  1. The rep bezel insert is scratched to all hell and not ever usable.

I had a spare case from another member here but that spare came without the insert or the crystal so I have no real useful spare parts remaining.

The rep insert scratches very easily with a razor blade and will also sratch with even a sharp edge of a screwdriver tip. I used both when scratching mine. I am not sure if this means it is not real ceramic. Coffee mugs are ceramic right and I can sure scratch those with any thing sharp as well?

I will try to see what appears if I scrape the bottom side of the insert, maybe it is just a coating on top of aluminum on the rep I am not sure.

If I find out conclusively, I will post it or if you have any advise on how I can test it, the rep insert is useless so might as well use it for educational purposes.

That said the Hublot ceramic bezels do seem much more "scratch resistant" than the rolex inserts.

Even the gen rolex one I think would scratch, though I don't plan on trying that one out.

Although the scratches are visible in the photos, I can't quite 'decipher' them... Are they simply 'surface gouges', or are they 'missing pigmentation' with bare metal showing through? ARe the scratches of the kind which would appear on a Submariner insert which had been beaten up, or are they just 'indented' into the substance of the insert? If it's a case of it being some kind of 'paint' removed, then indeed, possibly irreperable, but, if it is simply surface scratches, such as clasps and bracelets pick up, I'm wondering if it might be possible to 'buff out' the scratches :)

  2. Most likely a whole shirt when I'm finished. Nothing on my neck or hands. If I need to cover them up for anything then I will be able to!

    -Ricardo

Sounds like an awesome plan, and I know what you mean about nothing on the neck or hands. I do have some ink on my neck, but, it was carefully measured so as soon as I button a shirt collar, it's gone, with no 'peeking' to it :) Same with the glyphs on the insides of my wrists. They're about an inch back from the heel of my palm, so cuffs always cover them (unles I was to really stretch my arm  ) when I get the Japanese sleeves done, they'll only be 3/4 length (the traditional length) so even then, folding my cuffs back (which I do a lot :D ) won't uncover the ink :good:

That's a pretty extreme reaction to get, bro, I wouldn't've thought it would have been offensive to get traditional work done... Maybe Lani can shed some light on that...

  3. Yeah I do but first I need to finish this arm. I have only one more session (which is just blending the greys and blues into the reds and yellows). I really want to do something on my other arm. I was thinking of doing some Mayan or Aztec theme, but I guess we'll see!

    -Ricardo

Awesome, I really like the sound of your plans for the other sleeve :good: Will it wind up as part of a bodysuit, or just sleeves?

  4. Congrats TJ !!

I need to get the name of the book... it is one of Japans renowned artist.. the book itself is different..

he did tats on the older citizens for free.. the catch was.. they had to "will" their skin to him when they passed..

he would then remove the whole body suit (skin) cure it and stretch it over a opaque mannequin .. the pics are extreme !!

    B)

I forget the artist's name, but I think I've seen the works you mean :) I would really like some traditional Hawai'ian ink, but it just doesn't really blend with the Japanese work I've got planned... I should be getting some ink the weekend after next, and traded my friend a stool, in exchange for the first piece in the suit, which will be the Arabic word meaning 'to strive/to overcome' (the challenge to be a better person), which, although obviously not Japanese, will still blend with the rest of the sleeve :) I'll be sure to post a picture when it's done :)

  5. It looks like I'm going to be able to get my bodysuit done at cost, by allowing a tattoo artist in training to use my skin as practice, so I'll hopefully end up with a traditional Japanese bodysuit, with 3/4 length sleeves, so no ink to conflict with any wrist wear B)

  6. Sweet ride. Thanks for the pics.

Is the 42mm considered a UPO like its big brother? I was going to go for the 45mm, but it just seems so big. I think I might go for the 42mm even if it's not an ultimate, but I wanted to see what the informed consesus here was.

    Cheers

The 'U' prefix only applies to a particular (ultimate) generation of 45mm Planet Ocean. If you can track down a 5th generation 42mm, that's about as good as it gets in that size, it's then a case of modding it to get 'perfection' :) If you're concerned about the size, the best bet is to go to an AD and try them both on, but not atthe same time, or the 45mm will appear huge (as the eye would be comparing it to the smaller watch) The 45 wears smaller on rubber, and the 42 wears larger on SS, but either way, the Planet Ocean is an awesome watch :)

  7. V -- congrats on a great looking watch...enjoy it and enjoy the comaraderie of our world...

quick comments to keep in mind:

    0) watcheden is a reputable dealer...don't forget the $20usd off coupon which is good on ALL watches in a single order...

    1) watcheden drop-ships watches - meaning they take the order and send it to 'the factory' - where it is then sent to you...there's not a lot of QC going on with drop-shipping...some of the "cartel" dealers (and others you will discover here; Hont, for example) do QC...usually the QC service comes at an increased price...i have used watcheden a number of times...and have had to send a couple watches back...the process takes time, but they are good about it...there is some "risk" in sending it back, but i have not had any problems doing so from the US...

    2) for some watches, it's tough to get a steel bracelet at a later time from the dealers...they do come up thru member sales from time2time...rubber and leather straps are easier to come by later...so, at times, you may want to buy a watch with a steel bracelet and buy rubber or leather later -- prices can range from $20-$40usd...

    3) great pix...it's a bit tricky sometimes, but nonetheless, fun...great first post!...

    welcome to the show!...R

Regardless of what they claim, the Cartel dealers do not QC their watches... They are prepared to replace goods, but they do not do any QC beforehand. EuroTimez QC's watches, as I believe do Narikaa and BK, but not the Cartel ;)

  8. Hi there!

Is there anyone here that knows how to take away the cyclop on a submariner and glue it back again ( if it is misplaced or something ! ) !

I can tell you how to get the cyclops off a crystal, but I don't know which glue you should use to re-attach it...

To remove it, you will need a butane lighter, some kitchen tissue, a sheet of paper, and a double-sided razor blade.

It's probably best to completely strip the watch, and remove the crystal from the case, to prevent any damage to the bezel insert, but all you need to do, is wad up a load of kitchen tissue to insulate your hand, and hold the crystal at edge, at the '9' position (with the tissue not covering the cyclops) Then, use the lighter like a mini-blowtorch, and apply the flame to the cyclops. After a few moments, you'll see the glue under the cyclops melt, and you can then use the corner of the razor blade to 'pop' the cyclops off (onto a piece of paper so you don't lose it) Then, use the cutting edge of the razor blade over the surface of the crystal to remove any traces of the glue. Don't worry about scratching the crystal, if it's mineral, it'll be harder than the blade, so no damage... If it's acrylic, well, you'll have a hole where the cyclops used to be the instant you apply the flame to the cyclops ;)

I wouldn't like to suggest which glue to use to reattach the cyclops, but I'm sure that someone else will be able to take over this mini-guide for 'phase two' :) Best of luck with your project :good:

  9. No, different guy entirly. A7750.com tony can be found at RWG1.1 now and again. There are several reviews of his watches and comments over there. Search for "A7750.com" should round up most of them.

If anyone has probs we have his phone number in our admin files.

    Col.

Ahh, thanks for the clarification :)

  10. Fantastic mod review :) Indeed, watches sure look funny without the inserts in place. At my wedding, I saw that my best man was wearing his watch minus the entire bezel assembly :D

Are you planning on doing anything with the spare bezel insert, or might you be open to negotiations on it?

  11. Hard to believe someone will put a 9K watch modded into this condition. It has lost its reselling value completely. If it is rep it is a different story.

The cost is irrelevant, as is resale value. Projects like this are no different to when people choose to customize their cars. Some would say that chopping the top off a Bentley would be sacrilege, but, having seen such a project, I know it looks absolutely awesome, and would probably increase the resale value due to it's unique nature :) Personally, I can't make up my mind of I actually like this watch mod or not, but, I'm not a huge fan of Daytonas anyway... One thing's for sure, the workmanship is first rate :good:

  12. This one is the mid-size at 38.5mm. I tried on the full size, and it seemed too big for this style.

Leather strap in my sights already. The gen deployment has really increased in price since I've last looked at them! But will be getting one down the road.

Stephane: Too bad we weren't able to meet up for the watch shop morning. JoJo took us to some great places.

This is the Aqua Terra I customized for my dad a few years back. The strap was a regular aftermarket strap which I liked the look of, and I just ordered an OEM buckle from the local AD (who don't actually stock Omega anymore  ) It never photographed well, but was a gorgeous watch to wear, and I was hard pushed to actually part with it, so it wasn't easy to hear later that the strap was actually too short for my dad's wrist, and he couldn't wear it  Oh well :D
