  1. I personally am going to try and get into selling to try and justify the expense of tools and watches as a hobby [business]. Seeing prices on recently sold items is a HUGE benefit. If you are looking to buy a broken, yet fixable brand X watch - and want to know if it's worth the time and expense of fixing said watch - a great place to look are 'sold' listings. Even if said watch didn't really sell for the listed price, the listed price got a bite. You can at least then have a ballpark figure to see if it's worth trying to fix/sell. If it's too close (the buy/fix vs. listed sell price), I probably wouldn't do it, just in case negotiatons went on that are not included. But, the listed price got SOMEONE inerested Removing the price (and associated photos) makes the entire thread of a sold item useless. You might as well delete it, if you're going to allow that. Obviously, the rules here DON'T allow that. Moreover, this is a FORUM, and what is posted herein should be of benefit to ALL, not just a flea market for a seller to quickly hock his goods. I'm just saying what others have said, but I gotta chime in. It's hard to gauge what you want to do if there are no reference points.
  2. Stauer Dashtronic (with modified stainless band) & Syma S101 R/C micro heli
  3. Nope, that watch is from 1976......
  4. I think this is what you're supposed to do in a thread like this (sorry it's so fuzzy).....
  5. Wow - great read. I especially liked the part about the emotional value of a watch. The watch in my avatar was given to me by my father 25 years ago. It is essentially worthless, but I wouldn't sell it for a million bucks. I mean it - that thing is priceless to me, just because my dad gave it to me.
  6. This sort of stuff sux, especially for us newbies. It's hard enough to deal with learning the lingo, trying to contribute to the forum and everything else, but scams hurt we newbies as well. We are looked at automatically (justifiably so) with a raised eyebrow and a "who are you?" sniff. That adds to a place being stuffy and snobbish, although it's all in the safety of every buyer/trader. It's just sad. I realize why at our lawn mower forum, the admin won't allow direct member-to-member trading or selling on the site, although many of us have suggested a topic for it. He wants to avoid this kinda crap. Again, just plain damned sad.
  7. Translation us are being working good, Thank you! Gotta love engrish!
  8. Thanks! It'll take a bit to get used to it, but I'm confidednt....
  9. I know that digging up old threads is usually frowned upon, but I think I can add to this discussioin. The watch to which you refer is called a 'jump hour'. It's called that because the hour displayed in the window will snap (or 'jump') to the next hour at about three minutes till. They've been around since the 30's, but were most popular in the 50's, and again in the 70's. Although I say "most popular" that is to also say they have always been a rare bird. They seem to be making somewhat of a comeback now, although few modern "jump hour" watches are a true jump hour. Stauer 'jump hour' watches are NOT a true jumping mechanism (I own the Dashtronic - the top pic in Jkay's post above). They simply replaced the hands with numbered disks. My Andre Rivalle (E. Gluck) is a true jump hour. It comes from the mid-70's. It is a 17 jewel Swiss movement.
  10. Hello, all! Glad to be a part of the forum! I belong to a few forums, and when I find a topic I love, i tend to be very active. Two things I love: lawn mowers and watches. Common theme? They are machines, and I love machines! (Being a machinist helps out here!) I am particualrly intrigued by the microscopic machines known as mechanical watches, Chinese or not, I have found some really nice timepieces. I have quite a few watches, but my favorite is the Andre Rivalle Swiss jump hour from the 70's that my dad gave me over 25 years ago. I'll use a pic of it as my avatar, if I can..... I have perused many watch forums, and they mostly have the same two themes: they either have no participation, or they are dedicated to only high-end gen stuff. This forum seems more my style. For the cost of a gen Rolex, I can have a whole COLLECTION of neat stuff from China!! Thanks in advance, and I look foward to contributing.
