I'm diggin' the man purse
-
Well here's the watch just arrived 20 minutes ago. Tell me what you think of the CGs. And the watch in general. Thanks.
-
wow my TTK 1665 just came to the door as I was writing my response above. Delivered on a Sunday!
-
I'm also awaiting the arrival of a MBW Great White 1665. I thought that the CGs on the MBWs are already well shaped?

Two observations on this. 1. Men/boys have an innate desire to drive their tools hard, be it a watch, motorbike, or toys as a child (my son is really hard on his toys). We like to test things to their limits, hence the term "beater watch"; and 2. it makes us feel like a bad-ass somehow

I'm going to the beach next week and I want to bring my PO rep and use it for what we all want in a dive watch. To get it wet and not worry about water getting inside. I haven't been able to get the watch professionally tested so I thought that if we do a poll answering the following questions, maybe we can all have a reference of odds that they're waterproof or not. So if all the PO owners can answer the following questions, we'll have a nice data set of positive/negative probability of waterproofness for the PO reps that are available to us. So I'll start. Model: 4th Generation/ETA Size: 42mm Seller: Andrew Rain: Yes, no leaks or mist Shower: Yes, no leaks or mist Pool/Ocean 3 meter/10 feet: not yet Here's my PO which matches my beloved upright bass very well.
-
Here's a vintage gen similar to Andrew offering: http://www.coolvintagewatches.com/Watches/.../LX22_views.htm and it only cost 8 reps.

I've never seen a datejust with this type of crystal. http://forums.timezone.com/index.php?t=tre...27928&rid=0

What are we doing? Gen Steelfish are $1300!
Leifhaus replied to Shabber's topic in The Breitling Area
Don't buy a Tempurpedic! Too expensive, get the Rep at Costco for 1/3 the price. Here's a link I bought one it's great! I never wake up with a sore back anymore. The thing comes in a vacuum packed bag that weighs a ton. Reps are like marijuana. They eventually lead to the real thing. I like my orange PO so much that one day when I have extra money I'm going to buy a used Gen. And since this is a Breitling forum, I have to say that I don't like the look of Breitling at all. Part of that is I've seen too many cheap reps of the real thing for so long that when I finally saw a Gen, it looked like a ....well... a cheap rep. The bezel is just so ..overly-adorned. Just my 2 yuan's worth. -
Anyone Into Vintage Pocket Watches?
Leifhaus replied to crystalcranium's topic in General Discussion
I have read somewhere that any vintage pocket watch selling for less than $500 probably needs work so factor that in when buying. Yeah it's amazing that some of these watches are very old to boot. -
Is there a Forum like this one for online medication
Leifhaus replied to Leifhaus's topic in The looney bin
Thanks for the advise, all I want is some ambien. All the doctors I've seen say that I need to see a phsychologist. All I want is some occasional sleep help, it's crazy, no maybe I'm crazy -
Before I found this forum I didn't trust any online rep seller. Now that I am a member here along with everyone else we have our trusted "collectors". It's the same situation for internet pharmacies. I don't trust any of them, but if I could find a trusted one I would consider buying from them. So is there a similar forum for online pharmacies? replica medication so to speak

Aint that the truth! My band played this rich guys wedding on upper Park Ave. New York recently, no tip. I played another wedding last weekend, the family was working class military family, each band member got a $50 tip!

I think I've seen that picture on another site recently. Are you trolling us?

Sometimes too much is too much and then you need a break. For years I used a Kenneth Cole quartz pocket watch like this one: http://cgi.ebay.com/KENNETH-COLE-of-New-Yo...1QQcmdZViewItem I didn't like anything on my wrist since I'm a bass player and was always worried about developing tendinitis. After receiving my father's 1603 last year after he passed away, I got into watches discovered timezone and then found this site. I haven't worn the pocket watch in a while, and now own 3 reps (PO 42mm, modern Rxlex SD, gold VC dress watch) and 2 gens (Rolex 1603 and Ollech & Wajs Mirage III). I don't want too many reps or watches in general. Too much is too much. You get confused and start having too many conflicting feelings about the stuff, "I need to wear each one to justify". You don't spend enough time with each one to truly appreciate them, etc. It's like instruments, some guys have tons of bass guitars and never really appreciate them fully, or can't decide which one to use on a gig. They take one on a gig and regret not bringing the other one. It's silly stuff, but it can start to mess with your mind. As far as basses go, over the last 16 years I've slowly acquired 6 great instruments that each fill a role for me; some bought new, some vintage, some just practical. I'd like to do the same with watches. For me, it's a healthy way to go. Anyone else a bass player?

So your wrist is just under 7 and 1/2 inches. Yeah the 45mm PO might border on clownish for me
-
I haven't had a chance to try on a 45mm PO, and wonder if it would be too big. I have a 7" wrist. It looks like your watch is right on the edge of being too big. What size is your wrist?

4th gen PO upgraded with Genuine Omega hands
Leifhaus replied to Blackrain's topic in Watch Repair & Upgrade
Now you need a new dial so the lume matches the new hands. I too had thought about upgrading the hands and getting the gen clasp since the rep clasp isn't so good, but then I'll want to get a dial and then test for waterproof. Next thing you know, you've spent almost half the price of a gen. I like my PO rep so much that I might have to get a gen and wear it and then pass it down to my son. It's such a beautiful classic. I put my Orange PO on a black strap with orange stitching. The watch really stands out now! I've posted a pic of mine, hopefully it works. I'm assuming yours is a 42mm? -
Do you tell people at work that you are wearing reps?
Leifhaus replied to Jawo's topic in General Discussion
I am awaiting a Rxlx SD in the mail, any day now. I'm a little apprehensive about wearing that one to work even though nobody has noticed my orange 42 PO rep. The drummer in my band thought the PO was a swatch, he hadn't ever heard of omega! However, a sub/sd is quite different, maybe I'm being paranoid. The only person I've seen at work wearing a sub was the vice president. If I was single I could certainly buy a gen SD, but I have 3 kids and everyone knows that and my salary with three kids don't match that watch. So I'll have to tell people it's a rep, but they probably won't ask or notice, but maybe they'll just quietly take stock and think that I'm either wearing the most obvious rep or don't spend my money wisely seeing that I have three kids. I'm probably making too much about it. The biggest problem is letting on to my wife that I acquired another watch. I did show one co-worker the new orange po and he was quite impressed. Hell, my father passed recently and I inherited his '76 datejust, so maybe I'll just say the SD is inherited as well. http://i121.photobucket.com/albums/o236/ze...23/IMG_1152.jpg -
I saw this thread in tz today. Guy picked up a vintaged sub for comparison purposes for only $23.15 in Malaysia. So is that how much they cost from the factories? hxxp://forums.timezone.com/index.php?t=msg&goto=2741086&rid=43373#msg_2741086 You will need to cut and paste the url and change xx's to tt's. Cheers.

Freddy Thanks, those Milanos look nice, but expensive. I got a quote from a Hong Kong jeweler, classicwatchparts.com to restore my gen jubilee for around $80, so I'll try that first. Also in case the gen never makes it back I want to clarify what you said above. Freddy wrote quote: However, instead of separating the clasp from the last link, I left the last link on both ends of the rep clasp and just connected the links to the end of the Milano bracelet. unquote. Do you mean? However, instead of separating the clasp from the last link, I left the last link on both ends of the {GEN} clasp and just connected the links to the end of the Milano bracelet. Thanks for the info.

I dropped my new 4th generation 42mm PO in 180 degree water to test waterproofness. I saw a couple of bubbles coming out of the HE valve even though it came in the mail screwed down tight. I don't know if those bubbles were residual air or an actual leak, I didn't keep it in long enough to find out. Any other suggestions for home testing waterproofness? I went swimming in the ocean with my Alpha PO, no problems there and that's a $30 watch!

Thanks, "You Know Me Anz", I'll try the TZ route, I know that others have done it for a reasonable price. The last thing I want to do is buy a bunch of bracelets and have them not work out. I have to say, this forum is much much more interesting than TZ!

I inherited my dad's Rolex Datejust 1603. He bought it new 1976. The jubilee band is totally stretched. I was thinking I would buy a replacement non-gen ss jubilee bracelet from say globalwatchband, and use the gen end pieces and the gen clasp. I just wanted to confirm from you experts if this is do-able and no forseeable problems with mixing pieces, especially the end pieces attaching to the replacement band. Here are some pictures. Here is the clasp. Any particular tool or technique to remove the clasp? http://s121.photobucket.com/albums/o236/ze...nt=IMG_1155.jpg I want to use the original end links (piece that attaches to watch head) http://s121.photobucket.com/albums/o236/ze...nt=IMG_1154.jpg This is a stretched bracelet, no? http://s121.photobucket.com/albums/o236/ze...nt=IMG_1152.jpg Thanks in advance.

did you test the watch for waterproofness before taking in the water or just live dangerously?
