Good to hear others feel like I do. It's OK on steel but I have to agree with Jon Fort, it's too stealthy on steel. No wow factor for me. I felt a little better when a friend finally noticed it after a couple of meetings wearing it. He said he likes it the most of all my watches, so I guess it mostly comes down to personal preferences. But I will still be moving to wear it on leather for most of the time. I've decided to get both a black leather breitling style and a brown one as well.

So what are we supposed to do after polishing? Rinse the metal in water? That can't be right surely???

Just got the white dial steelfish and I'm taking a while to warm to it. IMO the white dial blends too well with the brushed finish on the case. It kind of makes it look a bit small (maybe I am crazy, I don't know). I read somewhere that the white dial version looks better with a leather strap. I think I will try and see if it helps me to like it better. So I'm looking for color and material sugestions. Probably leaning toward a shade of brown. Light or dark?, caramel?, gator or calf? I'm open any to suggestions.

The thickness is what I love about this watch. Really makes it noticeable to others without having to resort to bling. You do feel the heft of the watch, but sometimes that is exactly what you want. Not really a watch to wear with a suit during the week, but great on the weekend. How much do I love this watch? I recently dropped and broke my SMPC and was heartbroken. I have thought about it and have decided that I just have to get it fixed or buy a replacement.

My four month old baby son just threw up all over me, my 3717, and its leather band (on to my third shirt for the day now). I guess that's a good argument for stainless steel bracelets! It's a bit of a lost opportunity really. Could have gone where no post has gone before, but unfortunately I rinsed it off before I thought to get some pictures for the forum. Ahhh the ongoing replica adventure. I knew I bought that Orange Monster Diver for a reason. That will now become my go to watch for future baby duties. Hey at least the dog didn't swallow it right? Anyone got anymore gross watch stories to share?

The bracelet is very well made and extremely comfortable. But for me the look is a bit bland and anonymous. Just personal preference but I prefer the leather strap, and have ordered a dark brown buffalo from HK Tan. IMO a thick and bold leather strap gives this watch more wrist presence. It stands out more and commands attention. Normally I'd be switching between metal and leather but in this case it's just too hard. Many people including myself have had considerable difficulty removing the bracelet. I eventually gave up and took it to my watchmaker. Even he took a while to get it off. So whichever way you decide to go you might have to stick with it.

I'm about to get the Swiss ETA Steelfish but I worry about scratching the outer AR coating. How well the outside layer of AR coat hold up to daily wear? I'm hoping that it can take a few knocks. Steelfish owners please tell of your experiences.

I would never think to wear it with any kind of dress shirt. It doesn't try to be remotely dressy, but that is what makes it great. It is an uncompromisingly tough, casual watch; and a brilliant one at that. I guess thats a great thing about our collections. They allow us to have watches that specialize for whatever the occasion might be.

Great to read your review. I don't have a Bentley but was very impressed when I saw one on someones wrist. Great presence even from a distance. The Bentley really deserves more attention than it gets.

Wow The Zigmeister that is magnificent. That cheered me up quite a bit. Maybe this misfortune is the incentive I needed to take the plunge for a full service and relume. Thanks.

I'm still mourning my loss but have started looking at my options with The Zigmeister. Once I have stepped back and have a better perspective I'll decide what to do. Need to sleep on it. Hopefully my subconscious will show me the way to go on this.

Appreciate the thought By-Tor. Great watch, body like a tank but sadly within it beat a heart of glass. Yet still I love that watch. It really makes me wonder though. Would a quartz movement have been tougher. I suspect yes. And cheaper too. But now I've got into mechanical movements with their "soul", I can't bring myself to go down that "rational" path.

This is what I am considering doing. It's probably the smart thing to do. But every time I look at its poor unmoving form, it just looks at me with such sad, imploring eyes. It's like its saying "please don't leave me...I'm begging you, just give me another chance!" I'm finding it really hard to let go.

I am so [censored] off with myself. Dropped my year old Seamaster Professional Chronograph and now the hands don't move. Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! In case you can't tell, I'm pretty upset. This was my favorite watch. Weighing up my options but they all look expensive. Unfortunately I haven't yet found a local watchmaker who will work on Asian 7750 so I either: Send to The Zigmeister? Buy a new one? Throw it away and buy something different? What really pisses me off is that this was all my fault. My new rep money will probably go to fix this. I know it's not like someone died or anything. Sorry everybody...I just needed to blow off some steam.

Thanks Eunomians! I ended up going with the HK Tann Big Pilot style strap in Brown Buffalo. Should be with me in a month or so. While I wait I'm tracking down a good buckle or deployant to go with it.

Good point about the fun factor being diminished. One down side of the higher prices is that it's agonizing trying to choose a watch. Then once I get the rep, if it's got issues its a hell of a lot harder to just live with it, knowing that it wasn't actually all that cheap to buy. Finally I care more if I damage my more expensive reps. I have always said that I go for quality not quantity. But sometimes I wonder if I should change philosophy on this, at least for a few of my purchases.

Just give me a minute to explain what I mean. I took a watch to my regular watchmaker. It's a small family business. His father started it and still helps out. So this guy was brought up since a kid with watches. In my conversations I have been struck by the fact that while he knows about fixing watches; he actually isn't really into them in the way that guys on the watch forums are. I suspect he doesn't have much in the way of fancy watches himself. It got me thinking. When you work around a large quantity of nice watches do they lose their mystique and allure? I suppose a prestige brand AD might be like this, but most would have a relatively small range. Most probably also sell a fairly small numbers of watches. To me then the best group to examine would be the replica dealers. Our replica dealers live day in and day out with a huge quantity of watches. They handle watches that are replicas of the best designs the gen makers can conceive. They live every day with a staggering diversity and variety. In short they experience a quantity, quality of design, and a variety in their watches that your "average Joe" simply could not conceive of. Yet still I have questions. I wonder if they are jaded? Is it all just a blur of hundreds of meaningless pieces of metal? Are you just a professional, doing a competent job? Would you still be interested in and get excited by watches? Some how I got to thinking that this is a lot like the life of a porn star. Superficially it might seem an attractive line of work. You are experiencing an enormous number of sexual acts. These vast number of acts are of an extraordinary variety and perversity. Finally this tremendous variety of innumerable acts are performed with partners of a physical perfection beyond the reach of most mere mortals. (Hugh Hefner and Julio Iglesias aside). But the reality is not all that attractive. The porn stars are just professionals doing their job. They work in a highly clinical and impersonal way. It's probably boring and they do it largely for the money. Often they are much less physically perfect away from the cameras. The job even carries an element of risk of social ostracism and danger from sexually transmitted diseases. Let me say here that I'd love to hear from some dealers here. Especially the smaller ones. I have always got the impression that for instance, TWP is a true watch lover. But he may be atypical, as I also understand that this is not his main line of work. Come on everyone. What do you think? Are our replica dealers the new porn stars? Oh and any former or current porn stars, please give us your thoughts as well.

You did an excellent review arminvanbuuren. English is my first language and I haven't yet done a post anywhere near as good as this one of yours. Thank you for putting so much work into it.
