ETA, the 3135 is nothing but a modded clone of the ETA, it is mechanicaly no different it just has parts that fall off.
I think they will make a better more reliable version may cost even more, but with ETA limiting supply they have so many
movements out there i dont think even some sellers know what quality they are selling i have had some gen etas give me problems and some asian 21j have been so reliable it must be the way they are put together but as you say the etas are easy to service i think the clones are being sold too pricy and if parts fall off ,the eta is the way to go or an asian
my self i prefer the movement to work like the gen i mean if its a vintage then to have a slow beat and slow date change if it a modern rep then have a fast beat smooth sweep as you said no one looks at the movement i have been replacing on vintage reps some of my 2836-2 s with used older gen eta that have the slow beat as they work close to the gen movements of the time.

Just to clarify, this is not the new offering but something else you had already, right?
You are correct! joshs new offering is similar to trustys newer series 1665 comex and seadwellers they are great cases but have a dummy helium escape vave and some have had cracked crystal issues out of 5 watches 4 have had this problem and we had to replace the crystals to make the watches water resistant this was on the superdome cases. josh has a better bezel insert and pearl .and the great 2846 eta.

This is my out of the box red sub! again not a perfect rep!
the thing that i wish is they would tone down this yellow colour its too bright i would prefer a pastel white with a creamy tint!
Just for fun i adjusted the colour slightly for the next photos
i was not pleased when i recieved this watch i ordered a white background date wheel
and the description said it was the best magnification cyclope! i dident find the date mag correct and as a result put this watch in a drawer and never wore it! but now i have started to wear it despite its flaws and its a perfect time keeper too!

What do you guys think of this one ??
We are taking things too seriously, ok i love to have an exact rep of the gen in every way but there are some nice vintage styled reps that are not exact replicas of the gens, but its what i call a "homage watch" i have some in my collection along with my few frakens and we should like them too especially the under 200usd i would wear this watch, most people that i have day to day contact with are aware of rolexes but know nothing about vintage rolexes ,i wear my watch for myself and not for others, so for me i find that vintage reps have very little attention from the public, i wear my 6538 bond spec franken ,a watch that was expensive to build and a watch i have wanted since i was 10 years old watching jb movies only to get remarks like why do you have that terrible looking undersized nylon strap, watch style is like your fashion wardrobe taste, it means everything to you ,it means nothing to someone else, so wear your gen, franken, and your humble out of the box vintage style rep and enjoy it!!! ok this watch has flaws as a vintage rep,but i like it!!!!

Im looking for an omega seamaster gmt swiss version to fit a 2893-2 movement ,which will be the only modding that i want to do , which sites offer the closest looking reps?
-
Almost sounds like the rotor is loose or has maybe even fallen off. Five minute job to remove the case back have a look.
Got to be a loose rotor, loose movement, loose case clamp. Probably not a big thing.
i think you are right i have had this happen a couple of times even with etas the rotor came off i put it back on no problem
-
Thanks but i was just lucky with those photos, where is the GMT from
I got it a couple of years ago from trusty it looks better in the flesh, and i do like the jubilee bracelet specially in our hot summers (remember) with its air vents!its running a modern 2836-2 but runs great i have left it as it came!

Anything's possible. ETA used to have a factory over in China, maybe around the Hong Kong area. These watch movements are still available, they're just not as readily available as they once were with ETA's new policies of limiting sales to non-ETA companies.
I think its possible that they are (New)old stock and thats why they say they are reconditioned etas..can see them ripping them out of swatches.

I don't think the PT and the Josh 1680 are the same. The Josh 1680 crown position is low, just like their 1665, while PT's seem like it is in the proper position...more centered. I think I'll hold out for the PT version...
very similar to the trusty 1665 case reps but they dont have the 2846 eta movement, with my friend we bought 5 of these watches and all crystals except one had a crack along the base we had to make new crystals and install them with a homemade crystal retaining ring!

Well, according to the description, it's actually 'doom plexi plastic'.
It looks like they have one that is a dome and another that is flat (top hat) but they use the same discription for both!
they overlooked it iv seen this on some sites before !
-
I also see that the insert is realy nice placed inside the bezel..and gives a gen feeling to the bezel/insert construction. Also the sells are like gen and the spring bars are all the way in the case just like the gen! Well done!
Yes i agree with you there! well said Bravo!!!1!
-
Hmmm, that does look good, case construction is more like gen with the seal in the case back, is the crown a bit big?
Biggest annoyance for me is the yellow dial print
Will a yuki dial fit i mean diameter wise?

The red sub looks great i love these old 2846 movements they also look the part for me no need to upgrade to the gen vintage subs should have slow beat movement so this is a plus, and much better than the gold ones,i like it! and the price! are well mabe in a month or two i may buy one but got to finish a couple of projects first!
with this economic crisis we all could do with a rep out of the box we can just wear without breaking our bank! under 200usd
after my 2500usd franken sounds great but first i have to do a tudor sub and an omega gmt!

Are there any Skyracer reps? cant find any at all!

I think you're right there, new releases of some of the classics should certainly go down well
I think the recent Rolex releases have been aimed purely at the 'bling bling crowd', rather than true 'watch enthusiasts', but as with everything with the R Word on the dial, I'm sure they will sell
Thanks teejay!
Well said there and true! and i think that watch enthusiasts that build frankens of vintage watches like the vintage sub should be praised and not classed as mere fakes but a homage to the classic/vintage watch. prices of vintage rolexes have gone through the roof and are beyond many pockets with the result that watches end up
with collectors who dont really care for the watches but see it as an investment(inflated value) i mean a vintage rolex selling for 100,000 usd the "tool watch" has lost the message here!
-
+2 As Gorillladame said, they just look nasty... Something of an irony that the rep manufacturers had the Ceramic Noir Sub out way before Rolex, now the gens are copying the 'copies'
I would not buy a gen oversized case ,if i liked these fat cases i would stick with the rep and save money im no expert but i cant tell the difference! ok rolex should make new upgrades but they should realize that a large community love the vintage/classic rolexes and they should re-introduce new vintage style watches to pay homage to there past models that have gained legendary status! they should relaunch watches like the 6538,5512 many watch makers are making classic vintage style watches and rolex should also do this and open up a new market! not everyone will like there new boxy watches!
-
Not sure about anyone else but with Baselworld starting tomorrow morning I'm starting to get a touch excitable about whats coming next from our favourite gen manufacturer!
I'd have to take a punt on the black ss sub going ceramic (its available from our dealers already but at last it might not be a fantasy watch!) A jubilee bracelet on the DJ II would be a good move and I'd personally be crying with excitement if they Coke/Pepsi the GMT IIc!!!
Apologies if this lacks relevance at present but it all filters down to us eventually!
Anyone else got any thoughts or wishes??
Regards
P
They should make a smaller version of the deepsea seadweller say upto 41mm max or re-introduce an updated seadweller some thing that fits our wrist sizes better!

Brings a whole new meaning to "GOING GREEN" im a vintage rolyman but i like it mabe in full stainless steel for me!
-
That shot looks familiar! and the shirt sleave and lighter! Lol! thats exactly what i mean!!!!

Thanks Cats (and aeromatic)
(that's what I was fearing for; cloned ETA movements but at least it rules out the Asia 21J)
I got this from Andrew, I heard he was a reputable dealer, so I hope he kept his word.
I think I need to take this to a watch repair center. Do you recommend me doing that or is there a member here that provides the same service?
I don't have a case opening tool I'm afraid. :-(
I'll take pics of the movement and have it calibrated.
Andrews always shipped me watches with movements as described no problems!
Take your watch to any good repair shop! except rolex authorised dealer/service centres(smile)! good luck!

hey guys... I just got my Explorer I from trustywatchguy in the mail.
Everything looks good but oddly the rolex hologram sticker isn't present... or to be seen anywhere.
Anyway... I'm wondering if there is a way to check if the watch is a 21J asia or ETA... I ordered the "swiss" eta, version...
Oh, I mean check without opening...
I'm a complete noob at this... but I compared the tick sounds with a gen Omega seamaster pro 300m, and the speed of the ticks matches the rep Explorer I.
Does this mean it's 28,800 bph? aka ETA? I heard Asia 21J has a lower bph.
thanks
Hi there it may be the asian eta this is 28,800 bph but the vintage rolexes suite better the lower beat i replace my 5512 trustytime swiss eta 28,800 with a slower beat old 1970s 2783 eta to be closer to the gen beat!
ETA 2836-2 or Asian 3135, which the best one ?

what do you think about the eta based customised movements? they are a single bridge with decoration not authentic looking
but using gen etas i think there are one or two selling them but a bit pricy they should be more reliable has anyone bought one of these? see on ETA911 site
