  1. I remember reading one several days ago. One of the flaws, if I recall correctly, is that the caseback and clasp is polished matte, instead of something else, amd that was a giveaway. Also, the bezel markings are not as fine as the gen. But other than that, it's an excellent rep. You'd be able to pick up a Gen on the second hand market for about $1200 USD. Considering the rep is at least $220 + shipping, the gen isn't too expensive.
  2. Full Swiss Grade One AAA+ - you'll find that at a Rolex AD (authorized dealer).
  3. IIRC, the SS black ceramic sub has not yet been released, or announced.
  4. No it would not fit. Case dimensions are different.
  5. The best answer i've found on the forums is: The material for making lume (superluminova/tritium etc. etc.) is very costly and pound-for-pound, is worth more than its weight in gold. Due to the working conditions and socio environment of the factories, most factories won't trust it's sweatshop underage, and underpaid staff with such an expensive/valuable commodity.
  6. I am a student. And a retail investor in my spare time.
  7. Thanks for replying and clarifying things, I was a bit unsure as to what you meant by the 'hour hand moves in one hour increments.' I will definitely pull the trigger on one now.
  8. I understand from By-tor's review that the ETA 2836-2 movement has the GMT hand moving in one hour increments. Is this the same for the 21j and Asian clone 2836-2?
  9. The seconds at 6 will also pose a problem, if I reciall correctly.
  10. I was absolutely smitten after buying my first rep, a Breitling Skyland V3. The only qualm I had was the flimsy clasp on the bottom of the bracelet. After scouring the forum(s) for what seemed like millenia hours, it appeard that this was one of those inevtiable afflictions associated with rep-horology.... Until a couple of hours ago where I had an epiphany.... ...to use pliers to straighten up the clasp walls to secure it. Now, due to the materials used and the construction of the bracelet, it's safe to say that the clasp won't break from the sheer brute strength exerted by you. In retrospect, I would suggest that you use a thin cloth, for example a thin microfibre cloth that comes with your prescription glasses, to cover the clasp before you 'squeeze' the bracelet in order to avoid any scratches. I didn't bother and knew that it could be a problem, but it was just a rep ss bracelet to me and there are much larger marks from desk diving and what not. Here is a pic of the claw marks left from the pliers: (You could attribute it to 'everyday wear and tear' ) As you can see, there's a thin hairline scratch. End result: Very satisfied The clasp now shuts close with a loud and more assuring 'SNAP!' and it takes a lot more energy open and close it. It's also confidence inspiring, as I'm no longer hesitant to take is bungy jumping with me. Here's the obligatory 'wrist-shot' The AS v3 is my first and only rep, although I'm sure that it will work on other similar clasps as well such as the bracelet for the rolex sub and others with a flimsy clasp. I've joined the forums (note the plural) about a month ago, and have spent easily several hours aday catching up on all the news and reviews of the rep world. Thanks for keeping places like these alive, you guys are the foundations and cornerstone for the existance of a high-quality rep world. I can only hope to contribute a little bit to this wealth of knowledge. I know that the flimsy clasp issue is a common problem among reps as I constantly read about it reviews and posted threads. I hope that somene else would find this useful. Cheer guys! btw I bought my 'plier' as a set of 3 from my local hardware store for the equivalent of about USD 6.50
  11. Nice watch! Well done. Don't listen to the others criticising you for your flair. All of them are too insecure and lack the confidence to wear such a piece with dignity. They would much rather wear a plain and simple Panerai where it would be harder for them to be 'caught out' than striding out with such an awesome and magnanimous piece. /edit included
  12. I really like this design. The baby blue is absolutely whimsical!
  13. I just sold my 16gb Ipod touch 1st gen. Now I'm looking to buy a smart phone. I love iTunes, it's a pity that I won't be able to transfer music to other devices... Or will I?..
  14. In fact, I'm heading away in September for a couple of months too but not to any third world countries. I wouldn't be surprised if we were both doing the same thing.
  15. What a coincidence! I'm about to do some serious travelling too and have been looking out for alternative GMT/Dual time watches. I'll share what i've found so far: Apart from the Rolex GMT and Explorer II's, other 'more discrete' models are the: - Panerai 088 and 297; the main difference between them is the presence of a metal bracelet on the latter - Scuderai GMT - Chopard MM GT - these come in a range of different bezel colours - IWC UTC St Exupery - Breitling Navitimer World - Chanel GMT - Montblanc Timewalker GMT - Louis vuitton Tambour GMT - There's also an Omega Seamaster GMT. I won't be pulling the trigger on one for another month or so but after taking into account the need for durability, adequate reliability, and value/rep accuracy, i'm leaning towards BK's Explorer 2 for $340 intl shipped. I'm not much of a Frolex fan but i feel that the large hour font on the bezel makes it easier to tell the time compared with the other offerings' hour font on the dial itself. I understand the desire to be 'discrete' especially while travelling. On the explorer 2, I think it's profile is understated enough to be overlooked from a distance. Although, another 'more discrete' option imho, would be a Rolex Pro hunter GMT on a nylon strap. The main issues with the pro hunter gmt, when compared to the explorer 2, are the more significant rep flaws, and the chance of an unreliable movement since they're mostly sold by drop shipping dealers. A gen alternative would be a dual-time casio g-shock. They are unbreakable, accurate, and won't draw attention.
