  1. The white one downplays inner bezel depth problem that is more visible on the other dials. Plus, the white dial makes the watch look even larger than the black (the continuity between the inner bezel and the dial has that effect). I went for white on mine (in SS)
  2. I just realized that I overlooked the "30 seconds each" at the top of the post...whoops! Anyway, the fact that they all glow that brightly is pretty impressive! Can't wait to see it in the flesh!
  3. TWP, looking great! Wonder if one might be mine, perhaps? Also, is there any reason why the 111 dial in the bottom of the pic appears much brighter than the others? It might just be the coloring that's throwing me off here, but I was just curious.
  4. I apologize for not making the complete and utter disgust that I have for watch scammers completely transparent. I should also mention that I am never one to try and fool people into thinking a rep is a gen. That said, I have never been questioned by anyone about the authenticity of any watches that I might own or wear, which probably has something to do with the nature of the Gens that I own. My motivation here was nothing more than playing a prank on a deserving close friend who pulled a formidable stunt on me last weekend. Without going into nitty gritty details, my intent was neither to scam him into buying, or believing that I own a genuine DD. Affording a gen is not a problem, however, I am not going to purchase a genuine DD for the ridiculous purpose of pranking a friend. Not to mention the fact that I wouldn't be the "owner" in this prank. That said, thanks for confirming my strong suspicion that the weight of a rep DD wouldn't be anywhere close to a gen. I haven't handled a rep or a gen, so I do not know how heavy one is in comparison to the other, or how much gold the gen actually contains (and subsequently, how much it weighs). Although this prank would have been quite amusing, without the piece being remotely believable to an above-average (knowledge) rolex owner, it will fall apart and backfire. Oh well...the brainstorm shall continue! Thanks for the help!
  5. So...I want to do something that I normally wouldn't condone doing...I want to play a joke on a friend by convincing him that a YG daydate is a gen. That said, my friend does have a DJ, and does know a decent amount about rolexes in general...that said, he wouldn't be able to pick out 90% of the flaws and differences between the reps and gens that people here can. What he can pick out are things like sharp edges and generally rough finishing (links that don't move smoothly, etc) and the big thing about anything gold or PT....weight. I think that even if the thing had razor blades on the sides of each link, if it weighed alot, he'd be convinced. I am looking at a Silix DD, does anyone have any experience with his or any other YG DDs for that matter, and have any means of comparing the weight of a rep to a gen? Any help is greatly appreciated...this friend badly deserves a prank, and I don't want the joke to backfire on me
  6. By-Tor, credit goes to you for inspiring me to get the Seamaster GMT in the first place (mine is blue, however) *EDIT* Your guide to top Omega reps *EDIT*. I really put mine through hell and back over the past year, and amazingly, the mineral crystal on mine hasn't received a single blemish. It really is a great workhorse. I should also mention that mine only gains 8 seconds a day. Pretty great for the price. I second a move for this as a sticky, and an expansion to a top-20 list
  7. RIP...he was an amazing driver...he and Burns were among my favorite 5 modern-era rally drivers, very sad to see this.
  8. Awesome Post! I can personally vouch for the Railmaster XXL...get it off that god-awful plastic strap, put on your 24mm strap of choice (I think it's even more versatile than PAMs in that respect), and rock out with an awesome rep! However...one of the best beaters was mentioned, but didn't get photo love, and that is the Omega Seamaster GMT. Although the clasp sucks (mine completely fell off after only wearing it 5 times), the actual watch is awesome. I put it on a Squinky oyster bracelet with straight end links, and it is now my beater of choice whenever I need to take a trip to Hell and back...
  9. IWC 3717 w/packaged black and brown straps. Awesome rep, proven quality, timeless piece. Doesn't need to be worn fearing the loss of screws. Can't go wrong. That said, the cousteau diver wouldn't be a bad option either, but given some of the work needed to get it really high quality, I'd prefer to see the 3717. Whatever it is, with a few exceptions, I would be interested.
  10. Miss barrett, Am I correct in assuming that you gave it a whack with some Scotch brite? I must say that non-polished surfaces are so difficult to return to their original state. This frustrates me the most on bead-blasted watches. It is one of my favorite finishes, bar none, but when it's scratched...I am totally helpless. Just venting on that one. Anyway, since I am also unfamiliar with the exact manner in which it is finished, let alone the properties of the Ti that they use in it, the typical rules of Ti cleaning might not apply. You could also just send it to vacuum or the like and have the whole case refinished. The $60 or so that it would cost is worth it when you consider the cost of replacing your 177
  11. Agreed. Cape cods rule. You can really take out pretty solid scratches/dings that you'd otherwise be going insane over. On the flip side, remember how that kind of power can affect anything other than SS. If you're doing just SS though, keep on enjoying them!
  12. I have a TWP'd 112H that is currently under construction; I will probably have it in 2 weeks or so, and will post my thoughts on it when it comes. Those that have ordered other TWP'd PAMs seem to be quite happy, and I am sure that I will soon be another member of that crowd!
  13. Oh...you like destruction, do you? Wish I had pics of the .44 magnum my friend used on a canal st. PAM87 (saying it's an 87 is being too kind..this POS didn't resemble an 87 in any way, it's just the closest PAM diver that it resembled) Also gotta dig up the video of PAM210 vs. hammer+lighter fluid. Unfortunately, I was not responsible for that one either. Disclaimer: Kids, if you read this, and subsequently think that this would be wise to recreate...do it. If you're stupid enough to contemplate doing any of the aforementioned acts or any variations thereof, then you deserve any bodily harm incurred.
  14. Nah, that IS the good thing!
  15. Tasty 111!
  16. Funny, My UPO turned the same color after I put it in the fireplace in frustration! Then there was the time I did this... I swear, I really don't have a temper!
  17. In a world where we are bombarded with tales of a grim future, this story is a morsel of sweet optimism and positivity. Couldn't be happier to hear this, my friend!
  18. Someone stole my genuine Breitling Navitimer World w/Bracelet (blue face) out of my office in April '07. Filed a police report (LOL) including Serial #s, and reported the serials to BUSA and my AD. It was pretty upsetting, especially since it was only 4 months old. Thankfully it was insured, however, the feeling of violation you have after you've been robbed cannot be magically forgotten, no matter how much money you get in return. The big kicker of the story is that I had my Zeno w/MF strap sitting right next to the Navi. The Zeno, to an average Joe, looks plenty expensive; at least expensive-looking enough to make it worth grabbing while stealing my Navi (if there was a $10 dollar bill under the navi, it would be worth grabbing it, let alone the Zeno, no?). The Zeno sat untouched in the drawer. Go figure. If only it had happened the other way around. Given that both were in a locked drawer, and the thief took only one, it seemed quite premeditated by the thief's part. I hope the Serial # turns up and the scumbag gets caught for it. Ironically, a very good friend of mine had a Breitling Blackbird ('03) stolen after a well-known member of the racing club he belonged to offered to help him get service for it. The thief took the watch, and disappeared off the surface of the earth. Considering the cost of club racing, and how established the thief was in the aforementioned club, it's pretty ridiculous that he would give the entire world up, and disappear under a rock for a watch. If he wanted yet another watch so badly and couldn't afford it, he could've sold his car and bought one that ran in a lower class. Some people really need to be taken care of by evolution. As a PS, my friend hadn't insured the watch. Glad he learned the lesson on the Breitling instead of the JD GS Email that he just got!
  19. I wouldn't be so confident about that.
  20. Looks like I'm the only one around here who thinks it's cool. Then again, I like the SAR and the PRS-2. At least I'm consistent in my taste for mil-watches.
  21. Awesome review, The Zigmeister! Now I feel that much better about my Breitling 6.75 w/seconds@3. This definitely makes things look good for future reps (cough ROO cough)
  22. I had a feeling that one was going to be a bit too easy. Good job! Group shot!
  23. Alright guys, the game is back on. This one belongs to a very good friend of mine. Had to do a bit of MS Paint wizardry to remove some details that would make it too obvious. Alright, time to put up your guesses!
  24. Thanks for the kind words, and I wholeheartedly agree with your sentiments. As a manufacture, I feel that JLC is truly beyond reproach. Not only are their own timepieces entirely in-house, they also supply movements to the heaviest hitters in the industry (the big three, for starters). For example, the movement in my VC is actually JLC's Caliber 928. And as far as the price thing goes...you are also correct on that front. The MSRP on the JLC is 16,750. The MSRP on a PP 5054RG is 29,850, and the MSRP on a VC Toledo Cal/Moon is 25,900. Like you said, aside from the benefit of having the PP/VC name on the watch (JLC doesn't exactly have foodstamp respect, however), I really see no perceivable difference in finish, quality, etc...actually, when it comes to reliability, I'd put my money on the JLC, considering that my VC has had to go back to the factory twice for warranty repairs. All in all, JLC is one of the most horologically prominent and legit (the degree of manufacture) brands out there, and all things considered, does offer one of the greatest high-end watch values around.
  25. Thanks!
