  1. Sometimes these things are done deliberately so they cannot be accused of creating perfect reps in the legal sense. Sometimes it's because they just make silly mistakes because of the language barrier. For a while the earlier fiddy's had one F missing from Officine - eventually someone realsied it and it was corrected. Why not buy a gen back for the speedmaster.
  2. The fact that the question was asked in the first place means you wouldn't understand!!
  3. You have a PM. Thanks for the referrals guys - appreciated.
  4. It has come to my attention that some of you are very quick to lodge a complaint with PP when a deal has not gone quite right. Please only complain to PP as an absolute last resort. All the dealers that list here will sort out any problems if you let them know as soon as it occurs. They might need some time to obtain a replacement part etc so be patient. If you do complain to PP this usually results in the dealers account being suspended which could have a negative impact on other members transactions with the dealer concerned. Also dealers can only have a limited number of PP accounts and too many complaints might result in that dealer being unable to offer PP, despite PP's problems, for those of us who find it easier to use. Remember that the dealers are the ones that take a lot of risk as this whole business is against the law and without them we would be unable to pursue our love of these things.
  5. Too late - it's gone. Now I will have to wait another year for it to come up again!!
  6. Double dome means that it is like a normal crystal - domed on outside and domed on inside. The version that Paul has with auto is a fantasy watch anyway so would not touch it. The version Angus has is ETA powered (and suprisingly they are Swiss!!), but I would choose the Moljina powered version because it is almost exactly like the old Rolex movt - and that is what I have. Strap size is 26mm and the length would be 130/85 as it is designed to go around a sleeve.
  7. Met V when he came to London for the day last week.
  8. I've had a permanent erection for 3 days waiting for this but it is beginning to go down now - damn!
  9. You will often find that the springitude of the half toothed dog sprocket whirlification module can lead to an imbalance of the balance resulting in thingifying of the doobreywhatsit ugimyflip!! Best to send it in!!!
  10. It should be remembered that the reps are made in watch factories that make legitimate watches as well and so they all employ standard techniques and materials in their construction. Most parts will be bought in like crown tubes, which all have an internal O ring, chrono pushers which have internal O rings etc etc so should be waterproof to a reasonable depth (and not just shower proof). I would happily swim with any of mine - but you do need to check the caseback seal is present (and a wise move would be to lube it with silicone grease) then make sure it's done up tight.
  11. Oh sweet mead - have not had any of that for a very long time!! Also a popular 15th century drink in England.
  12. Hic**
  13. I might be your man here - what needs doing?
  14. He's a paid up member as well - definitely [censored] (as I am rapidly becoming!!)
  15. Patience is a virtue that can be most painful sometimes!!
  16. Those buckles sure look good
  17. Don't forget how many people are involved in the chain. We buy off the dealers who in turn buy of the wholeaslers who in turn buy off the factory - so what we pay $300 for actually costs about $50 to make (one skilled swiss watchmaker in Switzerland may make about $70,000 PA - 1000 watch technicians in China make about $50,000 between them PA - do the math!!! I bought my first rep in Beijing - PAM 111 with ETA - $180. Sam e price we pay for a asian movt rep!!! There is lot's of markup because there is the demand.
  18. If you keep showing pics of that Metta I will have to kill you!!!!! (unless you give it to me)
  19. If you have not tackled this sort of thing before I would advise to leave it to someone who has due to the risk of scratching the dial and ruining the watch. There are special tools required (although not essential) as you will need to remove the movt from the case and possibly remove the hands and re-fit them. It may be that the second hand is high on it's post or the hour hand is too deep on it's wheel or bent down at the tip.
  20. She gets my vote!!
  21. Dover Castle - That used to be my local a couple of years ago!! They do a very nice German Weizen bier on draught there!!! I might bring a few choice pieces ion my travel case!!! You will be able to recognize me easily enough - just look at my left wrist, if there is something resembling the Pentagon on a strap that's me!!
  22. The MM has a plastic crystal becasue that's what the gen has (don't you know your Panerai history!!!). The fault with the rep crystal is that the gen is a solid 6mm thick whereas the rep is a double dome. Yes the Rolex winding crown does screw down and the Moljina movt is a reliable and accurate workhorse if serviced, and incidentally (how many times have I said this) is a copy of the old Rolex/Cortebert movt that powered these originally - so it's perfect for this rep. Had mine a while now and running fine.
  23. Absolutely right. The PVD on your buckle is not TiALN - it's just a black paint like finish and should look like the cae not the other way round!!
  24. And my newly re-assembled PAM 28a is standing by all beautiful in it's new PVD finish and Tritiumised dial!!!
