Newbie question here..
How much a lightly Used Sub costs? Is it worth to buy a 800$ movement and a 300$ MBW case and probably a genuine bracelet and put them all together with modifications (as Ubi says)..
It seems a bit crasy to me, but I don;t know many things about Rolex..
Just that on ebay the other day it was sold an Explorer in like new condition (genuine of course) for 1350£ which is cheap if you like Rolex...

It kind of depends... A genuine vintage Submariner (1680) can be worth $4000 US to $7500 US, depending on the dial type (white or red font), condition, box and papers, etc. So, the cost to build one can be much less than the cost to buy a genuine, though with a frankenstein the provenance is also an issue (but since we're dealing with reps, it's a non-issue). Personally, I like to build, so the frankenstein is a more interesting route to take, but for overall value and future resale, the genuine is definitely the way to go.

I have two different AS movements- One is a 1906 (I believe) and the other is an 180x (don't recall the specific caliber no.). Both have pinions for 90/150/22 sized hands- Same as the ETA, except for the seconds hand...

It's a completely different movement than the 775x. The 2894-2 is a 2892 with a DD chronograph module on top. The subsidiary dial spacing is going to be much different than a 7753's...

How is the overall finish of the dial? Is the radial finish more prominent in this version? Are the subdials still glossy? I know Bob was working these issues with DW, and each step had become progressively better and better. I'd like to see how things are looking as of current

$175 for servicing/overhaul on a chronograph movement is a damn good price. In my experience, I've found that there are a lot of watchmakers charging double that, or sometimes more to do a comparable job. For the work and expertise that Rob (Ziggy) offers, his prices are a bargain.

cskent- It's really not a difficult swap at all- The most challenging part in the project was lining up the new overlay to be straight and even while keeping the numbers properly aligned. Other than that, it's a pretty simple job (provided you have all the parts and tools needed to do the work). If you're going to be doing this swap in an Omega, you may not have to deal with an overlay at all.

I did this swap on a watch that I gave to a friend a couple of months ago. I ordered TWG's 21j Asian Auto Sub, and had an ETA laying around that fit perfectly. The only items I changed on the watch were the movement, the movement ring (got rid of the plastic one and used a metal one I had with the screws and clamps), the hands (appropriate 90/150/25 for ETA), and I changed out the bezel insert for a genuine. As for actual modifications that need to take place in order for this swap to work-
1) The dial feet need to be cut off, and the dial needs to be fixed to the movement spacer ring as the dial feet locations are completely different between the two movements.
2) The datewheel overlay from the 21j has to be swapped to the ETA (unless your ETA already has the appropriate overlay on it; in my case, I had to do the swap, as the ETA was new).
Here's what I started with...
21j Asian Auto is uncased, and here I've made the datewheel overlay swap.
Dial and hands installed, ready to go back into the case.
Finished up...
Final product.
