  1. Ok cool, just a coincidence then. Was thinking it'd kinda suck if the quality of experience went down after paying for upgrade. Cheers.
  2. Could it be something to do with the extra java or frame blockers etc, that load after upgrading?
  3. Since upgrading my account, RWG is crashing the browser. Is there a known fix? Using IE8, Firefox is not an option as it runs slower on this machine.
  4. Thank-you astrograph, didn't want to bump this till I'd upgraded my membership so i really appreciate your help.
  5. Hey, I don't usually like the pam look (just not my thing) but this is awesome! Is there anything like this to buy out of the box?
  6. Wow man! You have some watches. As far as I've seen here (noob, but i'm reading a lot) you seem most qualified to ask... What do you think of the Hublot reps? Great pics, all of them.
  7. I'll follow suit^ with my first wrist check post, and my first rep, the n00bmariner: Is it ok to post gens in these wrist checks?
  8. It din't say it on the site I bought it from, but on another (they both official collectors here) it stated in general terms; that auto movements should be hand wound 10-12 rotations once they've stopped... Outside of this space, I've been told never to hand wind auto movements. Of course, in this case I'm referring to the DG2813 movement. I know it will be a simple questions for most here, so I apologize in advance for my Noobery. Cheers!
  9. You could try telling them you're looking for something in the style of... (insert watch here. ie: submariner) and see if you get a bite.
  10. No probs at all! I've now gone and used it on one of my gens that has ceramic mid links, and a couple were kind of stiff; again perfect results. Even if you're not in Aus, I'd suggest checking your stores to see if it's there (I'm not sure if it's only an Aus product). It's amazing stuff and ridiculously cheap. Oh, supposedly because it's for car door hinges (or rather the "strap") it won't collect dirt/particles.
  11. This may only apply to Australians, and most will already know this product. Hope it hasn
  12. This week it would be the Big Bang Aspen (no ice): (pic nabbed from google) But next week it will be something completely different...
  13. As a nub I can say with authority () that this is a great idea. Though as a nub, I assure you I'd only be interested in 'best out of the box, for X dollars.
  14. Australia here. 1. Rolex 2. Omega 3. IWC 4. Philippe Patek 5... This is hard. I'd like to say Breitling, even though I personally don't like them. But only WIS people know them here. I can't actually think of a #5 well known high end luxury brand. Though Sinn is becoming very known asd popular here. Most people know Tag, Tissot, Longines and Rado (Rado's are horrible IMO) and owners of them think they are top tier. But my watch-liking friends and I all agree they're considered second tier. Better than Seiko etc, but NOWHERE near Omega/Rolex. Also these are brands you can buy everywhere here, including department stores. Some interesting things; I'd never even heard of Ebel till I hit the forums (watchuseek), and Movado? Haven't heard of it till this very thread.
  15. Just got my first purchase; the Noobmariner, from Eurotimez. Chris and all the staff I dealt with were very helpful, especially with my n00bery. Being new, I definitely asked some silly questions and very probably annoyed the guys a little bit, but they were gracious, helpful and above all, always felt trustworthy. Eurotimez will definitely remain "my guys". I'd also like to thank the good people here for being welcoming and again, helpful with my noobness. Wouldn't have happened without RWG. Thanks to all. I'm sure you've all seen the Noobmariner before, but here are my pics. Sorry they're night pics: Boxed: Wrist: With some gen friends: I have a large collection of gens, mostly mid to high end "fashion" watches. So what did I think of my first rep? Initially underwhelmed, I filed, buffed polished and lubed (have a great product technique tip for other Aussies on the lube but I'll post elsewhere) and now it's a lot better. Having been out to local jeweller/watch/clock supplier and bought a couple hundred dollars worth of tools and parts, I definitely plan to work on it some more. I'm VERY impressed with the dial. A tip for other noobs, pay for the better movement, I didn't. Thanks again Eurotimez and RWG peeps, you all rock. Now, about that Planet Ocean...
  16. Thanks for all the info, guys. Apart from the wax lube tip, thanks P4GTR,the best info is the reassurance that all is normal. Will get the wax lube asap and try oil the bezel I guess. Thanks all for helping a noob.
  17. Ok, first let me say I have searched extensively. I've searched here, the other acceptable forums and of course google. I know the noobmariner is considered the best rep bracelet. Though it needed serious work out of the box... I've oiled (three in one brand, quick drying silicon) filed, polished, buffed and tightened but it still rattles like a street fake. Seriously, I have $10 no name gens that don't rattle at all. Everyone says this is great rep bracelet but mine feels weak, flimsy and above all; makes a rattling noise at the slightest move. Are there any tips from the experienced peeps here? Also By-Tor's review describes the bezel as "smooth". Mine is like this: youtube vid (bezel at 2.11). Again, I've searched and searched but can't find a definitive answer. I know the bezel is hard to remove but is there anything I can do about these things? Thanks for reading and hopefully helping a n00b, any advice is much appreciated. Dan.
  18. This one is, yeah, but it's the only one that says limited edittion. The others in the range I bought are mineral. Also this one has a Jap auto while the others are Philipines.
  19. It's possible to buy good, even great, quality gen automatic watches for under $100 (USD I'm assuming). I only own one "HQ" rep so far, the noobmariner and from what I've read it's considered the second or third best sub rep out there. IMHO, ompared to even cheap gens it's very underwhelming. Below is one of the watches from my gen collection. It's an "Industrie" brand and the construction is exceptional. Admitedly, I got it at the end of financial year sales about a month ago. But I picked it up, and three others while I was at it, reduced from 399 to 69 AUD (that's about 60USD or 40 Euro), as you can see from the attached receipt image. Sure it's not Omega and it's not a swiss movement but it keeps impeccable time, has a five year warranty and I like it. When I wear this watch everyone who sees it wants a closer look and thinks its beautiful. Oh, it's 42mm and weights 190grams. As many nice gens as I own though, I still plan on buying more reps (UPO is next)!
  20. Thanks for the speedy and reassuring trailboss, much appreciated! Think that's probably all my noob questions out of way. At least about the ordering/importing part
  21. Hi, thought I'd post here instead of starting a topic... can you tell me exactly what your tracking message said about customs? Bit worried because my watch (first buy ever) has reached Aus and the message says "handed over to custom". This may be normal but the term "Handed over" kind of intones bad news... 0.0
  22. How about simply "Frankenrep" (Franken-Rep, FrankenRep, FR, etc.) in order to distinguish from the term "Franken" quoted by the OP?
  23. I hope it's all good. I just ordered my first (to Brisbane). Would really suck for the first transaction to go awry. Please keep us posted. Also, what is this "Bergies" you speak of?
