, by using the "Make an offer" option. If you like I will try to locate a link to the seller, they always have listings - just do a search for "24mm nato strap" and find the one that has "Make an offer/Best offer" option.

This is the exact watch that got me hooked on Panerai reps. I still have it, and it gets wrist time. I was really impressed with the case - very light, and the movement with its "faux" swan neck. I just wish I could get "Panerai" put on the tobacco sandwich dial, as I love the combination. One thing I noticed about the recessed canon pinion, though. After removing the movement and taking the hands and dial off - just for practice, I compared the pinion to the H3 which has been talked about and looks to be the same height. It is definitely not an H1 and there is a lot of space between the hands. So I wonder if a slight sanding of the minute hand would make it flush with the pin top? Anyway enjoy the watch. Although it may have cost very little, the amount you will end up spending on more Pan reps will cost a lot more I'm collected about ten PAMs in the past month or two. My genuine watches haven't seen much wrist time lately.

Yes he does do "homage" watches. If you go to WatchUSeek dot com, and check the "Panerai Homage Watches" thread, you will see many examples of his work.

Not seeing any pictures and links don't work.

Someone actually married you?!? Welcome Novesh, to a forum where I actually have a few more posts than you, but I'm sure that won't last long

I remember looking at this site a while back, but forgot about it (I've got to sort out all those "Unsorted" bookmarks). I would like to see what their 44mm titanium case is like, compared to Jackson's. Tanya, I'll email him and ask about sapphire crystals for automatic cases, but he doesn't seem to offer them as an upgrade option - which he does for all his manual winds. On the subject of sapphire crystals, does anyone know of some suppliers of these?
-
I think this is a problem, in general, with rep fiddy cases. Not only is it hard to find sapphire crystals, but there is also a problem of some crystals shattering when the case is subject to wide temperature variations.
-
Thanks for contributing. That old school DSN is mighty slim. The JF case's crystal seems to be "riding high", did you measure to the top of the bezel or crystal? If it was to the top of the cystal, that case is ultra-slim Just measured my EL 111 case an crystal, and it's 14.6 - the crystal rises about 1.2mm off the top of the bezel.
-
Any gen in particular? Manual or automatic? Thanks for taking the time to measure them guys

I also find that Jackson is a great source for parts - especially hands, cases and sterile sandwich dials to practice on. Now if I could only find someone to brand those dials As well, I really like his titanium cases - extremely light, good CG and low profile. EDIT: He also just started stocking some great PVD "mini fiddie" cases.
