  1. Well, there seems to be more problems with this movement so I have ordered both a 2813 and a 4813 movement from Cousins since they were pretty cheap. My hand remover and sticky-ball should be here at about the same time as the movements. I would like to put in the 4813 unless if it's a direct (or near) swap. I can then use this noobmariner movement to "learn" on and, who know, I might even be able to figure out what's wrong with it!
  2. I may not need to do this. I have discovered, and had it confirmed by the seller, that this particular watch often has issues like this when the crown is cranked down very snug. Apparently the stem pushes in too far and puts some of the works into a bind. After resetting mine this morning and not getting overzealous with the crown it's ran flawlessly all day. I may still get a movement to play with, however, and order some tools... Thanks for responding.
  3. I want to get a "spare" movement for my new "noobmariner" as it's current movement seems to be stopping at random times. Externally is there any way to tell if I need to order a 2813 or 4813 movement? I would like to retain the same set of hands as well. I'm not interested in "upgrading" to a high-beat movement as this is intended as my daily/"beater" watch. I've never swapped a movement but I guess I'll need a case back opener (sticky-ball on order), jewelers screwdrivers (have), hand puller, (will buy), and something to get the hands poked back on correctly (will need). Anything else?
  4. I'll maybe do that this weekend if I have time. I'll do a search on how to do this so I don't tear something up - I don't think this bracelet is the most heavy-duty thing in the world...
  5. mmmm, beer... Oh, I understand.
  6. Mike, thanks for the explanation. I had always assumed that the jewel bearings also reduced friction as well...
  7. D4ME posted (on a different forum) that the supplier might have goofed on mine. He said the pictures of mine look like a VIP mariner instead of a noobmariner and he would check with them to see if the noob was again being produced without rehaut engraving. As far as rotor, mine has the A21J as well, I can hear it if I rotate my wrist and hold the watch right up against my ear but I don't consider it loud. But, then again, I don't really know how loud LOUD is! This is about the same volume level as the one in my low-end Daytona...
  8. I received the noobmariner I ordered from watchwoot/D4ME today and thought I'd give my first impressions. The watch feels good and quite substantial, fit and finish seem to be very nice - good attention to detail. The only thing that detracts from the item is the band/bracelet. It feels rather cheesy, flimsy, and rather rattly - but, considering the price point of the watch everything can't be perfect and I'm told even plagues the gen version. I have read that a lot of the reps have a bezel insert that is not properly "sunk" into the bezel, the fit of this insert seems very good to me and only stands a couple thou proud of the metal bezel - really only noticeable under magnification. One thing that might make some feel better is no engraving on rehaut. I remember reading posts with grumblings about the "new" version having the incorrect engraving. I am by no means anything other than a "noob" but I feel this is a great watch for the money. Here are a couple of pics:
  9. Perfect! Exactly what I was looking for. I had searched e-Bay and guess I used the wrong search terms. Thanks!
  10. Thanks for posting this question, I've been trying also...
  11. gioarmani, I've read all of the horror stories about the "seconds at 6" movement and wonder why somebody with a little mechanical aptitude couldn't fix it. I've never actually worked on watch innards but I wonder how difficult it would be (for a machinist) to ream out the offending holes and epoxy (or however they are supposed to be attached) jewels into the offending spots...
  12. I guess this is as good a place as any for an intro and first post. I was in IT/computers for over 20 years and finally got to the point where I couldn't deal with certain aspects anymore so am now a machinist...
