  1. No, it is totally legit from what I understand, but I didn't mean I was going to order from them (I would use an individual here). I was just talking about that rep.
  2. Thanks rosnik. That looks like a beautiful watch. I'm going to add it to the list. Since it seems you might be a knowledgeable Oris fan, what do you think of the lower-cost F1 models? I'm looking for a b-day gift for a friend, and he's a racing AND watch fan. But since it doesn't get as much press here, it's hard to know if it "feels" quality and reasonable similarity to the gen. these are the watches I mean: http://www.watcheden.com/oris-williams-f1-...-26627-p-1.html
  3. Dammit Mickey! You just forced me to add another watch to my list! Love the combo or class/quirky. If you have or take any more wrist shots (wider, etc...), I'd love to see them. It always helps me decide. Congrats.
  4. I can't track this down on any of the sites? Link please...
  5. Looks good on you bro.
  6. Hey Mick - thanks for bringing this sweet watch some attention. But we need a wrist shot or two of your white version for comparison! Pleeeeease? Thanks again. Z
  7. Reminds me of the straps my dad would wear. They'd get nice and worn down around the holes. I thought it looked just ok after the first two pics, but then I saw the wrist shot. Looks amazing man. Congrats.
  8. Damn, it's always something... I find a rep, and then as I research the cheap version falls apart (no pun intended) Looks like the cheaper version has a white date wheel, but it should be black (and I also fully realize how the mod the chrono movement) $128 NOT $128 Not sure I can deal with the white, even as a gift. Damn. And I'm guessing they don't make an A 21j version of this because the chrono would have to change: What do you all think bout these Quartz versions: http://www.timeshops.net/IWC5770_-_IWC_POR...h_3125-4895.htm http://www.timeshops.net/IWC6917_-_IWC_POR...h_020015-66.htm Thanks
  9. I want to thank everyone for their input. It's been very helpful. Thanks for the FA Jones 1939 suggestions. I'm afraid it's not quite his style though. Damn. So for a faux chrono like this one: http://www.watcheden.com/iwc-pilot-chrono-...-19786-p-1.html The arms essentially just spin (not their intended use) and the buttons don't work. If that didn't matter, this is an Asian 21J. Thoughts? Thank you, I will. Does anyone know if they make a 21J version of this (which seemingly would be cheaper, more reliable but non-chrono working)?: http://www.tt88time.com/index.php?main_pag...roducts_id=3681 I haven't seen one! I did find this, which is similiar but quartz: http://www.timeshops.net/IWC_Schaffhausen_...NOGRAPH_744.htm Thanks again
  10. Here's my situation - I'm buying a few reps for me and one for a surprise birthday present for a friend who likes watches. For me, I've decided on the high end Chopard and Pam187 reps. But for the gift I need to get an entry level version (and it's been tough). Can those of you in the know give me your feedback on which of these you think holds up as the best gift. 1. He won't know about movements or small inconsistencies 2. It will be more about "this looks and feels much like a gen" (and overall coolness) 3717 Chrono http://www.watcheden.com/iwc-pilot-chrono-...-19786-p-1.html I've seen a lot of great things said about this watch, but I'm sure it's always the higher end version. This version? PORTUGUESE White variations http://www.timeshops.net/IWC6917_-_IWC_POR...h_020015-66.htm Nice looking watch, but again not sure of the lower end versions. The blue looks cool, but a little afraid of it in a rep. If it's acceptable though it could be eye catching. PORTUGUESE Black Chrono http://www.tt88time.com/index.php?main_pag...roducts_id=3681 Another great looking watch, but I can't find a "lower end" version. They must make one, since they have them in white face? So any feedback you could give would be great. Really struggling with this one. Thanks for the time! Appreciate it.
  11. Thanks for the info. Has anyone purchased a rep pan that had a buckle clasp like this gen? : http://cgi.ebay.com/PANERAI-RADIOMIR-PAM-2...93%3A1|294%3A50
  12. Been working on ordering some Reps for near a month now. I've got my Chopard done, as well as my Omega. Now, after a trip to the Gen store and a some research, I'm having trouble working out the Panerai I'd like. I first went to the Gen story and tried on a Radiomir and fell in love with it. I thought it was this (didn't pay close enough attention): 183 So I came home and did a bunch of research, but then realized that it was instead this: 287 (on the end) My research seems to show that the 287 is a bit thicker than the 183 (which I like). I can only find one listing of a rep of the 287, and it doesn't have sapphire or a "clasp" buckle. 1. Does anyone know if they make a "high end" rep of the 287? 2. Do any of the Pans come with a buckle clasp? 3. Can anyone shed more light on the difference between the 183 and 287? Thanks so much for the help.
  13. Damn you Stan! I was afraid of that. If only the difference in price was $100 and not $200. All and all worth it I guess, but damn you still! But really - thanks!
  14. I'm a bit of a newbie, but have been looking into Chopard. My understanding of that watch is that the gen's power reserve dial is different; it has increments of 10: Since (in my experience) most non-watch-geeks know much about Chopard, you'd be safe. Just an FYI. Good luck.
  15. Noooooooooooooooooo! I love the tire strap (the gen anyway). How long it stays is another mater. Give me my vanilla!!!
  16. Vanilla smell? I've heard mention that some of the reps come with the vanilla infused smell (read once it hangs around long, once read it didn't). Does anyone know if the cheaper versions come with the vanilla smell (like the non-chrono or the etched versions)? Just curious. Did the more expensive chrono you have, and what did you think of it? Thanks
  17. Thanks for the reminder on the date wheel, although as of now I'm not that big of a stickler (but I can see myself loving the watch so much that I'd spend another 100 to improve it). I do love the look of the red/black racing you have. It's just that most of my watches are about that size, so I think the larger has caught my eye.
  18. Thanks thanks thanks everyone. Helpful feedback, and the pics are great. I'm afraid the better version (especially of this watch) would be the way to go. I think I would have been ok with the lower version of the "non-chrono" (I think ) because it's fairly close. But I made the brilliant move of trying on the Gen of both, and fell in love with the chrono. If the reps going on my wrist of that watch, it needs to look and feel like the gen. Thanks again - glad to hear there are no big issues with it, so now I just need to pull the trigger.
  19. Here's my sad situation. I got started on reps a month ago, and planned on ordering a few low cost models. Of course, the few I landed on had crappy low end versions... The Chopard Mille Chrono was my favorite (tried on the Gen dammit!). The low end version face is nothing like the gen: So I'm stuck with a $300+ option: http://www.puretimewatch.com/index.php?pro...cture_id=980027 (I got quoted better, but still +300) I found this rep version, but I can't find the gen counterpart and am guessing it's either fantasy or an older model. Anyone know?: I've done a ton of research, but mainly for the non-chrono which I originally planned to get. Now that I'm close to spending all this money on one, can those of you in the know give me advice?: What to look out for? Is this rep worth it? (convince me it isn't!!! ) Lower cost option I've missed? I've heard it can be loud! Really a big issue? Auto/Quartz/etc... Thanks a million, J
  20. No question - If you want this watch, size matters! Decisions...
  21. Thanks everyone. Very helpful. It all makes sense now. I started really digging the Carrera, but didn't realize there were different sizes (date vs day/date). I was close to ordering the black/red Date version. Then I went and tried a few on, the same day I read about the "correct size" rep, and I couldn't make heads or tales of the different sizes. The only bad news is that I'd only want the Day/Date size, and that can't be had for less than $250... Thanks again.
  22. Thanks so much. This is very helpful. Clearly then, the gal at the store didn't know what she was talking about. The "Grand" Carrera above was not the watch I tried on. This was the brown Carrera I tried on that was neither as wide or thick as... This one. I had trouble figuring it out because the only differences I kept reading in all the rep threads I dug up was that this was the "2008" version. Do you happen to the if the first incarnation (hastily) put together in the 41mm has the same thickness as the gen/new rep? I'm guessing not. Thanks again for taking the time in your post. I really appreciate it.
  23. Hi, After 3 weeks of daily research, I think I've spun myself silly and could REALLY use a little help. 1st: I did a few weeks of computer research and picked what I wanted 2nd: I want to the store to try the gens so I could solidify my choices I had decided to order was a brown Carrera, but the watch store didn't have it. They did have a black one, which I really ended up liking. Was a very big/bulky watch and it stood out on your arm. Anyway, I went home not realizing there were different sizes until... I discovered a review that talked about the "new" Carerra rep that was the correct size (discussed here: http://www.rwg.cc/members/Review-Tag-Heuer-Carre-t97469.html ). Figuring I needed another look, I went to Macy's to see what they had. The had the brown I had been looking for, ALONG WITH the original black Carerra which was MUCH wider and thicker. She said the big one was the "Grand Carerra". So now my head is spinning - questions: + Is the "Grand Carerra" the big one, and how can I tell that's the rep I'm ordering? + Is the older/cheaper Carerra rep that is 2mm smaller than the new rep still thick and pretty darn close in size, or is it the size of the brown carerra I tried on I really appreciate the help. I want the big black Carerra I tried on at the store, but I'm not sure if I can order the cheaper version and get something close or if only the new version will do it. Thanks big time, J
  24. Hi all, As I've been researching the Carrera (and was about to buy a brown face), I came across the fact that a new "correct size and back" model has been released. It's shown and discussed here: http://www.rwg.cc/members/Carrera-correct-size-t95706.html Can you tell me if this is available in any other versions (looking for the brown face)? Also, is the black version only available in the more expensive sapphire version, or is there cheaper mineral? I appreciate it. J
