I was in NYC for a conference this weekend and went to Tourneau TimeMachine with one purpose in mind - to try on the B&R 92-01 and determine if 46mmx46mm is too big for my wrist. I did try on the watch and loved it. Tourneau is great for that - you get to see a lot of watches up close and personal, but the help in there is hit or miss. You either get the snooty type behind the counter who doesn't want to talk to you about the watches, or the young, clueless type who can tell you how many jewels the movement has and nothing else. I had a GREAT experience at Joseph Edwards (44th and Madison) next to Nat Sherman. The guy is having to move his store after 25 years because the building owners rented the bottom three floors to a single tenant! So everything was 25% off! I was trying to talk my buddy into buying the Ulysse Nardin 1846 Maxi Marine Chronometer. At 25% off, it was going to come in under $45 hundge. Anyway the guy we were dealing with was the opposite of what you get a Tourneau. He showed us all the watches and compared the movements and told us about his visits to the factory. Then he broke out some for the high end UN watches so that we could appreciate the amazing complications that UN makes. The guy truly loved watches and he was just glad to talk to some people who knew some basics and who weren't just looking to buy another sub. So my buddy was torn because he had his eye on a Black Seal but he could't afford both. So, being the nice guy that i am, I clued him in on the whole replica deal. Let's face it, if you want to blow 45 hundge on a genuine watch, a Black Seal is not the way to go. Not that Panerai is the Fossil of the Swiss Watch industry, but it is more of a fashion piece than anything particuarly unique in terms of movement and complications. So he's going to buy a 99% Black Seal with the swan neck ETA for $350 and that frees him up to go for something truly special with lasting value. Anyway, finding the right person to deal with in NYC makes all the difference. Of the 6 Tourneaus in NYC, I haven't found anyone on a par with the people in the smaller shops. Sure is fun looking around though. YH :cc_jockey:

Truly an awesome sight. Glad they Lumed the dial and hands the same. Wear that one outside your flight suit, pop down your polarized visor, pull some G's, and feel the manliness!!! Don't fall in the water, though, that thing will drag you under! Based upon measurements from the photos, comparing the known case width (46mm) to the lugh width, I calculate a lug width of 24mm. SO I work in a large multispecialty clinic that people fly to from all over the world for their care. Here are a few watch anecdotes from my time here: We did a heart transplant on a patient from the middle east. The patient waited inhospital for a month or so on inotropes prior to getting a match, so he got to know a lot of the nurses and MDs. After the surgery, things went well. Upon discharge, the patient gifted all the nurses and some of the docs who had cared for him during his hospitalization with a Fortis Fleiger Chronograph (34mm for the ladies, 40mm for the gents). Over 50 watches! I cardioverted a guy last week who came from California for management of his atrial fibrillation. I noticed his watch and asked him about it just before the procedure. "Ain't that purdy?" he said when I noted out loud that that sure was a beautiful A. Lange & Sohne LangeMatik Perpetual he was wearing. He said he saw it in Tourneau in Vegas one time and he liked it so much he bought it on the spot. His wife was mad because the Pateks she had given him over the years just sat in a drawer. The Platinum/Black LangeMatik Perpetual was his daily beater. Painful... Gotta run. Maybe more later! YH :cc_jockey:

I think you can reasonably strap a Navitimer or a B&R Instrument on over your flightsuit, but that spindlyguy in the t-shirt with the PAM over the sleeve just looks like a chump asking to get mugged. Gives off a strong "97-pound weakling" aura. Good luck with that.

Just a slap on the back for The Zigmeister - he is an artiste! He did a fantastic job on my B&R01-92. The ting comes with el cheapo lume on the numbers and indices but not on the hands. That makes the hands stark white and the numbers greenish lume - heinous. SO The Zigmeister lumed the hands and indices with C1 and now it looks great in the daylight and shines bright in the dark!!! I added a TimeFactors NATO strap and voila! Off to the wild blue yonder with my new flight watch! Thank you The Zigmeister!!! Great work!!!! Highly recommended!!! Forgive the weak photos - I'm still getting the kinks worked out. Lume shot to follow. YH

Great Photos The Zigmeister! That B&R Instrument looks like it is getting a beautiful relume right there in the center of your bench under the glass cover!!!! I bet the hands and numbers are going to turn out bright white with that C1 and the watch is going to go back onto a 20mm black NATO strap from TimeFactors UK. Just a hunch... Guys - the testosterone is getting too thick in this thread with the wall of sound hardware. I have the Massive Wall of Sound Yamaha system with the refrigerator sized Polk Audio speakers and the Mission 700 monitors in my basement, but I rarely blast them anymore due to the 8 month old baby in the crib upstairs. Please allow me to highly recommend the Tivioli Audio Music System. The sound is unbelievable and the system itself has a retro look with a wooden cabinet that is like a piece of furniture. There are two 3.5 inch front firing drivers and a 5inch downfiring sub (that's -woofer not -mariner) that make the sound really full. Plays CDs and MP3 CDs, has RDS, and can amplify your ipod or whatever player. Just my two cents. Sweet! And all for a paltry six hundge. YH

The dots are for the countdown sequence for the start of a regatta. ISAF rules stipulate a variety of starting sequences with starting guns at various intervals, most commonly: 10 minutes to start 5 minutes to start 1 minute to start start. On a real starting watch, the timer can be started at the 10 minute gun and the "holes" you see turn from blue to red at the above mentioned intervals. So you can quickly glance down and see where you are along the starting sequence. This seems completely stupid if you are only going to have one start, but it becomes very important if 5 classes will start at intervals after the 10 minute gun. If your class is starting third, you might have this sequence: 10 minute 5 minute 1 minute start 1 start 2 start 3 start 4 That's a lot of guns and it gets confusing when you are all sailing at close quarters on a short starting line in heavy wind. So if you were starting third heat, you would start your watch timer on the 5 minute gun and plan to be on the starting line under full sail as the 4th blue dot turns red. You get the idea. The intensity of a crowded starting area makes the blue/red dots the easiest way to get the information at a glance with a mechanical watch. Awesome. YellowHat

Amazing! I just bought the 39mmx39mm B&R and now I'll need to buy the 46mm B&R too! Hopefully the Orange/Black will actually come to fruition. My 39mm has stark white (no lume) hands but the 3.6.9,12 and the hour indices are mild yellowish lume - a horrible mismatch - so I sent it to The Zigmeister to get the the hands, numbers and indices all lumed with C1!!! It is going to be sweet! SO the big question will be the quality of the lume on the 46mm. Hopefully the hands will be matched to the face - if not, another international money order made out to The Zigmeister! YH

Guys - I would love to hear your opinions on the water resistance topic from a practical perspective. I have read all the posts about the differences between 3, 5, 10, and 20 ATM, and the concept that one can achieve 50 or 100m of focal point pressure on a crystal-bezel interface in the shallow end of the pool, and all the rest. All of that makes one think that to be on the safe side, you shouldn't even wear your reps on a humid day... So here's a more practical question: What's the most extreme water exposure your watch(s) were exposed to and survived without a leak? a) high humidity day direct hit, raindrop from 20,000 c) shaving cream rinse off d) shower e) washing the baby f) washing the mommy... g) swimming h) diving board/deep end of the pool i) cliff diving j) skin diving (30m) k) Thunderball l) scuba diving (100m) m) oil platform construction (200m) n) Offloading the Red October in the Laurentian Abyssmal o) Bathysphere (sticking your hand out the porthole at 1000m) p) The Abyss Seriously. How 'bout it.

This just in from the BR01 Instrument Forum on the Bell & Ross website: Moderator: "it comes...before the end of the month!.... we are many waiting for this "small" BR01 (BR03 case diameter is 42 mm) : 4 models all with black dials: 1 black case chrono + 1 steel case chrono + 1 black case HMS + 1 steel case HMS" So the smaller Instrument will have a 42mm case. Price not yet known. very enticing... I might need to buy that...

You gotta love the Ventura V-Tec Alpha. Better than the Delta and others in the Ventura line, the Alpha is a solid thing of beauty. You can get it in the $950 range with the leather band. Pricey for a digital... Do these ever get repped?

Amazing but true! the Admin on the B&R website forum is saying that B&R is about to announce a new, smaller B&R Instrument!!!! The 47mm will keep the designation 01-92. The new watch will be designated BR03-92, and be smaller - in the range of 39-41mm. Is there a precedent for the gen manufacturer to copy the replica like this? I just ordered my BR01-92 from Josh today!

Hi all. I've been reading quite a bit on this forum. Came very close to jumping in on the IWC group buy last week, but suddenly other expenses arose and ate my discretionary fund. I have posted a few questions here and there and people have been great about responding. Thanks for that. Looking forward to collecting some reps. I have a few Gens as well (Fortis Fleiger Automatic, Meistersinger 1Z Jaaro), and an Invicta 8926 beater.
