  1. nice strap and watch too...sorry for asking this...where did u get that watch from ?

    tq

The watch is trusty's best 104. Overall, a nice watch. One glaring issue is the seconds sub dial (at 9 o'clock). Instead of being recessed with the same finish as the rest of the dial like the gen, it is flush with the dial, with concentric circles machined in to make it look recessed.

  2. I think the difference is the cut of the bevel on the underside of the bezel. The most current offering is not cut as deep (or as far, in other words) as some of the earlier bezels were cut. The most current bezel definately closer resemble the gen. I'm not sure when the factory started cutting the deeper bezel bevel (bezel bevel, say that 5 times fast :p ), but I have one of an first available SSDs and it has the same bezel as is currently available.

I never bought into the "thicker bezel" notion. Not thicker, just less material machined away.

  3. I've noticed over the past half year or so that I have all but stopped wearing Pams. My lovely 192 and Mini Fiddy seem to be just taking up space. I've also noticed that at least half the watches in the sales sections these days are Pams. Interestingly enough I find myself wearing Omegas exclusively as of late, and even my beloved Breits sit unused. Anybody else get in these sorts of ruts?

That's funny you post this today, especially when you say you have lost interest in PAMs in favor of Omega.

I've been waiting for 6 months to get an appointment with the Ziggmeister to install a gen date wheel, gen crown and tube, and service a "sticky" movement in my Omega SMP chrono. Well, I received notification today that he was ready for me to send my watch in. After a nice email exchange with his assistant, I have decided to forgo the work for now, withdraw my place in line and spend the money I would have spent on this service on my current obsession, a PAM 104. I already have the "best" trusty version and will purchase a DSN version with the money I was going to spend on my SMP. Between these 2 watches, and with the purchase of other parts (yet to be determined), I hope to get back in line with The Zigmeister so he can help with this project as needed.

I think it's natural to switch back and forth.

I'm sure there will be a time when I kick myself for not doing the SMP service, but my watch fund is not unlimited and I'm just into PAMs these days. Besides, I can always reschedule the SMP work.

Have any nice PAMs you want to trade for an SMP and parts? :) (Just kidding. I think I'll keep the SMP)

  4. "You've just made me change my thoughts from "may contribute" to "will not.""

Someone else probably just changed his thoughts from "may help" to "will not".

"Not true. When I click on the upgrade button and the link to pay with credit card, I have to agree to setup a reoccurring payment. I won't do that. Especially with the way the USD has been performing lately. Who's to say the 30 euro won't be worth 100, or 200, or a bizillion USD in a year."

If you are paying via PP you can subscribe, pay once and right after the transfer you can unsubscribe so that no further automatic payments are made. When your upgrade runs out you just do it all over again..

    Tom,

I thought PP wasn't an option. I am considering opening a moneybrokers account, but if I can use PayPal, I won't bother.

Can someone please confirm that PayPal is a valid option?

    Thanks,

    Mike

  5. It's 4:00 a.m. here. I'm on-call for my job this week and I'm up working a production issue and waiting for a coworker to get back to me. So while I'm sitting here in the dark doing nothing, I thought I'd use the opportunity to update my avi pic to a new shot I took on vacation to the big island last month.

Ohh,Hawaii...How I envy Lanikai. I'd move there in a second if my job would let me telecommute from an island...

Hey, It didn't work...Still last years pic...

  6. What seller is going to be bothered with sending a 100 emails and pictures for a $300 watch?

a 100 emails and pictures? I realize I said several pix, but I was talking 4 or 5, not 100.

Members of this board do it everyday. Check the members -> watches section. Panatime sends me a picture of the exact strap I order from them and that's a $40.00 item. It's called customer service.

It doesn't seem like DSN had any problem sending an email with picture to petergunny.

I'll just have a friendly dialog with him when I'm ready to order and see what happens. From things I'm reading here, it seems he does care about keeping his customers happy which only makes sense. Unhappy customers become non-existent customers. It's kind of hard doing business without customers.

  7. I think even if you get the pictures you request, there's always the possibility of a dead movement. That is a possibility from any vendor. Only reason I say this is because I ordered a new DSN104 and it showed up with a dead movement. I sent it back, ordered an extra watch and had two FLAWLESS 104's at my door in a week. Mine hasn't left my wrist since it showed up and it's keeping perfect time with no issues whatsoever.

Best of Luck. I have another order going in this week for a 240 and 036.

    -M

That's good to know M. Maybe I'm being too paranoid.

  8. From what I know, its just a one off payment, and then you have to pay again to renew your subscription?

Not true. When I click on the upgrade button and the link to pay with credit card, I have to agree to setup a reoccurring payment. I won't do that. Especially with the way the USD has been performing lately. Who's to say the 30 euro won't be worth 100, or 200, or a bizillion USD in a year.

  9. I'm trying to think of a way to order a 104 from DSN that will be a keeper on the first shot.

I'm thinking of telling him that I will send payment for a 104, but I don't want him to send a watch right away. Instead, I want him to email me several pictures of the watch he will send for my inspection. If, and only if, I approve of that particular watch, he may send it. If, for any reason, I don't approve of that watch, he has to pick another watch, send me pictures of that watch, and let me inspect those. This process will be repeated until I am satisfied with the pictures. I will, of coarse, retain the right to return the watch I receive, for refund or replacement, if I am not completely satisfied.

Obviously, this would have no baring on my receiving a watch that has a mechanical issue, but it should go a long way toward eliminating the possibility of my receiving a watch with cosmetic issues.

    What do you think?

Does this sound reasonable, or would it just [censored] him off?

    Mike

  10. well.... i am taking one for the team and I have an "ultimate" 104 in hand from trusty and a DSN 104 in transit...

    Legend,

Please keep me informed. I'm probably going to order the DSN in the near future (unless he totaly screws UJ over). I don't know what your plans are as far as merging the two, but I'd love to know if the CG from trusty's watch will fit DSN's case. I also would love to hear what you think of the crystal and date mag between the two (I love the trusty crystal).

    Thanks,

    Mike

  11. I've been in a situation with DSN lately and I can't seem to figure out. Ordered 5 Pre-V pieces that were unusable (except for one) and had to return them. I've been waiting for my replacements for a while now. I finally get an email saying that my replacements will ready next week (this past week) and that he'll shoot me some pics prior to shipping. Two days later he asks me when I'll be shipping back the watches, as if he forgot I already shipped them.

I don't know if it's a lack of communication or organization, but I would hold off on buying from him for now. DSN currently has several issues with members and models, including one with the 104 I believe, which is the base for the 240. Good luck if you do buy and remember to post your thoughts on the watch when it arrives.

Wow UJ... I didn't realize your issues were still unresolved (I should pay closer attention). That's definitely NOT good. I guess if we all continue to order from him, he will never be forced to improve on these short-comings.

I'll be keeping a closer eye next week to see how things work out for you before I order anything.

  12. Oh GREAT!!! Just when I decided to order his 104, despite the dial flaws (too far apart L SWISS MADE L and too short 9 marker) I see this. Both of those problems seem to be fixed.

Just had my heart set on stainless and black dial...

    Thanks a lot gavidoc!!

    SONOFA... :cc_confused:

  13. Wow...My gator is on the way!!

I emailed Seth when I received my Legend II and told him how much I love it and expressed interest in a gator. He told me to go to their web site and look for one I like and let him know which one I choose. Once I did, he sent me an invoice for $139 +shipping and said he would pick one out as close to the one I picked as he could and send it right out.

    Can't wait to see it!!

  14. Hopes this helps in your discussions here. I think you needed some closeups of a gen 104 for comparison, I tried to get similar angles as your photos. Sorry for the reflections, just couldn't get the right angle tonight.

@mjmurphy926, your case looks fine, date font looks close and mag very good, of course the concentric rings are something you will have to live with unless you change the dial. That DSN dial looks mighty close to the gen. so your plan to combine the two if the parts fit seems like the way to go.

    Regards.

Wow, Thnaks Omni...Some actual gen shots to compare with...Great.

I'm pretty sure if I bought a gen, it would also be the 104. It has the traditional PAM look with the practicality of auto winding and date. For me, the perfect watch.

    Thanks again,

    Mike
