So the new A7753 might not be a true 1:1 with Swiss, but at least it's a solid and reliable mech. Thanks for the review AND follow up, Zig! I am sure the question of quality and longterm reliability of this new movement was on the minds of many; your look inside is something that few can bring to the table, let alone in true Zigmeister style and form.
Ali-
That's not what I would call a Superdome, per se. The raised sides are more characteristic of the later service replacement. The Superdome is more like your first image:
Most of the Swiss ETA 2846 movements out there are old stock anyways, I believe; that is not a current production movement to my knowledge, so even with the changes in distribution ETA is introducing, that wouldn't have much of an effect on availability.
If you are set on having a confirmed Swiss 2846, I'd keep an eye out for a complete donor watch with this movement inside. Shouldn't be very expensive, and may have better luck than trying to find a movement a la carte (though I still see those available from time to time as well).
Well, there are a couple of crystals out there for the 1665; the original 'Superdome' 25-39, a medium domed 25-39, a service 25-39 which has a slight dome, raised sides and a bevel at the edge, etc.
There are no flat topped crystals available for the 1665 (genuine or otherwise to my knowledge), if by flat the defined surface is actually flat (a la the 25-127 on the 1680)...
Zig sets the bar... But nothing new there
Another excellent review and tear down! It's always interesting to get a peek inside of these mechanical marvels to wrap ones' head around how these things tick.
Thanks for taking the time to share your discoveries with us!
