  1. Welcome Back T,

    And sorry for your troubles; hope all will better for you now.

    As R. say, the hands project will interest a lot of people, and me of course if the hands are the pointed ones (number13).

    i don't have enough time to work on vintage project watches this time (i always have an angelus i want to send to you for service but first need some mods that i don't have yet do).

    An other project who can maybe interest some people here will be to made new plate without alarm for the lucky angelus owner, i will be in it for 3 or 4.

    At this time i only think of a cover plate but i don't particulary like this solution,

    All the best T!!! :)

  2. I am also interested to know more about it, will be very curious to know if gen has same problem ?

    This distorsion problem is a problem i hate for some years :angry:

    For my vintage i use the madasboot plexi who don't have this problem, and some time the DSN plexi.

    A "gen" without this kind of problem is the RXW MM20, lightly domed but saphire.

  3. thanks for the answers

    not about to buy a gen, i was looking at rolli's rep and wondered what the real deal would cost

    also have seen some photos of what i think are gen 6154s and they looked like the crowns sat a little farther from the case than some rep crowns do

    i can tell the vintage arena is in a different league from the more modern stuff. looks like lots a opinions and gray areas since things happend so long ago and werent documented as well

    is an interesting aspect of the watch hobby for sure

    If it's the rep i think, the crown is too close to the case, the case have a double side screw bar, so bigs holes in each lugs.

    The big diffrence with gen is the thickness of the lugs, this lugs are the more thick i have see in rep, and maybe not enough curved.

    But you can mod it to a good size more thin lugs.

    If you are OK with the big holes in lugs and can accept it, this case can be a good starting point for a nice rep.

  4. is the rarest vintage panerai with 30 or 31 pieces

    pricerange 130k+???

    30 or 31 pieces with rp dial brown and ca 6 pieces with oyster dial

    the case is a special design and smaller in tickness

    Toadtorrent have you more info`s???

    Yes, realy rare piece.

    The case is more thin, especialy the lugs, like on the most of today reps.

  5. R!

    Even if this time I had to pass this run it is always a pleasure to see that the hard work has been paid off...they indeed look great!

    I am looking forward to see soon some personal projects with the new dials installed!

    Nice work as again R. :D

    I am very pressed to receive it.

    V., you can be sure that you will see this one in one of my project in the next days, all is ready except the dial; will be a 6152 with a full thick full caseback with only MM engraving.

  6. The hands on the first one intrigue me a lot;

    It's absolutely the same than the blued hands, but in brass ; it's the first type of this hands with the middle bar in the hour hand i see in brass.

    And it cannot be the blued ones with blued remove, because blued hands are made of steel;

    Anyone have more infos about this hands ?

    Find correct hands, especially blued is the only parts i need to achieve a perfect 3646.

  7. Nice work S. !

    During some seconds i thinked you have found a real sandwich dial and was realy jealous :)

    Can you say me more about the case, before mod ; where are you found it ? i will be very interested in the same high bezel; you can PM me if you want.

    And "bravo" for the strap, this dark color is realy nice to match a 3646, same color than on the Volkers book, but you know it :D

  8. R.,

    About value, 800 to 1000usd can be ok i think, theire are a lot of modders who ask 1500usd, big price for modded watches, a lot of time only with unitas or molnija; or like the hublot ones who is a height price for standart rep without work.

    You can sell this set WM3646, the one you will receive will be very better than this one, even if this one is nice and a rare searched case, you will never plane to use it after receive the new one.

    If you decide to sell parts separatly, i will be interested to buy the custom ring for the movement,

    i need one to acheive my 3646.

    For my 3646, I have gen blued hands on the way to me, new pics in the next weeks :D

  9. Nice work S.

    i see we use the same book for this kind of work:)

    It's funny becausei have achieved a same kind of work last month with the same effect dial lume, and i do a shiny gloss varnish dial with some cracks to simulate age: here pics.

    Cali3.jpg

    Where do you find the thick caseback ?

    The engraving is from the Omeris Arpesella one, i relay like this "personal" caseback; where do you do the engraving ?

    I even prefer a thick full caseback instead display one:D

  10. I was maybe not enough clear.

    Theire are 3 watches :

    -the arktos 92, celebrate the journey of Mike around article cicrle in two years, G serie 2004, SE of 500.

    -the arktos Gmt 186, same as the arktos but with a gmt hands, painted indices, not applied like on the 92, silver hands, and the CG is more thick because Gmt, also 500 units but not a SE.

    - the north pole 252, same as the 186, but with blue dial; this one celebrate the polar night expedition of Mike and Borge; if you have never read it, i recommend you the two book by Mike Horn about this two exp, very exceptional.

    I have the Arktos, a very big and thick watch, with a weight of 180gr, and bezel markers are in white gold..

  11. As for the arktos, the rep of this one is less thick than the gen, gen have a more domed back; but it's almost a very thick watch.

    About Mike Horn and Borge Ousland, theire are two famous explarator, but the biggest of the two is Mike, it's the only man who have achieve expeditions like the arctic circle and the equateur line, and always alone.

    I am thinking of buying a rep PAM 252. As I was looking on EBAY I found what is probably the real deal. Some way, the watch on the pics just have that "genuine" look, even though I can't explain what the "genuine" look is. Some opinions?

    Here it is:

    http://cgi.ebay.com/PANERAI-PAM-252-NORTH-...%3A1%7C294%3A50

    At almost 10K USD, I guess it is a collectors item. They have made only 500 pcs of this beauty. One of the reasons I want to get a rep, is the fact that the signature of the two polar expedition members are on the case back, and one of them is a norwegian, as my self. Borge Ousland was the first person to traverse the Antarctica Continent, without support and he is obviously a famous polar expedition man. He was one of the two men participating on the expedition, in which the PAM 252 was dedicated to. The other one, Mike Horn was together with Borge, and they reached the North Pole, unaided, in mid-winter. It means they spent almost 70 days of night, as it is dark at all hours at this time of year up there. And at temperatures down to - 40C/F. The PAM 252 even have a special soft iron inner case, to avoid the strong magnetic field from the earth at extreme lattitudes. An impressive watch, I guess. Is this the "best" rep PAM out there? I guess there is as many opinions as there are persons on this forum, but the rep does look strong in the reviews I have found so far. I am thinking of getting it from one of the trusted dealers on the forum. I have purchased only on rep prior to this. The PAM 252 is ment to be my birthday present, for my self, as I have my 37th birthday next month. My first and only rep so far, is the "ultimate" Breitling Steelfish Superocean with swiss ETA 2836-2, steel bracelet and blue dial. It has double AR and I like it very much, though it has some minor flavs. It keeps time within + 8-10 sec a day, which I believe to be acceptable. The "beast weighs 206 grams (7 ounces) or almost a 1/2 pound. I am sure of this, because I put it on a kitchen digital scale. It was even heavier than I expect. How heavy is the PAM 252 in comparison? I guess it is somewhat lighter, due to the rubber strap? Anyways, have a nice weekend all you rep fanatics out there B)

  12. I agree VDB ...V's dark brown strap is fantastic - especially on your watches!!

    I picked one up myself and am very pleased with it ....great length , so comfortable and perfect with those GPF Mod Dep buckles!!!

    Enjoy yours !!

    P1020926.jpg

    I think i know this watch :whistling::D

    do you plane to do an other run of buckles ? i will be interested by the same without the GPF engraving for my 3646.

    For me, color is not important , i have light middle and dark strap, what is realy important is the quality of leather, it become very hard to find nice leather.

    I have some strap in process, some with vintage french ammo bag, one with V leather; i will post pics.

  13. I think this one is a gen.

    The srping are not on the buttons but on each side of the ends of the deployant parts.

    I have gen to compare, the difference with rep is the middle bar(with the serial number in it) are right end, but on rep it are 5 angles end.

    An other difference is that the rep have springbars on the buckle, the gen a bar you cannot remove.

    Ask the seller for a pic of it closed; on a gen no space beetween parts, a rep cannot have this level of finish.

  14. Even if i am more in the vintages pam, i like what you do on this one, and very nice pics and explanation.

    I also actualy search to use old movement for vintage, other than theangelus and cortebert; i have see some beautifull elgin ones and zenith for the quality; but it need time...

  15. I am alos for 3.

    But i maybe have an other idea if we can find a men able to do it :

    To make an ADAPTATOR ; like in brass; one side with hole of 1.6mm to screw the gen stem, the other screwed in 1.2mm to screw in the crown;

    So you just need to cut the stem short , screw the crown at one side , the stem at the other side;

    Do you think it can be possible ?

    I think it can be nice for cortebert or angelus, and will also solve the problem when some stem are too short :)

    it maybe can be more easy than resized stem ; what do you think of it ?
