  1. I don't think that many people would be dumb enough to copy him. Every time he posts a stupid repair there are many replies talking about how dumb the idea is. This is sure to deter anyone from trying this at home.

I am still relatively new here, but have been collecting watches for a long time. I watched his last vid about the pearl without knowing his act. I was following along thinking his English isn't very good, but I lived in Germany for a couple of years and I've seen worse. I was watching with curious interest until he pulled out the epoxy and I said to myself the man is daft, and I flicked it off. Like I said, I didn't know he was doing this to be funny.

I can see someone not knowing what they are doing, new to watches and collecting, and wanting to try a mod, coming across a vid like that one and doing something stupid--as beginners are likely to do anyhow. I've been messing with watches like I said, a long time and I still do something stupid every now and then. When I first began, you should have seen how many times I swore, cussed, stabbed myself, and generally went apoplectic every time I had to deal with a springbar. I think back and laugh at myself.

I think moving it to a humor section would be a good idea. Then at least there is a warning of what to expect.

I'll have to watch that vid again with the thought of it being a comedy act.

  2. A dealer told me he needed 500 pieces

I would believe 500 is a very valid number. How many gens have you seen put out as a limited edition of 500 pieces? Gevril drove me nuts with this. I bought a few GV2s when they first started making them again. Then they would change a dial color and call it another "Limited Edition" ... of 500 pieces.

  3. F'n warmongers.

    You're right though.

And I agree it would be better without the "replica" in the name... just Watch Group would be better, or MWG - modder's watch group .. anything else.

Modders Watch Group would be a cool idea. Or this one would be even better since it seems to be a touchstone in the biz... Maria's Best Watch!!! MBW.

Some things users can do as well is stop using full names. R*lex instead of you know what. P*ypal, whatever. Few realize how through Google is at indexing words on the Web.

  4. The four that I'm aware of:

TW Best/MBW GMT Master & Explorer II

    Pam 029

    Pam 063

These resemble my collection. :thumbsupsmileyanim: Fantastic movement....highly recommended!

MBW. Blah blah blah. Wish we'd stop talking about the Maria's watches since we can't buy them any longer. It only serves to make me envious!

Though I think this is the first I've seen the "TW Best". What is the history of that one?

  5. Can I ask a question. I am sorry but I have gone through this entire thread trying to figure out which freaking watch model in which configuration is being offered under the group buy. There are so many variations being discussed and asked about. I might like to get one if I could figure out what you all are talking about. Can someone identify the Post # that contains the model(s) being offered under the group buy?

  6. I guess my question is...is there any way to get a package overnighted or sent second day from China?

Doubtful. RWI has a new dealer listed that is supposedly US based and that might work. [ Brand9Avenue.com ] They are on probation though because they've apparently swiped some photos from Joshua or Andrew. You'd need to find someone US based to have any hope. What kind of watch are you looking for? Good luck.

  7. This morning I was telling my wife that I have been wearing my fake pretty much every day for the last two months for swimming every other day for an hour, running, bathing and everything else that I do. The watch works well and it doesn't have a scratch. She said to me with a smurk: "Well honey, its a rolex"

    Andres

Oh she is a woman. You have to make allowances.

  8. Tim, what was mentioned in response to the clicks is absolutely correct. I once thought the same thing you do. I felt that there was no way a Rolex would have that soft a feel on a bezel. Yes, you can move it with one finger as you say. Then, while passing through the airport in the UAE, I stopped to look at some Rolex watches in an AD there. I had my Yachtmaster rep on. Well, they had the gen, so I asked the attendant if he could show the gen Yachtmaster to me. He did and the first thing I checked was the bezel and I rotated it. It has the same gentle click that you mention. I was a bit relieved as I felt I had a faulty bezel on my rep. Not to mention, the rep was so close to the gen in appearance. But, you will not be satisfied until you feel it for yourself in an AD. Go check it out.

Thanks! That really helps to know. While the Yacht-Master is probably about my favorite Rolex, I really cannot understand why Rolex has the cache that it has. In many respects they are not all that impressively put together even though many say that Rolex over engineers their watches. I really like the YM rep I got from Trusty but I do not know if I ever would invest in a gen.

Did the AD notice your replica?

  9. The clicks are supposed to be soft in the genuine as well. The tighter click bezel is only on the submariner.

Really! I didn't know because I've never held a gen Yacht Master. But this design is becoming my favorite of the Rolex reps. I thought it should be a little tighter because you can easily move the bezel out of position. A test for me is I rub a single finger along the side of the bezel. I figure that they should have enough resistance so that you cannot easily move the bezel with one finger. The Yacht Master moves easily. None of the others do.

  10. To us, Western Union and Paypal are offshore. MonkeyBonkers are based in London, not unlike, most likely, either your bank or insurance company.

You expect every dealer here (are there any US-based replica dealers on this forum?) to deal with your offshore US-based systems to put you at ease, when those very US-based systems are the problem?

You're buying into an offshore hobby, I'm afraid. If you don't trust British banks, you'd best stick to Western Union and pay the surcharge for your security.

I haven't trusted the British since Group Captain Mandrake killed General Ripper at Burpleson AFB.

And the French! Don't get me started about the French. Long live Freedom Fries! :bleh:

(Please know that this is meant as "sick" humor)

  11. the info you use to "verify" the bank acct is an acct number and routing number avail on any check from yor acct. they dont take money from your acct you have to wire it to them.

You think it's safe to give an off-shore entity of any sort your account information? Then your address? And a credit card number as well?

    .....interesting.

And what do I do when their computer systems are hacked and my accounts drained? I begrudgingly gave that information to P*ypal because if they messed me up or were the cause of any sort of fraud on my account I'd sue them.

The primary reason it is dangerous is exactly because I have no recourse should anything go wrong.

    /Tim

  12. I am merely suggesting that we make it more difficult to find through search engines, so that any dipshit that types in replica sub doesn't end up here or RWI/TRC.

Then the question comes up again, what is the purpose of RWG? Is it to inform about the reps and making mods? Or is the purpose to buy and sell watches. I suggest the former, because we are not dealers (mostly).

    /Tim

  13. Agreed, we should move the boards to a different server and change the web address. Then only invite the members currently enrolled, any new members should come from a trusted member's invite, this would put it more underground and away from the rep police.

Unfortunately, you'll then move the problem with the board if you move all the current members. I don't know what the solution is. Perhaps, just perhaps we ought to try something we use in networking called a honeypot. Have a front board that only talks about the mods, general discussion, everything EXCEPT selling or trading reps. That way RWG can still fulfill its mission of informing and steering people away from the rip off sites. Save the trading and dealing to a seperate board that is invite only. Learn about the people in the general board and then once they have proved their interest and established some sort of reputation, invite them over to the trade board.

    Just an thought....

  14. GET A MONEYBOOKERS ACCOUNT NOW..........ALMOST ALL DEALERS WILL HAVE A MONEYBOOKERS ACCOUNT....IT'S JUST AS EASY AS PAYPAL.....!

So how much is Moneybrokers paying you? :g:

Sorry, but in this day and age, I think I'll pass on linking a foreign financial institution to my banking account. When my bank account is drained, who exactly am I supposed to call? I am sure that Queen Elizabeth will be very concerned.

Other issues that I can see, although this isn't all that clear to me, is that it appears these transactions are all done in Euros. So that means that if I link my CC to this account I have to pay a -- very expensive -- exchange fee for every purchase. CC's charge about the highest exchange rate of any method of exchanging currency.

I like reps, but will do without in such circumstances.

I can understand how P*ypal is pissing people off. Totally understandable, and I would agree with you.

So if a dealer offers no other payment mechanisms, than I will not buy from them. I think Trusty and Josh have a perfect solution in figuring out how to take CC's. If it is anything like the US, there are services you can join as a small business that enables you to take credit cards. This way, I can use my one-time-use ShopSafe credit card number and both of us will be safe and happy.

Worse case scenario, I just just have to cool my heels and take the time to use a postal money order. Dealers might consider establishing a mechanism of trust with some of the established customers around here. I am sure if Pug or ByTor tell one of the dealers to send them a watch and the payment is in the mail, there should be enough trust there to allow pre-shipment. Maybe if when you mail the payment, get a tracking number that shows when the item was actually posted into the system might work as well. The dealer could check to see if the tracking number is active then ship the watch. If the envelope comes in and is empty or no payment then that is no more of a loss than some of the other situations that happen when we order watches (lost shipment, confiscated by customs, whatever).

Of course you'd only want to use this method with people who you've done business with already. I know in my situation, I'd rather take a loss than screw around with one of our dealers such that he doesn't want to do business with me any longer. If the dealers were smart, they'd start a mutual banned list of people to not do business with--a blackball list so to speak.

    My two cents.

  15. I got one of the new design Rolex Yacht Master watches. I think its a great rep, but was wondering if there was a way to make the click stops as you turn the bezel more "clicky". Right now that are very soft and the bezel moves easily--a little too easily.

  16. We need this panerai. And I mean we really need it. As in really really need it. Don't know if I've said it before but guys we really need this panerai.

....need it like another hole in the head. Have you guys looked to see how many Pannie reps are out there already? Personnally I'd prefer some of the other model lines be beefed up. And if they are going to spend time on a movement, it ought to be a decent automatic with seconds at six.

  17. I think the U-Boats are kissing cousins of reps already. Just a hunk of metal case with an ETA 2824 shoved in them. If you like one of the designs and can get it for ~$300-400 go for it. Otherwise one of the Panerai reps you'll find here or, if you want something a bit more on the legal side, you might check [ http://www.internationalwatchman.com ]. IWI has some dead ringers for Panerai. They are basically the same watches you will find here but not branded. I bough one or two of these watches and been very pleased with them. Main difference, besides the lack of a infringing Trademark, is that the IWI watch will be more consistant whereas the reps from any of our dealers will have more variation batch to batch. Course they will cost a bit more as well....
