  1. Gonna have to disagree with ya Flav! The Super Luminova that The Zigmeister uses (RC Tritec) is dead on to what Omega uses. Here is a comparison shot. On the left is my rep SMP which The Zigmeister re-lumed with C3, and on the right is my gen SMP: The luminous compounds that Ofrei sells are mislabeled, it is not Super Luminova. Jim
  2. Well, for me, I regulate mine to be accurate while on the wrist. My daily habits are fairly routine, so this is what I do: I start with a fully wound watch and sync it to the atomic clock first thing in the morning. I wear it all day long, and even go to sleep with it on. The next morning I check it against the atomic clock again and make regulation adjustments as needed. While I cannot say that my watches are to regulated to COSC standards, I can say that all of my mechanical watches gain no more than 1 second per day on my the wrist. Jim
  3. That is very interesting Rob. Both of my ETAs (2824 and 2836) make clicking sounds when being wound with the rotor, whether fully wound or not. I had posted about it HERE. The video is not working, but I went into great detail explaining what I was observing. Jim
  4. Oh boy..........
  5. I agree with you there. If it was blatantly obvious that the package had been opened, it should have been refused. The problem with my case was that it was delivered to my office. We have a receptionist that takes all incoming mail. So when the envelope came, she had no clue what was supposed to be in it, so she assumed it was a letter. By the time I was notified that it was here, the delivery guy was long gone. Here is a picture of the envelope. The little flap was folded over and scotch taped closed. From a quick change of hands, one cannot tell that it had been tampered with: Here is the manila folder that was inside of the outer envelope:
  6. I thought about that too. The only thing I can figure is that it has a tracking number. If the whole package was to disappear, then one could use the tracking number to find out the last known location that the package was. But if they were to rip into it and still deliver it, then that makes it much harder to figure out where the actual theft occurred.
  7. It will come USPS. You can actually take the EMS tracking number, and put that in the "track and confirm" field on the USPS website to track it from the US post office side: http://www.usps.com/shipping/trackandconfi...trackandconfirm
  8. Oh man, that really scares me....................
  9. You know, I feel the exact same way. I would rather have not seen it at all, or even received a letter from customs. If it had been seized, I really would not have any problem with that, as that was the risk I was taking. But to have some inconsiderate, self-centered, bottom dwelling, a**hole simpleton open someone else mail and steal their property, well, that just pisses me off. As for the dealer’s stance on it, I am actually talking to the dealer now. I am in no way expecting him to do anything about it, as I know it is not his fault. I just sent him an e-mail explaining what happened to see what his thoughts are on how to handle the situation. I’ll let you know what he says. Jim
  10. Had ordered a nice Tag Link Chrono on the 6th, got the e-mail that it had shipped, checked the EMS tracking and saw that it had posted in Malaysia on the 7th. Checked EMS again a couple of days later, and saw that it had arrived in the USA on the 9th! Holy crap that was fast. I thought to myself, this is too good to be true. Well, as it turns out, that was the case. Got the call from my receptionist today that I had a “letter” waiting for me. Curious as to why she did not say “package” I went to go pick it up. What I got was an empty envelope! The outer envelope had a little 3 inch slit in the top of it, obviously just big enough to get the watch out. The slit was then taped back up. When I opened it up the rest of the way, I found that there was a manila folder inside that had been torn open. No letter from customs or anything, so I don’t think it was seized. I can only assume that some thieving scum bag with sticky fingers snatched my Tag. Merry freaking Christmas slime ball! Hope you enjoy my watch. Ok, I’m done ranting now. Jim
  11. I'm with Pugwash and fitmic, 3.5 for me as well.
  12. HAHAHAHA--oh man, I thought I was the only person that did that!
  13. He sent me an order for as well. This is the price for SL: The price for a dial relume is typically $78. Hands are typically $34. (12 Superluminova color choices.) Other services are quoted individually. Paypal is preferred. The minimum shop charge is $65.
  14. Just got an e-mail back from Kent, and he says that he has no issues at all with woking on reps. He even sent me a couple of nice pics of 2 PAMs he did:
  15. I think this is a great idea. By the way, I have a watchmaker in Northern Virginia that works on reps. He has serviced 2 of mine so far and charges $125 for a complete overhaul. Turn around time is 10 days. If it has an ETA in it, he will work on it. Jim
  16. Na, nothing yet. I don't want to pester them with a bunch of e-mails. I will give it until tomorrow and then send another one.
  17. I had sent them an e-mail earlier this morning. I will let you know when I get a response. Jim
  18. Yeah, looks like he can do some pretty cool stuff. I found this one interesting:
  19. I am going to send them an e-mail and ask. I will let you know what they say. Jim
  20. Hello all, Just stumbled across this site and thought I would post it up. I know there are a lot of people in the US looking for places that can do AR coatings and re-lumes. Unfortunately, they are not currently doing AR coatings at the moment (quote from their site “We are currently looking for another lab to do our AR coatings. When we secure another vendor to do the quality work that we demand, we will be able to offer this service again”), but it might be worth it to keep an eye out on the site. Looks like they are in Arizona Here’s the link: http://www.everestwatchworks.com/services.html Jim
  21. HAHA--thats gotta look crazy! I only have a Philips 42 inch plasma with a USB port on the side, and for kicks and giggles I viewed the pics on it. And I thougt that was impressive.............. I'm with ya. Sometimes I wish I had never found this forum.
  22. I dont' mind at all This is trusty's SMP (OMG0004SW). Jim
  23. Welcome to the boards. I bought my yachty from Andrew (trustytime.com). I could not be happier with his level of customer service. I have only dealt with Andrew for all of my reps, so I can’t really comment about the other dealers. However, any of the dealers on this board offer spectacular service and quality replicas. I just tried Andrew’s site, and it seems to be up and running fine. Perhaps you tried to get into it when maintenance was being performed. I bought the Rolesium model with the nickel plated ETA 2836-2 (ROLYM003). I am very happy with the purchase. Unfortunately, you will not find a replica that is going to be guaranteed water resistant to a certain depth. The only way to ensure that would be to have a watchmaker seal and test the watch. As far as quality is concerned, the dealers here are very honest (with the exception of one or two, but I won’t name names). If they say it is solid stainless steel, then it is. If they say it has an ETA, then it does. The best bet is to pick your dealer, then send them an e-mail with any questions you may have before purchasing the watch. Good luck with your first purchase! Jim
  24. That’s a good question. I am not sure of the properties of Super luminova once it has cured, so I don’t know how durable it is. I wonder if you could mix the SL in with some clear epoxy, then slightly drill out the old pearl (just the lume, making a little crater), then fill the crater with the SL/epoxy mix.
  25. Apologies, I was just trying to show as much detail as possible. I'll work on some thumbnails. Jim
