  1. Somebody's gonna be wearing this one next week.....and his name starts with a "B".

Nice watch! and the new owner is very lucky! these subs are one of the best vintage subs simple clean looks a real "tool" watch! i dont know why many refer to the no crown subs as the bond watch, the 5512/3 were also featured in the bond movies "live and let die" ohmss, the man with the golden gun. even a date sub!

  2. 5517 Today

Great 5517 ! i ordered a rep 5517 from a well known dealer and i was disapointed they shipped the watch from a different factory and was not even close to there photo, bad case cheap crystal!uneven lugs. i hope i can find one soon and have a super watch like yours!

  3. Im wearing this today after vintaging the bezel insert nothing extreme! just to take off that factory black colour! it has given the insert a slight blue tint, the yuki insert i faded went to a green tint! in fact i have owned this watch for over 5 years and that insert never faded and still looked as new, even though in cyprus we have sun almost all year round!

this is a real frankenstine watch! backcase is marked 5512 the case is marked 1665 home made 6mm crystal cut similar to the tropic 19 with homemade retaining ring, and a comex "thicker" bezel fitted! the strap does not have a divers extension bought that from a car boot sale! oh and it has a 2873 slow beat eta ! this is my beater! could do with a relume though!

  4. Doing a quick and dirty comparison it does look like the watcheden is an 8mm crown although it looks too thin.

Yes i Agree it does look thin! here is a couple of quick shots of my bond 6538!post-27094-127194804544_thumb.jpgpost-27094-127194823067_thumb.jpg

I think the problem is the rep makers cant find a gen to work from as it is rare, i asked trusty last year if he could ask the factory to replicate this watch and sent him photos of a gen 6538 he replied we dont have a gen to do a replication and this is why it hasent been done but this version is a step in the right direction but they need to correct the mistakes, i dont know why they dont get the crowns right they mostly make the crown too big but this time to thin!

  5. One other thought, aeromatic, is swapping to a cyclops plastic crystal- wonder if a T-116 will work? Maybe you just stick with the no cyclops look...

    Hi alligoat

yes this could be a problem i have my plastic crystals made by member george loiz who is a watchmaker! i found that gen crystal wont fit in factory reps without having a specialy built glass retainer, i would prefer to have a cyclop what about fixing a cyclops to a homemade crystal? the saphire crystals are glued on the top of the glass , we will have to see the diameter of the t-116 until i get the watch first on the bench i cant be sure, they have made the watch 38mm diam like the gen so im hoping it will work!

  6. Well idlereplicas have now the new Bond watch in at 248usd free shipping , they also have the 3-6-9 explorer type dial actually my interest in these watches is for a low budget build, as i have said before i want to use the case to build a 6542 no crown guard gmt! using fxrAndys supplied 2893-2 movement i know that this watch cant be compared to my yuki 6538 franken but im looking to build a "homage" to the 6542 gmt because i will be using a modern fast beat movement i dont need the case to be as per gen but as close as you can go with a factory rep in this price range, im hoping i will be able to shoehorn a bakelite pepsi bezel insert, and im tryin to find a refinished white gmt dial this will be a everyday watch but with a vintage look! post-27094-127185786824_thumb.jpg

  7. hi redwatch you will need an adaptor to hold the movement in the right position for the stem alignment yuki emailed me that they are working on one for there yuki cases and i read somewhere here a member is also making them for yuki cases too a watchmaker could do this for you

check out member stilty post movement adaptors for yuki cases!

  8. With a Gen Case set, or a case set built to accept gen parts, what exactly will be the issue for the stem alignment? Is the 1030 thicker or thinner than the ETA movement? Is there any way to modify the case to accept the ETA movement? Or any way to modify the Cannon Pinion etc to work? If any of the "super" modders could chime in on this, I would really appreciate it!

  9. Freddy do you know if there was ever a 6542 case made for an ETA movement? As for the white dial thing, I agree, but I am not sure I really care too much about that. However, the cost of the dial may prohibit me from going forward with it :D It may have to be a traditional black dialed one.

im thinking of using a 6536 rep case eta and get a white gmt dial and with fxrandys 2893 movement will be great but the backcase will be hard is this engraved? or stampped? this is perfect for the 2893 movement!

  10. I used to be a child in the 70s but think i am managing to keep it going in to the present as well.

thats comes from not growing up i suffer from that too! as the saying goes you dont stop playing because you get old, you get old because you stop playing!!! this is very true!!!

  11. Really happy with the quality of this bracelet. I was able to fit 2mm springbars in it. I know others have had trouble with this. I had to expand the endlinks a little to fit the case properly, but it looks good now.

i bought mine from yuki the spring loaded type for my 6538 brevet bond watch but i have had problems with the endlinks they sat too low between the lugs i opened them a bit but they still dont look right and the springpins are too thin and dont fill the lugholes fully, i have been unable to remove them to replace them with the thicker rolex springpins

  12. Hi folks,

So after doing a little research and poking around, I think I would like to take on the task of building a franken 6542 GMT Master Pan AM. Here's a pic:

I was really intrigued by this watch, and thought to myself there was no way I was going to find the parts for this. I am thinking of using the ETA 2893-2 engine that I bought from FxrAndy as it would be the correct hand stack and a nice reliable movement. Of course, I am not sure if it will fit into any of the available case sets for a 6542.

Surprisingly, I happened to find a dial, and wanted some experts opinions on it. Please let me know what you think of this dial:

Super dial i want to buy one too!

  13. just found the site! www.fiftyfathoms.net/rolex/6542 ! sorry im unabe to use the link!

Well looks like we got two posts going with the pan-am gmt this will be a superb watch! and this is what i want to put my fxrAndy 2893-2 movement in

  14. My current aftermarket insert (shown on my Phase 1 watch at right in the 1st pic) also has raised numbers, but the placement of the dots is off & it lacks the flat-top 4 of the gen & new insert.

The insert NDT is selling was 1st available through Andy & I placed an order over a month ago (in tandem with a gen insert that arrived in a totally unusable state (in many broken pieces & some powder), which was returned to the seller). Unfortunately, my order fell through some cracks, but is supposedly now en route to me. I can provide more details once I have it in-hand. However, I do know that these inserts are made to fit the gen 6542 bezel, so they should fit any aftermarket bezel that is made to the gen spec. I have a gen bezel, so fitment is not a problem, but you should check with the seller if you are trying to fit this (or any other aftermarket insert) into an aftermarket bezel

Thanks freddy333 for the info! i will try and get the insert and bezel from the same seller to be sure!
