  1. I love beaver pelt. Not the animal kind though...
  2. On the underside of the crown... These details really stand out to me: And of course, the coronet on the top of the crown. That and the Triplock dots on a crown that only fits a Twinlock tube...
  3. I don't believe this '702' crown is really genuine. Compare it to your other 702 and 703; look at the coronet and the underside of the crown splines. It doesn't look right to me (your other 702 and 703 are correct).
  4. Looking good, FGD! Looking REALLY good!
  5. Does it really matter why people wear something over another? Personally, I wear what I like- Some of my collection is vintage Rolex stuff... Some is IWC, some is Panerai, some is Omega... Some watches have no name on the dial. I enjoy each for different reasons, but don't really care if anyone else notices, as it probably doesn't matter to them. Much like it doesn't matter what someone else is wearing to me. It doesn't hurt me personally if someone buys something for a status symbol; it doesn't have any effect on me whatsoever. Unless I know someone personally, I'll likely never see them again and even if I do know them, why they buy what they do is their business. I'm not going to judge or criticize their choices. I think people in general need to stop worrying about what someone else is doing, and start worrying about themselves.
  6. Indeed it can! Works great- dial feet for a 9411 fit right in... No need to modify it to get things to play nice. Beat rate is slightly different, but that's about it...
  7. V7734 and P3133 have a completely different calendar mech. As such, the design of the datewheel is quite a bit different... image borrowed from another site LHOOQ beat me to the punch!
  8. You could use one from a 5513/1680 (either gen or rep/aftermarket)... I think I probably have one or two sitting around. I'll check later tonight, and if I have one to spare, it's yours gratis...
  9. The 16800 is such a funky piece; matte dial with the sapphy crystal. It's a strange combination, but what it all comes down to is that it's kind of the best of both worlds if you enjoy both modern and vintage Subs. Nice build, Andy!
  10. Personally, I don't mind the mix. Having vintage and modern mingling together isn't a bad thing; if someone interested in modern models happens to stumble upon a vintage thread and suddenly discovers the beauty and charm of a vintage piece, that would be a good thing Or vice versa...
  11. Well, their goal is to make money And they seem to do so quite well. In the big picture, they'd rather focus on the people that buy Rolex for the image it represents; in contrast the collector's segment is a small niche in relative terms when compared to the global market of people who will buy a new Rolex sinply for having a Rolex (with no real interest in the oldies, the history, etc). Few of those folks end up becoming involved in the brand and discovering the vintage stuff, but I am sure that this figure is probably pretty low in the ratio. Even vintage collectors buy new pieces every now and then... They gotta have their beaters, right?
  12. Perhaps someone who has upgraded their insert to correct the 10 minute marker has a spare/old insert to help with a pearl? Or, maybe get in touch with the dealer you originally purchased from to obtain a new insert? If you have the mis-spaced 10 min marker, this would be a good time to update that as well...
  13. I keep coming back to look at this one... The more I see it, the more I love it!
  14. Nick, Glad to have you here with us! Thank you for posting and for being a part of our home All the best and here's to a speedy recovery! //ubi
  15. Been a while since I've let this one see some sunlight...
  16. Well, I had a chance to exchange some emails with the owner previous to the one I purchased this Fifty Fathoms from; rather interesting story actually. The watch was discovered 3 years ago at a vendor that sells vintage gens of all things. So, no real lead or clues on where the watch originated, but still rather odd
  17. Simply put- Rolex would rather see vintage collectors put their 40 year old Subs in the moth balls and instead go out and buy a new Submariner. Rolex would rather you spend $6000.00 on a new Submariner instead of receiving $600 revenue via an RSC for servicing of an old 5512. Rolex would rather not produce parts for a 40 year old movement when they can focus on producing parts for new watches that bring in more revenue. I suppose Rolex doesn't really have to bank on their heritage; the name Rolex is widely known and even people that have zero interest or knowledge in watches know what a Rolex is.
  18. LOL... That guy's got an answer for everything!
