  1. Thanks r11co. I know there was a considerable pent up demand and it's been a while now. I really thought lots of members would have them by now. Anyway when you do get it, I'd love to read a review.
  2. I'm looking to get the new replica rubber strap for the 45mm Planet Ocean. I saw it come out a couple of weeks ago from Silix but have yet to see anyone post pictures or a review. I'm still debating whether to go with leather or rubber, so I'd love to see what people think of the quality of the new strap. I'm hoping this might encourage anyone who has one to come forward with their impressions. Cheers Dangerman
  3. We constantly see discussion about whether a watch is too big for certain size wrists. As part of this people post wrist shots, often from up close. I found an interesting take on the subject on time zone and wanted to bring it to your attention. Appologies if it has been mentioned before. http://forums.timezone.com/index.php?t=msg...id=0#msg_953641 Basically they say that a kind of optical illusion can make a watch look much bigger on a wrist then it does when viewed from a distance. Fascinating stuff. Hope that helps some people.
  4. Sorry to hear about the bad news Epoch. I know I might be missing something but why not start wearing your watch on your right arm instead? Never been a smoker myself but I all the best for your quitting. Hope it's not too bad.
  5. Very nicely said Who. True words of wisdom, short and straight to the point. ROTFLMAO
  6. If you like dive watches check out the Marathon G-SAR (Automatic) or T-SAR (Quartz). http://www.broadarrow.net/sale.htm Very tough diving tool watch . Gets rave reviews on dive watch forums. The auto is around $700 and the quartz around $450. Plenty of high end professional users go for them. For example the auto is used by some Canadian and US Gov customers. NASA search and rescue use the quartz. As a bonus this will still leave enough for a nice rep as well.
  7. Thanks Pug. Could you say why it looked wrong on you? Was the gap too big?
  8. Mum with no underwear! No don't go there, must resist. Too late! Nooooooo! Now I'm damaged for life. Damn your evil ways Pug.
  9. I agree that you can't just go by a wrist size. A narrow or thick wrist can mean that two people with the same wrist measurement may not both be able to wear the same watch and have it look good. I have read others here say that forearm size also has an impact. The other thing is the the watch. As an example the black 45mm Planet Ocean is said to wear smaller due to the colour of the dial and the round shape of the case. Panies with the squarish shape wear big on the wrist. Also the type of bracelet or strap makes a difference. I usually find a leather strap makes something seem smaller when I wear it.
  10. Has anyone put their 45mm Planet Ocean on a Nato Strap? I'm wondering if it looks good that way. I'm especially interested to see if the gap between where the strap goes around the springbar and the case is too big. Any pictures especially wrist shots would be appreciated.
  11. Thanks Baltic. I'd like a nice gen and the "Speedy is on the list for when the day comes to decide which one. By the way it was your comparison of Speedy Gen and Rep that pushed me strongly toward this one. Excellent post that, plus By-Tors Speedy reduced review and those damn Pugwash pictures. Puggy you should be in advertising...you make it look so bloody good!
  12. Bazz I agree on the display back . For whats just a "cheap rep" it's amazing the attention to detail and aesthetics that has gone into the mechanism. Who cares if it looks like the real movement, it just looks gorgeous. Reminds me a bit of the engine on a hot rod. Now if only I wasn't getting callouses from winding it. Any idea why is it that WD40 is no good?
  13. Thanks everyone. I'll try again when it runs down. I had a PM suggesting lifting the crown one click and then a drop of WD40 between the crown and case. Any opinions on this before I give it a try?
  14. For years I have wanted a Speedmaster Moonwatch. When reps finally allowed me to get one I was surprised to be a little disappointed. Strange because there is absolutely nothing wrong with it. I think the problem was my previous rep was the Seamaster Professional Chrono. That is such a magnificent bank vault of a watch. It's an almost perfect combination of accuracy as a rep as well as build quality. Not only big but attractive as well. The size, weight and thickness are just so nice. This gives the SMP Chrono a really authoritative masculine wrist presence. By comparison the Speedmaster feels thin and light like a toy. It looks great up close in photos (thanks Pugwash!) where you can see all the interesting details, but on the wrist it just seems so much smaller and thinner and looks a bit anonymous. I should ad that I've mostly changed my mind. Not really fair to compare such dissimilar watches. Having worn it for few days now, I have come to appreciate it as a dressier option, though I will probably still opt for a leather strap and maybe a NATO strap if I want to toughen it up a bit. It really is very nice, but it's likely that nobody will ever notice that it's not just another Citizen.
  15. Just got my Speedmaster Moonwatch. It's very nice but I find it quite difficult to turn the crown when winding. Is this normal? The last wind up watch I had was as a kid so my winding muscles are out of shape. Still I do remember that it was quite easy to wind.
  16. I'd love to know one in Sydney as well.
  17. Excellent review. Loved the photos...man that table has really got some character. These are the first pictures of the Inge that have made it speak to me. I'll have to put it on my list now. Thanks!
  18. Ahhh thank heavens for wikipedia.
  19. Can't see myself going to Melbourne but I'd go to a meet in Sydney.
  20. You have just stated pretty much the exact same dilemma I am having. Hard to justify the extra expense but seems like a pretty good chance I might live to regret it if I don't do the service. One solution I have considered is to look at a watch with a more reliable movement eg the manual wind Moon watch, or a quartz version of the SMP Chrono if you can find it. But I will admit that if I go this way, I'm not getting what I really wanted at the start. I think I'll just have to take a chance but I'm still considering.
  21. Thanks Richard If I go ahead with 44mm it would be with something like that top picture. Still when I saw By-Tors big arms and read he wouldn't go 44mm it made me hesitate. I think I really need to find an AD and try one on.
  22. Guys this is exactly what I needed to hear. This has been a real gold mine for me. Sometimes you need opinions not just facts. I normally think of my self as the kind who likes an understated watch. I have always wanted a Speedmaster Professional. But when I tried one on at the AD I was reminded that it is relatively slim and subtle. It looks great up close but from a distance the Speedmaster could go completely unnoticed on your wrist. Now don't get me wrong I still love and want the Speedmaster. But I happened to see and try on the Seamaster Chrono. I was really blown away by its sheer "presence" for want of a better word. Now it's certainly not subtle or understated but something about the bulk of but that big Seamaster Chrono really appealed. But for me it may be a bit too recognisable as well. Then I started thinking that if an impressive masculine looking case and face was what I wanted, then maybe I needed to have another look at Panerai. Samm tqq interesting to hear what you say about not getting the metal bracelet. I Was quite taken with the look of the bracelet I admit. Hmm lots more thinking/agonising to do. Marinamm20 and azgjav hose wrist shots were brilliant. I saw a couple I really liked. Loved that first black one. (Is that finish durable) People are always posting pictures of the watches but I rarely see good photos of them being worn. It really puts it into perspective. I'm was starting to think I could get away with 44mm till I read By-Tor's post. Ahhhhhh!!! I'm going crazy trying to decide. Sorry to be so indecisive. Sadly I can only afford one nice rep for now. If I get it wrong it will be at least a year before I get another. You know the usual story: mortgage, baby with another on the way, yadda yadda yadda. Sigh!!! Anyway enough whining for now. Pugwash I love the IWC's as well. One day I'll get a pilot chrono but not the Big Pilot. Too big for my tastes. Sorry JTB I didn't realise when I first posted that only photos were in that area. Thanks for fixing that up. Sorry also about getting on to movements. I've read a lot about it but it's often contradictory. I guess there is no easy answer on that one. When I get closer to deciding I'll post a more specific question. Richard that is a really worthwhile and interesting take on the subject. I hadn't considered which face so far but do like chronos. You've really got me thinking now. Joshua I keep thinking exactly the same thing. More wrist shots that give the view of someone standing next to you are what I crave. And to all you guys joking about penis size; well I guess I was asking for it wasn't I.
  23. Thanks for the welcome to the club and the advice. How have you fared with the movements so far. This is my second concern, the Asian movements seem to come in for a lot of criticism.
