  1. Actually you really might want to consider having a proper PVD coating applied as the rep coating is way too black and is not TiALN. This is a service I will be offering to memebers - just waiting for company to give me a final price for it and would certainly be worth the money. As for Jimmy CG's, they are a little bit thicker than the rep ones.
  2. Ok - sorry for late update. Both the fiddy and 44mm PAMs have a 40mm x .80mm seal. The 183 has the same size dia but is .50mm thick.
  3. Unless someone posts in the meantime I will give you the measurements later this evening.
  4. That's the spirit. Plenty been going on to read and keep you distracted for a while.
  5. Hi Tommy, So sorry about your mother but very glad to see you feel able to start posting again - we missed you. Sorry for Pam's losses but unfortunately that's the way of the game when you do these things. I have now lost money on the datewheels, but hey - that's the risk.
  6. Thanks very much for that - although I don't mind waiting for it to darken. My 1942 fiddy strap from MF was the same so I accelerated the ageing by repeatedly soaking in water and drying, then rubbing it when dry with my fingers and thumbs. Now it has a really shiny Louis Vuitton type Patina and took a couple of days to get it like that. The pic you have shown has black stitching?
  7. You will be fine with any of our dealers. They have done this many times before. EMS is not the same as UPS or Fedex - it is just a registered airmail service and much less likely to get stopped by Customs. If you are really concerned then there are 2 dealers in the UK who send from the UK without any fear of customs.
  8. Actually I do know that, but they do use the same sticker on every rep and the numbers wear off quickly unlike the gen.
  9. I am going to offer this service in the next week or so. I am just waiting for the company to come back to me with a final price. I will remind them next week. I am in the UK.
  10. Ditto that - his Lieder especially - but his symphonies too. Welcome.
  11. Exactly.
  12. Actually it was $110 for the pair (including the PVD buckles). I have just been emailing him about custom orders and he is happy to make whatever you want. I have also been doing a Veni and scouring ebay for old leather satchel bags etc, for my Vintage 6152. Think I just found something too!! So will be sending the leather of to Smat for a custom vintage strap.
  13. The guy with the fake rollie is the little rounded guy called Roberto!! Cripe's - hope he's not reading this - sorry, no offence intended!!
  14. The tell on the rep is the Omega Logo which is printed onto the dial. The gen has a polished applique logo. Also the dial markers are slightly longer and less tapered on the gen.
  15. Exactly - you have to be spending really serious money to get something that might actually be worth it in terms of craftsmanship etc. The only gen I would really consider buying from basic range POV would be a Pre-A model as they are at least scarce and have a slightly different pedigree.
  16. My 28a hobnail dial will be going for PVD next week - got myself a nice nubuck vintage military strap with PVD buckle fitted (for only $59) from Smat over in Thailand. Really good value for money and I think will compliment this nicely. Actually Smat has a nice range of PVD buckled straps in 24/24 - and nicely made too. I hope Smat won't mind me showing pics of the strap he has sent me fitted to his own watch. Also got this one coming for my PAM000 project.
  17. Actually a funny thing happened a while ago on the old RWG. Someone PM'd me to ask what I though of a PAM 183 that a gen owner (George I think was his name) was showing on the Friday wrist check over at the Panereh site. Well there was no doubting it was a rep (recessed cannon pin and the letter A's was the tell) so he was outed!!! It caused an absolute storm, endless denials of ever wearing or having anything to do with fakes etc, and all his mates rallied round him in support. I suspect he had a rep for daily wear with the gen sitting in it's box, but he was caught red-handed (and red faced!!). And the lovely vintage 6152 hommage creation that is shown on the same site is still a fake despite the use of the word "hommage". I have a friend in Portugal with a collection of over 50 gens (some with a staggering value), and he buys reps of them to wear so as not to risk damaging the gens.
  18. Just noticed one of your lug screws in coming undone!! Damn thse reps - they dont fix the lugs very well. I have just bought the 7750 PAM 24 so I hope they are better fixed.
  19. No - he had a green bezel sub. He is in the store on B******n Rd - nice bloke. He is quite happy to get gen PAM's out to show and let me handle!!
  20. I am quite friendly with the Panerai rep in a Watches Of Switzerland store near me - I go in all the time to show him different models and he wants to buy some as well!!! He even wears a fake Rollie to work (he offered to swap it for one of my PAM's - I was tempted until I saw the familiar number on the hologram - he almost had me!!) I am sure there are many Paneraisti that would get a rep of something they could not have otherwise (and there are many that have already), especially as all our reps are not cheap and crappy but actually very well made, and long lasting, watches in their own right. The one thing that does unites Gen and rep owner is our enthusiasm for the brand, and I'm sure that sometimes we know more than the Paneraisti as we probably spend more time researching them to find the faults that they don't have to look for. Just a shame they get so anal about it sometimes.
  21. It might be possible to fix this using some stainless steel dental wire. I will measure mine and see if I have any at work on Monday. If not I will order some in which will take a coiuple of days.
  22. The swan neck is simply a sprung bar that together with the micro screw holds the regulateur in a precise postion. It then allows for minute adjustments throught the screw. It's not really necessary for accuracy and is just as much decorative as functional. The rep ones are not functional due to the shape of the regulateur being too narrow at the part where the screw contacts. The gen regulateur has a much broader flared sword shape which makes contact with screw and sping. It is not possible to adjust the metal of any of the bridges as you will expose brass under the nickel plating. The starburst pattern on the winding gear and ratchet wheel would be impossible to improve as it requires a specialist machine that can produce a radial pattern. Also don't forget that the H series movt is not fitted into a 127. They were only made with the G series movt in 2002/3 in a run of 1,950 units. The H series movt is only found on the 217 Destro as this is a current Panerai model.
  23. It is sometimes the case that the rotor has been slightly bent down and is just touching either the movt or the spacer ring making it a bit more noisy than it should be. They are not the quietest of movts but it should not be very obviously loud. I had this with one of my 2893's - easily fixed.
  24. No - the date window is in a different position and will not fit unless you get a new dial made. Quarks - I hate you!!
  25. This is because the pusher should be one piece with a rod that goes all the way through the spacer, but the reps have the pusher cut short (this is why the pusher in the asian 7750 188/196 appears to be a dummy - it's not but it is blocked by the spacer ring which has no cut-out) so to replace the cut off part there is a small metal cylinder that sits in the spacer that connects the pusher to the movt lever and this is what might hang.
