  1. I think you'd definately want a cheap, but good, gen. Victorinox and Wenger both do uber cheap "field watches" which should be a consideration if you want to retain a little style. But I agree with the others here, Casio G-shock. They're nearly impossible to kill, cheap, reliable and extremely accurate. The G-shock section over at watchuseek is an interesting read and they'll have you believing they're a thing of beauty in their own right (albeit when seen from a very different perspective to Swiss mech). My other choice would be to go a Swatch; not a gaudy rainbow design but a nice, plain steel. Pretty sure you can get some in auto. Have fun!
  2. Thanks, charmquark. That was my thought exactly but (google) research has shown the Wenger's logo has remained the same for many years and was never oval. While I'd really like to ID this I don't mind if it turns out be completely worthless, just would like to know it's story.
  3. Brisbane, QLD here (Inner north). But could possibly do a Melbourne... I get to Melbs officially a couple times a year but I do like visiting Melbs for various personal reasons. So with enough notice could do perhaps attend. And, in 7-14 days will have my first HQ rep! fingers crossed. So I'd have something appropriate to wear.
  4. Hi, trying to indentify this watch is actually how I found this forum... It was bought at an LAX airport duty free shop, 9 years ago. While it doesn't appear to be Victorinox or Wenger it's branded Swiss Army. It was pressure tested many years ago but given my age (I was very young) I don't have any details about that except the anecdote that it was "waterproof". Shopping centre watch repair shops are unable to open it as it supposedly requires the 'old Rolex tool' to undo the screw back. So the twice it's needed a new battery in the nine years I've had it, it has had to go to a top level jeweller/watch servicer. As the logo doesn't match any of the official Swiss Army brands, and given it's place of purchase it's hard to believe it's a rep. My best guess is that perhaps it was built by a now defunct Swiss Army homage brand. Weeks of intermittent googling has turned up exactly no info on it, or any similar version of the logo. Perhaps the experienced folk here might be able to help? Thanks for reading. Here's some lo-res close-ups Face: Back: Band Stamp: Here are some hi-res versions Face Back band
  5. Hi! Oh, trailboss... I've been waiting patiently thinking it may rectify after the forum upgrade but think it's time to mention, your sig link for the Aussie GTG isn't working.
  6. Edit: just realised how easily this could be used to identify me.... I work with words.
  7. Thanks for the info offshore. Before the forum went down, I read as much as I could and have made my first payment for purchase this morning. I went for the famous noobmariner, simply because there's so much info and conjecture about it, that it will be good for point of reference. I ordered from Eurotimez who's been very helpful with my noobery. I've found them to be excellent to deal with so far. Trailboss: Great to hear there's more of us! Will definately be keen for a GTG Sunny or Gold Coast or even Melbs. I work about 70-90hr weeks, including weekends and so, have to plan well in advance.
  8. Oh, KB, just checked the Camels hands because you spotted the different parts and yeah, they appear to have submariner hands, so I'm part way there
  9. Thanks for the welcome guys, I'm active on a few forums for other hobbies and I must say, RWG is a very friendly and mannerly forum. Offshore, I get to both coasts regularly depending on the waves and KB, I get Melbs a couple of times a year on business, so would be excellent to see your your collections in the flesh. To my knowledge I've never actually laid eyes on a high quality replica. My next step in properly identifying the Swiss Army is to take some pics, so once batteries are charged I'll post em here. I do have a couple Aus specific questions which I'd like to pick the knowledge of your experience on... Do we have any dealers of good reps out here or do you guys always source internationally? And, how tough are our customs for single imports? Thanks again!
