  1. Best thing to do is she what he will take cash for the watch without the trade involved. In my area I have seen 16220 DJ anywhere from $3500 on the high end and $2100 on the low end. It seems the options you described are the norm and not a special version. The way it looks is he is getting your Tag trade for free. No matter what, the watch is used and not a brand new model. It is not a bargain, but you don't really buy a watch as an investment unless it is vintage. If you like it, buy it. You might want to just do a full cash deal and sell your tag on your own to recoup some of your purchase price. Best wishes on your purchase!
  2. Remember your friends...I have been nice....as I have seen true clones in the past! I am keeping my fingers crossed. Where are you located?
  3. No worries. I have been collecting reps since the early 1980s and have seen all kinds of things including true clone movements. People need to understand the art of copying something is not reached until it is done at a perfect level. Sometimes they might be so good that one might not even know it is a copy. Most people are familiar with the china products, while some are good there are super reps. Vietnam has been the place for high quality "franken" watches for years. I was also told by one of the original MBW/MBK sellers that those cases and such were made in vietnam. In later years (the newer models)I was told they were made in Thailand. I look forward to seeing the pics! PM me with info once you get it.
  4. I would like to see some pics of the 3135 movement this guy is selling you. I have not yet seen a true clone or exact copy of the 3135 movement. I have seem some true exact 1570 clone movements in the past. There were even some that have shown up on the Rolex forums that have been questioned, but they are so good it is hard to tell. There was a guy in Vietnam back around 2000 that I could buy a gen looking 1570 clone movements for $350. I purchased two from this guy back then. I used them in some water damaged Rolex watches I had bought to repair and sold them. My watchmaker told me they were "gen" movements, but the guy I purchased them from insisted that he "made them". He even offered to sell me 10 or more at a time. If I had only know what I know now I would have bought him out! I lost contact with the guy around 2004. He had the vietnam cases too at that time. The clone movement that most of the forum members here are talking about is a poorly copied ETA based looking movement that has markings that look like Rolex markings. Please show us the pics of the movement. If it is a true copy I am sure you might have some of your friends her interested in purchasing some. Also ask him if he has access to other true clone movements.
  5. I know this dial style was also on the mens models of that time period as I had one. The band does not look right. Maybe a aftermarket replacement. Also the end links seem to have a higher than usual gap on both sides where it fits up to the case. It looks like the endlinks have the correct 468b on them though. Usually a band of this age would have a fair amount of stretch in it. It might have also had a sapphire conversion crystal added to it. My wife has a gen 69173 and the case back and drilled lug holes are the same as this one in the pics. My wife scratches here crystal often, so I have been thinking about having the sapphire crystal conversion done on hers.
  6. What movement ring would you use for a gen case with an ETA? I have one of the 162xx and two 16xx cases.
  7. What movement ring is everyone using for doing these frankens? Are you using an ETA 2824 or a 2836?
  8. Looks good! Keep us up to date on your progress. Thanks for sharing!
  9. Makes sense. How about doing a red 1680? Are there any decent rep red dials to consider? How good would just using one of the aftermarket cases with the supplied crown, tube, and insert be? Most of the 1680 have replacement parts on them by this age and most have service replacement parts. My goal is to use as many replacement/aftermarket parts as possible of course to keep the cost down, but I don't want it to be a bad franken either. I already have a 1570 out of a date just that is ready to go.
  10. I am wanting to build a "perfect" 1680 for my dad as a special birthday present. He will be 70 in November and I want to give him something special. When I was growing up he had a 1680 great white which he loved. I want to build him one as a present. I want to use a gen 1570 movement, and use mostly gen parts except for what rep parts I can get away with that don't scream fake. I have owned some great frankens in the past, but the game has changed the last year or two so I wanted to get the experts advise. Which case would you use that is closest to gen? (Dad still has his original papers for his great white and will probably have that serial # engraved on the case) I know the vietnam cases in the past were best, but not sure which ones are suggested. Which dial is best? I know their are many varieties out there. Which bracelet would you use? Which bezel insert? I am looking for the "best" for the money which I know many times can be argued. I don't want dad to ever be in the situation that someone has doubt. I have read many articles on here, but it seems that many of the suppliers have new stocks that are not like the old ones so many articles don't may apply anymore. Let me know what you guys think...I appreciate all input!
  11. I've been in the market for one for a while. I don't think that MBW makes this model anymore...
  12. Sooooo nice! How did you mod the movement to fit the gen dial?
  13. I will try that... I will keep my fingers crossed...
  14. My soon to be wife wants to purchase an AP ring for me as a wedding ring. I have seen a few on Ebay, but not really in the US. Does anyone know a good source for these? I am sure a few of the gents out there maybe like them too. Like this one.... http://cgi.ebay.com/AUDEMARS-PIGUET-RING-18K-GG-DIAMONDS-VON-LUXUS4YOU-/400090564289?cmd=ViewItem&pt=DE_Kleidung_Schmuck_Accessoires_Uhren_Armbanduhren&hash=item5d274186c1 I am needing a size 10 and none of them seem to be anywhere near that size... Any suggestions?
  15. Let me know buddy! I hope it is back on your wrist by the time you are in town from that drink...
  16. This is a gen...maybe an aftermarket bracelet, but the case (head) is gen. The dial also looks original and not a redial.
  17. Some of the transfer gears are damaged... How difficult was that to do Guru1? ...I might consider doing that on another when I have it serviced... Anyone know someone that might have a spare movement for parts?
  18. A buddy of mine and I are in search of a few A7750 sec at 12 movements for our AP reps. We have four that have parts that need to be replaced. Anyone know where to source a few of these? I know the normal a7750 are easy to find, but the sec at 12 not as much.... Any help is appreciated. Thanks guys...
  19. What kind of mods did you have to do to the case? Any mods to the movement? Looks like the date wheel is spot on!
  20. I purchased a ROO Shaq sec at 12. The crystal is scratched. I thought the crystals on these were sapphire? It must be mineral because it is scratched correct? Anyone know where I can get a replacement crystal? Is the T3 the same size? I was thinking about maybe buying a cheap quartz version and changing out the crystal. I know most of them (quartz versions) now say "same as 7750 case" so I thought that might work. Any ideas on what you would do in this case?
  21. I hope they can correct the dial markers on the 7032 dial as they are to far from the edge. Wishing and hoping!
  22. Could you use a swiss 7750 base movement and then add the A7750 sec at 12 assembly? I was thinking about this on one of my sec at 12...
  23. I agree with you Lani. Purchase the A7750 in the watch and when it wears out, buy a swiss 7750 off of Ebay and have it installed. I think in the long run you might never have to change the movement. I think it will also turn out cheaper for you. I have dealt with Hont in the past and he is a great dealer. I know he is not on here, but that does not represent that he is not a good dealer. Good luck with your purchase. Both the 3717 and the TG are great reps!
  24. I think it would turn out great and very close to gen. Go for it and show us the results!
  25. Yes, Yuki has the best price on the 7032 cases. They can also sell you the movement markings for Tudor...
