  1. My first purchase from Silix was opened by Canada Customs and they just taped it back up with their fancy government red tape.

None of the others have been opened. All my other purchases came from Canada Post, Silix's was from UPS.

By the way miquel, whats the old gen Tag been up to?

Nothing, pm me if you want to talk about it....

  2. Well , let me say this...

I got my Tag after high school. It's a great watch. Deep down, however, I always wanted a Rollie. My great-uncle has one, my uncle has one, but I don't. I couldn't scrape together $3000+ for one, so I kept wearing the Tag. Eventually, I stumbled upon the world of reps. I bought a cheap auto Rolex in Mexico and thought it was awesome. From there, I found the original RWG, and got directed into the world of high-end reps. I got fascinated by the mechanical movements and the different brands, Rolex, Omega, etc.

The interest in me has never been the accuracy of the watch, but the "style" of it. I like utilitarian, stainless, tool watches. I don't care for gold or diamonds. I like to putz around with them. Make sure I can swim with them.

It's the same with my car. I drive a 1957 Volvo 444. My wife drives a 2006 Montana. I like to change the oil in the Volvo and adjust the drum brakes. My wife thinks I'm crazy, too.

  3. I have a quartz Tag as well.

    Tag Heuer 2000

I have had it for a long time and it is very accurate. I can put it on knowing that the time is correct.

But, I can't do anything with it. I don't get to pull the crown out and wind it. I can't listen to the rotor spin, watch the intricate gears move, or impress my friends with a non-ticking seconds hand. If I only wanted to know the time, I would look at my cell phone, computer, car stereo, etc.

  4. The only bill I've gotten was from UPS 6 months after a shipment from Silix. It was their "brokerage" fee for getting the watch into Canada.

@ duzledwarf .... yeah, you said it! Whats next for you, or are you still enjoying the PO?

  5. I knew Canada was a little lax on our hobby, but now the government is taking a stand...

This is from telus.com news today...Fake goods flooding into Canada an issue of crime and safety

For instance, counterfeit goods are not illegal under the Customs Act, and when charges are laid under the Criminal Code, sentences often are little more than a fine.
"The U.S. trade representative has placed Canada on the Special 301 Watch List . . . the International Chamber of Commerce ranked Canada as the 13th worst country, worse than Nigeria, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Bulgaria," said Lee Webster, a lawyer who is chairman of the Canadian chamber's intellectual property committee.

"As a Canadian, I am embarrassed to report these statistics."

The new laws could include provisions to allow police to seize the proceeds of counterfeit crime - as is the case with drugs - as well as stiffer penalties, and wider seizure power.
I hope it doesn't affect our hobby too much.

    Although...

But Michael Geist, a University of Ottawa law professor, wants the committee to slow down and study the matter further before jumping to the conclusion Canada's laws are inadequate.

Maybe he is a member here?

  6. Thanks for the comments guys!

Yes, it is the best mod I've done. The good thing was that my other sub had a stripped tube. The beginmariner's old one fit just right!

Next will probably be a new bezel insert.

  7. I bought a used crown and tube on the bay a while ago and decided to install it on my Beginmariner.

It was an easy mod with great results. The old oversized crown has been replaced with a super-duper one :thumbsupsmileyanim:

Overall, a great mod with instant results!

  8. I have a Steinhausen quad winder. It does the trick, but is cheaply made. The finish is very poor. The glued-on felt is shabbily done and I had to take it apart when I first got it. The second "barrel" wouldn't work. I got it from ewatchbox.com.....don't make that mistake! I originally ordered a cherry oak, they sent me a black felt. I could return it, but would have to pay restock and shipping! How does that work, it was their mistake! When I called for warranty on the non-working winder, I could send it back, but would have to pay freight both ways and an "evaluation" fee. Obviously, they are not tested before they are shipped.

    Maybe it was a rep?

forgot to add....yes it is loud, but it works.

  9. Great idea, Falco.

I have the watch in question from Silix. The only thing it needs is the bezel from their Milgauss. It has the coin edge as opposed to the modern sub bezel "scalloping". Also, engraved between the lugs is an R serial number and 16610 design.

    The case also needs lugholes.

Other than that, a good starting point!

    Here's after some playing around....

  10. Does anyone here have a Moto Q?

I have one but it doesn't have MS Mobile Office. That makes it pretty much useless to me as I can only import excel and word documents to look at, but not edit. My cell phone provider keeps telling me that it is coming, but it's been 6 months already. Does anyone's have Office built in?

Right now this is a glorified cell phone for me; with only media player, internet, and email.

  11. Of course my countertop isn't real granite like Ubi's.

    It is a replica :D

@jfreeman420 ... I know, I am trying to get friends into this hobby. "But dear, we will save on the shipping!"

  12. The TWG 5513 was a super value for the money. I think mine has a Miyota movement. The only problem I have with it is the weak crown tube. I am down to the last 2 threads on it. Might be time for a new purchase...

  13. Yes it is! I got it from Andrew about 14months ago. I just took it to the wave pool yesterday and she was a champ in the water!

I installed a new insert and tries to dull the hands and markers a little, but they are still a bright yellow.

I think the Beginmariner is a super value for the money. I wear it to work as a beater. Everyone at work knows of my "obsession" and they love to check out my new watches when I get them. They were all very impressed with this one.
