  1. Aww, they deleted it. Garrett
  2. I've been following this listing since it first came on with a price of $2K. What's surprised me is how many people have bid on it. I have a hard time believing that people with disposable income to purchase this fake are actually going to do so. I'm suspicious that many of the bids are just done to pull the chain of the seller. It will be fun to see how it plays out. Garrett
  3. Not yet. The watchsmith who is overhauling my movement is a Rolex AD, so I make sure he never sees me with anything that might be considered contraband. I am using a DW case (for the 7750 movement), modified with a case back for the Valjoux 72. I don't plan on finishing this myself, but rather having one of the modders here do the final work. I am sort of subcontracting each step along the way at this point. Garrett
  4. I was measuring 6mm for the movement height, and 31mm diameter. The 7736 was substituted a number of times (for the Valjoux 72) by Breitling in the 60's, when there was a shortage of the V72's available. The movement isn't fitted to the case as yet; I am having my local watchsmith clean, lube, and regulate it. Garrett
  5. The movement is the Valjoux 7736 handwind. Finding one was an effort in itself. Garrett
  6. I've been looking at a few Rolex part sites (mostly that I've learned of from here), and I've seen several sets of hands offered for sale for the 6263. Can I get some opinions from the experts here about which ones are acceptable, and perhaps more importantly, which to avoid? I've looked at Yuki's, Jewelryandwatch.com, ebay of course.....the URL for classicwatchparts.com appears dead. Thanks in advance, Garrett
  7. I recently purchased 2 Montblanc (rep) frames from Aoobuy, and then took them to Costco for cheaps lenses (dark and clear). They are pretty good for the money. I like 'em. Garrett
  8. Freddy333, Thanks for the quick reply and advice. I read a number of your postings about these cases, so I know that you have dealt with these before. As to getting the work done, I would definetly send it off to someone who has the skill set to do it right, and I've been wanting to try out The Zigmeister's shop for awhile now. This sounds like the right project for that. Should be fun. Garrett
  9. I picked up an orginal Valjoux 7760 watch the other day; snagged it as a lucky break on the 'bay. I've really appreciated the knowledge here on RWG about building a franken Daytona, so I'd like to get your ideas about which case to order. The 7760 doesn't have the self-wind rotor of course, so I realize that I can use a slimmer case (or at least the lower profile caseback). Which model should I order from DW? The one I see on his eBay store is for the Valjoux 7750, but it does appear to be the thicker case. Are Dw's dials okay too, or do you recommend someone else? Whose crystal do you like? I've read the debates here about the bevel on the crystal as well as it's thickness, but even so I can't see if there's been any majority concensus. I realize that these are all questions that have been covered in other topics in the Rolex section, but even re-reading them I'm not sure I know the answer to queries above. Thanks, Garrett
  10. Your watch looks great. Can you tell us how you fit the genuine bezel to it? What steps or modiifications did you have to take? Thanks, Garrett
  11. I picked up a Valjoux 7760 watch (chronograph) for $130. It was made by Lorenz in about 1985 (an obscure Italian firm that was at one time quite prestigious). As you know, the 7760 is the manual wind version of the 7750, with a power reserve of about 48 hours (17 jewels). So, my question to the group: What rep would you recommend to me for a movement swap? This has the standard date at 3 o'clock configuration. Thanks, Garrett
  12. Does anyone have a recommendation for where to purchase a rep Breitling deployant clasp? I know several good sources for the straps of course, but not the actual clasp. (V2 SA) Thanks in advance, Garrett
  13. Take a look at Hulme Leather too. I have one of their bags for carry-on, and get comments on it frequently. http://www.jwhulmeco.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Category_Code=COLLECTIONS_LEATHER
  14. I'm interested in the Glashutte Evo Chronograph over at one of the cartel sites. One of the things I like best about reps is our ability to mod them as we like. What's your opinion about my getting drilled lugs on this model to facilitate easy switch-outs of straps/braclets? I'm interested in the groups take on the esthetics of drilled lugs as opposed to leaving it as it is. Thanks, Garrett
  15. Rolli, How has the plating held up over time and usage? I was thinking of a similar project myself, but wanted to use a titanium nitride base (pvd) followed by gold plating. Thanks for the info, Garrett
  16. Mine just arrived today. Ordered it from Joshua on Oct. 26, and it arrived on Nov. 3....not bad for the other side of the globe. I plan to send it off for service now (as a precaution) given what I know about the A7750 movement. This is really nicely made, and I am surprised by the quality of the bracelet; much better than I had expected. The bezel ratchet is good too. Thanks for your review Lani....good choice. Garrett
  17. Quick question regarding shaving/razors. I use a twin blade razor (Gillette Sensor), which has been discontinued for several years. However, Gillette still makes the twin blades, and they are easy to purchase. Currently the only new razors I can find have either 3 blades, 4 blades, or (and this seems a little crazy) 5 blades. The twin blade razors are more narrow, and make it much easier to shave the top of the lip and across curves on the face. I feel like I nick myself more easily and frequently with the triple and quadruple bladed razors. My question is, why have these many bladed razors taken over the market, or is there something I am doing wrong that makes me favor the twin blades? I shave in the shower while my beard is wet, and it makes it much easier to do so. Am I the last guy out there using twin blades? Thanks, Garrett
