  1. A post from a few days ago got me looking; where can I find a "Rolex" rotor for my ETA 2846? It's not going to fool anyone knowledgeable about Rolex, but it matches the brand on the dial. Suggestions? Thanks!
  2. PayPal did this to me was well. While building my new home we were ordering quite a few things (especially from China) and exceed the 10K per month threshold. Just speak to customer service on the phone and they will confirm if legit. They throttle back your account otherwise.
  3. My wife and I are finishing a new house we had built. I've installed LED lights throughout, principally those unitized, recessed ceiling lights that you see on ebay. I came up a few lights short, and on Sunday May 20th at 10 pm I ordered four more (about $40 each so you don't mistake this for a large commercial order, with free shipping). Shipped DHL standard, they showed up on Wednesday May 23. From China. What's up with that? I don't get stuff from Amazon that fast. Why do our watches take so long??
  4. I've done a search here, and lots of good info on building a 6542. But, nothing recent regarding updates, so here is my question: What case do you recommend for a 6542 build? Andrew and Josh have vintage subs (no crown guards) that look good. Raffles-time has some no CG sub cases (I think they are sterile), but they use a larger dial (29mm). Suggestions? G.
  5. No way is this a rep. It's left over parts/cases from the original production of the watch, with a substituted A7750. If you look at the mechanism of the bezel activated chrono function (there's a tear-down of the Hamilton on WatchUseek), you can see that the tensioning mechanism is way too complicated for rep factories to tackle for such a modest cost original. Also, just like the genuine, the small lettering on the dial is lumed as well ("Automatic"). I ordered one. A little over a year ago I purchased a NOS Hamilton 7750 off the 'bay. I think I've found a place to put it. This model was discontinued over QC issues of the chrono function, and I'm sure the rep will have the same issues. Should be fun for awhile, though.
  6. To be fair I haven't handled a Sean or TC case. Hopefully someone more experienced that I am can do that comparison. I don't mean to be unhelpful on this; what I appreciate is how much help everyone in this forum contributes. There is a thread on RG about this too, with some photo's and measurements I took of the case I purchased (the photo's are of poor quality). You can search my screen name over there and find it. Curt was kind enough to host the pictures. Garrett
  7. Woof, the only thing it's missing is the stamping on the inside of the case back. And so far, I haven't found anyone who can do that for a reasonable fee (one quote was for $400). I guess I won't be opening up the case back to show people.
  8. Take a look at the 16610 case at Star Time. I purchased one; it appears to be 1:1 with the gen ($169), and it certainly takes gen parts. Phong just engraved a 1991 serial number on it for me. I think you'll come out ahead on your project (cost wise) with theirs.
  9. I want to drill my lugs on my 1655 Explorer case. Several good "how to" articles are available, but I wasn't clear on the size of the drill bit. Does anyone know? Thanks, Garrett
  10. I got mine; part of the delay was my fault. I Paypal'd to a misspelled address (no harm no foul...it didn't go through). Once my payment got through it took 2 weeks exactly to receive the movement. It's perfect in everyway. I haven't checked it's accuracy electronically yet, but I'll get to that eventually. I'm going to build a franken of sorts in a Glashutte rep case with a sterile dial. Garrett
  11. I was trying to contact Sean (etaswiss.net) about his YM case, but I haven't gotten a reply from him. This is after CNY, so I don't think that's the issue. Anyone know if he's still active out there? Thanks, Garrett
  12. Well, this is hush hush, but they are about to release some "1:1 Replication, made with a Genuine Watch fully disassembled" items. I can't wait!
  13. I've looked at most of the usual suspects (Trusted Dealers) to find this version, but I can't. I am guessing that it's no longer available. That's too bad as the dial is really nice. Garrett
  14. Haven't gotten mine yet. Usually takes at least 2 weeks from Europe (although I've had the odd experience of something getting here in 4 days). Garrett
  15. My understanding was that prior to production of the 7753 D-D made modules for Valjoux giving the subdial layout seen now on the 7753. A moonphase module was made as well. They are not common, and that was why I was looking for one. Garrett
  16. It appears to be an ETA 7753 (from email with the seller). Actually, it would be great if it was a 7750 with a Dubois-Depraz module applied; I've been looking for one of those (at a decent price) for several years. I'll post again after it arrives. I realize how imprecise "tricompax" is, and how it's become a generic term for a triple register 9-6-3 layout in a mechanical chronograph. At that price however, I was willing to take a chance. I bought some magic beans too. Garrett
  17. In for a Tricompax. I sent € 223 to her this morning for the movement plus shipping (about $296 USD). I love that movement (but not in an unnatural way) and new ones are always way over priced. I'll let you know when it lands. Garrett
  18. I'd like to replace the case tube and crown on my Exp II from Josh. Which replacement set (reference number) do I use? Thanks, Garrett
  19. What is the best source for a Milgauss second hand? (Lightning bolt style) I haven't had much luck finding one. Thanks, Garrett
  20. I am modifying a 47mm Egi case to accept a display back. I removed the display back from my Jackson Luminor case (47mm case), and the display back is 43mm across. The Egi case needs a display back that is approximately 45mm across (44mm or 46mm would work also). Does anyone know where I can get a display back of that size? Thanks! Garrett
  21. Helen Rou has a number of "Swiss" ETA movements for sale on the 'bay. I've done a search on here, and most transactions with her have been favorable. My only question is whether her movements are genuine, or simple Asian clones with the ETA stamp/hash mark? Thanks, Garrett
  22. Thanks Alligoat. Yes....I noticed that they have "Swiss ETA" models available, but from reading here it seems that you are just as likely to get an asian clone movement as a true ETA (even though you are paying extra for the ETA version). This should make a nice little project watch. I am hoping I can get it fairly water resistant too with some extra work. Garrett
  23. I saw the new 42mm Explorer II on Josh and Andrew's sites, and thought it might be a fun project to start on. Would the ETA 2836-2 be the right movement for this watch? I realize there are a number of things that are incorrect on this rep, and I can source those parts as this progresses. Thanks as always. Garrett
