  1. I have a nice DRSD that I'm starting on. All vintage reps will need at least the following in my opinion. First, I will work on aging the current insert. Ideally I would like to find a gen and may do so later down the road. This can be accompished with a little bit of bleach and 3m pad. Next you will want to buy one of Athayas 702 crowns. They are so close to gen that it's throwing away money to try and find a gen. Then you can move on to case and bracelet aging which is hard to get authentic. There are several threads on RWI on aging cases and dials. This one is really comprehensive: http://www.replica-watch.info/vb/showthread.php?t=92860

  2. I plan on using the case and movement and using my gen 14270 dial. I don't have the heart to cut the dial feet to use it on a ETA movement.

Eh, once you clip your first feet you tend to get over it. You can send dials out to have feet reattached no problem. I was apprehensive about clipping my first. It's true that it lowers their gen value, but you will always be able to sell them here in that condition.

  3. This project has beed with Ed for 6 months my request, ITS NO GREAT RUSH, I know he's taken a lot of metal off the back of the dial, He stated it'll be a project to make it right I told him to Take His Time.

If you look at pic #2 you can get a very good idea how the hand stack. and it appears none of the hands will be bent and it'll clear the indices, My fingers are crossed,

Additionallly H5 vcan be used if it'll clear the crystal. 2893-2 movement.

Will h5 work with flat sapphire crystals?

  4. On a side note and for those who build up DJ reps. The SA3135 DJ case set is the next best thing to gen. I will do a mini review soon. I am getting a gen 16200 to compare and show you guys. Well worth buying one and parting it out

How much are the case sets? As long as I can get gen 162xx cases for less than 300.00 it seems pointless not to use them.

  5. Yep I agree, the ap just looks great but I know I couldn't pull it off. Gen is way out of my league. I'd be looking to buy something already done. Apologies to the purists I'm just not cut out to take on a project.

Ok let's say £1000. Gen equivalent sub £10k.

Or should I just ask who has the best sub. Lol.

Actually lets rephrase that.....how good is the best sub?

Ps tomhorn, I know right poor old fella. In the Indian culture there is a definite pecking order. The lad with the movado is clearly bottom of the food chain.

The TC sub is actually really good. Throw on a Gen insert, crystal, and dial, and you have a watch that is about as close as you can get to the real deal. That said, I have a franken Datejust as well and it's all gen except for movement and hands. You would have to crack the caseback to know any better on this one.

  6. +1. The iphone's camera is pretty decent, not that it can compete with a dlsr, but you can still get some pretty good pictures if you have good lighting.

Yep, I use a GS4 for most of my photos since it makes uploading easier and good light goes a long way. This and I always place it on a tripod or mount. Not shooting from your hands with a mobile phone camera can make a world of difference in the clarity and focus.

  7. That makes no sense, because the seconds @ 6 7750 models (Daytona, IWC Portu, etc) have been selling for years.

It's not A or B, it's C: most people don't know the difference between the CHS and ICHS versions, so they don't care, so they don't buy the CHS. Low demand is the reason why models go out of production.

PS: I have two, the GMT IIc is working great as well.

If reliability or cost is not an issue, then why even produce a model with the ICHS? An honest question because I genuinely don't understand why they would produce the ICHS model instead.

  8. Mine has been running like a champ for 2+ years now. I just went and looked at the build thread over at repgeek (I posted it here as well but a lot of links are broken) and it was April of 2012, and the watch was several months old already by then.

A pretty small sample size if you ask me. I'm glad that it's working well for you. I assume that if dealers will not offer them that A. they aren't reliable or B. they aren't cost effective

  9. Watch 1

MOVEMENT:  Asian 2824 Clone 25J Automatic Movement, 28800bph (decorated same as genuine)

    Watch 2
MOVEMENT:  Japanese MIYOTA 9015 24J Automatic Movement, 28800bph (Same Stability as Swiss ETA Movements)

The only difference i can see. The 2824 clone is probably a HangZhou and honestly, the Miyota is probably a better movement.
