  1. Just to update: The 80th celebrations went well and we returned to the homestead safe and sound. I noticed the watch on her wrist and it reminded me to claim it back - immediately! I went for the clasp to undo it and she put up a bit of a fight but my determination to reclaim my beloved (watch of course) won the day and it is now safely back in my collection. It was a close call but I think she will have forgotten all about it in a few days. BTW anyone got any bright ideas for a xmas present for a woman who is totally obsessed with NASA and all things space shuttle related? Apologies in advance for hijacking my own thread (is that possible?)

    Cheers,

  2. Hi all,

I am just about toset off for an 80th birthday celebration and I am going to wear my EE Daytona. That's all fine but my wife has been addicted to NASA TV whilst the shuttle mission was on and I have decided to let her wear my gen Speedy Pro. <_< Is this a mistake? Will I ever see it again?

PS She has already got her grubby mits on my beloved 1952 Rlx semi bubbleback.

  3. This thread reminds me of a time when I went for a lunch with my wife to a nice pub in the English countryside. We were happily enjoying our meal and drinks when a gentleman and his wife/girlfriend sat at a table across the room from us. I couldn't help noticing that the man was paying quite alot of attention to me which at first I found a little unsettling and I tried to (subtly) figure out why he was staring at me. Somehow I thought his eyes were directed at my wrist and I got a glimpse of his wrist whilst he was not looking. He was wearing a GMT master and I immediately realised he was a watch fan and that he could not take his eyes off my (rep) Explorer I 1016. Now I know that there is alot wrong with this rep (basic one ETA mvmt bought from Josh no mods) but at a distance it is nigh on impossible to call it out. I carried on with my meal and was talking with my wife but keeping an eye and ear open for the couple opposite. The man then started to tell his partner about what I was wearing and she then tried to subtly glimpse my wrist. Of course I realised what was happening and I played a little game with them and moved the watch out of view and then when they clearly were not looking I would put my hand up to my face or something to tempt them into staring again. It was great fun and they never said a thing and neither did I.

The great thing about the vintage reps (not just that they are nicer watches! ;) ) but alot of people, even watch fans do not realise that you can get fakes of them, indeed I remember the first good fake I ever saw was a steel and gold Daytona which I studied closely and worked the stopwatch etc and I (at the time) did not know such things existed and I had worked in a vintage watch shop (off and on) for 2 years!

  4. Thankyou thankyou thankyou Admin, I have been reading references to hockey pucks for some time now but had not read the original thread. That fliplockknuckle, sorry buckle is a classic and I am so pleased to have finally got to the bottom of it. Absolutely hilarious, not only his posts but the responses, especially docblackrock's eager anticipation with the smilie. Sorry, have to go now, I want to read more fliplock threads.......

  5. You have fired up my love of the Daytona again and I have just taken off my 1665 and put my EE on. I'm looking at it and am beginning to hanker after a silver dial with black subs (mine is black with silver subs) and so I have to say that if what you are proposing was produced I don't think I could resist one! Oh hell I'm in trouble again......will it ever end??? Bye bye $$$$

  6. Reading the two previous replies, that to me make complete sense, one would have to condemn him for trying to scam people (if that is the case). Which opens up another issue, could, or should a person be reprimanded by the bay for a scam such as this? I suspect they would not want to get involved in the intricacies of parts gen or aftermarket etc etc but it would be mighty interesting to see which way they fall, would they remove the ad or would they let it stay as the person at no time makes any claim that the watch is gen? Its probably a question for lawyers and also ebays relationship with Rolex. I honestly do not know what Rolex think of Ebay and vice versa.

  7. Just for arguments sake, what if all that he says is true (gen parts etc), why should there be a problem? After all alot of people would like to own a good modded sub and as long as they are aware from the beginning that the watch is not a gen then what's wrong with that? Lets not forget that many esteemed members here sell their modded pieces to fellow members and everyone admires their work and says how lucky the buyer is to have snapped up such a beauty? So what's the difference here? Of course if the man is lying then that is a different kettle of fish, but what if he is not?

    Food for thought.

  8. Thanks for the informative reply. So, you put a 7750 in a (DW V72?) case with asymetric pushers! Very interesting. How did you get the pushers to work? I have an EE Daytona with asymetric pushers. Correct me if I'm wrong but it sounds like a Swiss 7750 could be put in without the rotor and a new caseback screwed on then I would have a hand wound Daytona with fully functional chronos and a Swiss movement. Of course I am completely incapable of performing such miracles but it would be nice to know if this were possible in theory.

  9. Remarkable. If you're going to make me sick with envy why not go the whole hog, what movements are inside these gems? Case and pusher details etc etc. Excuse me I have to go now, I feel quite ill! Fantastic pieces D, enjoy and wear well. And just for the record they are the exact three I would choose, feel like selling one ;)

  10. Hi Corgi,

I wondered that and I remember reading somewhere that they have been made by some of the Swiss companies by special order only and if I remember rightly a Blancpain erotic sold for $150,000!!

If anyone has any more info it would be interesting.

  11. Great to see the watch has arrived. It is far far better that it is worn and enjoyed than sitting in my bedside watch box unused. I was actually going to make it part of the quiz that the winner donate some money to RWG but I decided not to put that request in as I felt that it was not my place to do so. I am very pleased to see that Giorgio took it upon himself to make that gesture and I wish him well with his job hunting. I am very happy that the watch is being enjoyed (by his Mum :o ) and hope she gets much satisfaction and amusement from it.

    All the best,

  12. Hi All,

I rarely visit this part of the Forum so hello to all Omega fans. I have a gen Speedmaster Pro and find the bracelet a little tight so I would like to put another link in it. I have spare links and strange little pins of varying sizes and I am puzzled as to how I go about putting a link in the bracelet. I have no specialist tools, is this job best left to a watchmaker?

    Thanks for any help.
