  1. Has anyone found a decent GMT Root Beer from one of the TD's? I have been on the lookout for one. I bought an el cheapo to mod and the crown tube hole is too big for the gen crown that I bought for it.

  2. 6542 out of box rep. Trying it out to see how much time and $$$ I will spend building one. First time using NATO strap. Nice and comfy. Good for casual Friday:)esadudan.jpg

May I ask which TD this one came from? Thanks!

  3. Thank you so much for replying ... I am a noob - I wanted to get a 28800 bph model so thats why I chose this. I guess I was hoping for a case and bracelet more spectacular than my $90 special .. But it feels just the same - a bit cheap :-)

Because of my lack of knowledge I was hoping for a ceramic bezel :-) I think I basically bought the wrong watch

It's the later model I want with the updates bracelet ; oversize ; with ceramic bezel - generally blue / black bezel ...

    Once again thanks so much

That model has an engraved rehaut which is wrong as well. The GMT Master didn't have engraved rehaut until the 116710 model, the GMT-2C

  4. so from AKTime and Nightwatch, it's a good decision to go with 2813, away from ETAs.

How about 7750? Is it a good movement? Better than cheaper asian movements?

    Appreciate in advance.

    Cheers

If you ask me, the best route is to get a model with a DG2813. You are going to pay about 100.00 less than you would for the A28xx model and about 200.00 less than the "Swiss" models., With the money that you save there you can find a genuine ETA in decent shape from Ebay and have it installed. The Asian ETA clones can work fine but like anything that comes in a rep they will need a good cleaning and servicing 99% of the time.

Apparently this is one of those "no one knows" realms in this hobby. (at least from what I've read so far)

    Asian2813? Asian ETA? Swiss ETA?

Some say that there's no more Swiss ETA in China, or when you order Swiss ETA it's not actually Swiss ETA.

Which comes down to "Get 2813, works great"

Some people also said 2813 is garbage and Swiss ETA is way to go,

even if it isn't what it is they use all the best parts for this model and more faulty parts for cheaper watches, so it's worth buying this model.

Some say that Asian ETA is a good choice given that it is smooth enough yet cheaper than Swiss ETA.

I'm more curious as to which one works the best / will last longest.

It'd be amazing if someone goes "look, here's the truth...", but I don't hope for that much, just want someone to convince me on 1 movement.

    Share your thoughts, Thanks.

I have had a higher failure rate with the A2836/A2824 than the DG2813 movements. That said, I prefer to buy my own Swiss movements and have them installed myself by a trusty watchsmith.

  6. The thing about Alaska is it is really like living in your own separate country. This state is massive. I personally live here because I like the solitude, don't miss traffic, and there is so much to do if you are an outdoorsman. The best hunting and fishing in North America, hands down. People live in Alaska because we love it. You have to earn the right to live here and putting up with the weather is the cost of admission. If living here were easy, more people would be here. You find a different breed of people up here.

  7. Hmmm broker eh? Never used one before. Who's out there that offers this kind of service?

In the mood for a 14270 because of the heritage / cost ratio. For around £3000 the other options would be maybe a Tudor 7928. Only thing is there are so many franken 7928s out there that puts me off.

The Tudor Black Bay is a fine Gen and it's in that price range as well if you are into that kind of thing. I love the 14270, I have the rep with no case holes and I wear it all the time. 36mm is a fine size for a watch and like you said, no-dates with smooth bezels seem to wear larger.

  8. It's funny when Rolex noobs get their first Rolex, the VERY FIRST thing they complain about is the bracelet quality. I got news for you, Gens feel the same way. I have rep and gen bracelets and the gens feel like pieces of [censored] too. Rolex is notorious for having flimsy feeling bracelets. Enjoy the watch, I wouldn't waste too many tears over the bracelet.

  9. Danish Carlsberg beer?   *gag*

My friend, you haven't tried the local brews.  There's some mighty tasty ales around here.  Get your Big Boy pants on and we'll try a couple Alaska Brewing Company Black IPAs.  :drinks:

Love the black IPA, but Glacier Brewhouse IPA is my all time favorite local brew!
