  1. Is that band stock or aftermarket? There's a gap between the band and the lugs. Beautiful watch, still afforadable.
  2. how did you remove the california on the dial?
  3. Damb, 2,000 spent? That's half way to a GEN. I have one DSN Pam 112 which I'm happy with, but have gotten the watch bug so bad that my next purchase has to be a GEN. Can't wait to spend over $4K on a $200 watch
  4. I love this strap, does anyone know where to get it? I think it's OEM, can anyone purchase an OEM strap or do you have to show proof you own a real panerai ? Where from? Thanks for looking and appreciate any feedback, this strap really caught my eye, probably catch my wallet too.
  5. The one panatime straps I bought is good, slightly cheaper if you buy them on ebay, mainly cheaper shipping, even compared to the RWG 10% discount. look for seller "pstrapusa". Which strap is that on your watch?
  6. Now I understand, my co-worker from Pakistan has a Rado, which just seemed like a weird watch to own considering he's in his 20s. If I didn't have kids, mortgage, childcare bills I could comfortably afford probably 2 or 3 gens a year. Not now I'm thinking of selling some of my vintage bass gear to fund a gen watch, since I'd wear it everyday and don't play the vintage equipment much. But I'm in no rush, I'm enjoying my DSN112 everyday
  7. I also reported it.
  8. If it's fake I bet the seller doesn't know it. 160209015433
  9. Three musts for a good REP for me are: Good LUME, Waterproof, and movement accuracy. My 112 has those three. Besides that, it's the thin crown. Nothing else bothers me, except maybe not being able to go to a PAM GTG, but then looking at the people at those gatherings, I don't know if I'd want to go. My DSN112, on its own just as a watch, I have to say it's a really nice simple, beautiful design that my son and I love to look at. I don't know if I could put that much money down on a GEN for a Unitas 6497 movement.
  10. Okay here's a pic of my nicely trained rubber strap.
  11. OKAY! I fixed my rubber strap and now it is very comfortable. I basically trained the rubber to stay curved and now that it's cuved it doesn't cut into my wrist. I squeezed the two pieces, removed from the watch head, between two desks right near the lugs, where the "C" of OffiCine, and the "N" of PaNerai are and left it squeezed between the two desks for 24 hours. You could also use clamps I guess. So far the rubber hasn't settled back and is sufficiently curved and comfortable. When laying the watch flat now there is a curve to the rubber strap, which is more like a broken in leather strap. It's great. Try it and add your results to this thread. BTW this is a rep strap. All the best. Eric
  12. I lost a screw to my 112 crown guard and after completely researching the internet and RWG, I decided to walk about the city today in the rain with a low grade fever and stopped by a camera repair shop, no luck; a eyeglass store, no luck; and a jewelery store, no luck. Searching the other PAM sites reveals that it's not only our REPs that have this problem with screws falling out, it happens to GEN all the time and is just as difficult and expensive to replace. PAMs sure are finicky and seem best suited for the coffee shop not the open ocean as their history upholds. Digging around my office I found a screw that works, the threads aren't exactly the same so while installing I've probably stripped the threads in the watch case, but it's in really tight! Here's where I found the screw. If you enlarge the photo you'll see the mount for the microphone, there's a screw that holds the mic clip in place. This is the screw that worked for me. http://tinyurl.com/38xqka Hope this can help others who screw walked out on them.
  13. I probably will. Well the watch fixed itself, probably banged it and the spring relaxed. When I brought it to the shop, the watchmaker put it on his EKG machine and it's running fine now. He didn't even look at the brand name or even the dial. I'm going to miss him when he retires any day now. It's going to be a real loss for our region and me.
  14. Nanuq that bike is so cool. New York is tough for bikes, I would suggest a folder like, http://www.downtube.com/ which has an internal geared hub, you can fold it up and put it in a bag and walk through the lobby of a building without the guards giving you a hard time. I'm considering getting one to leave in the car to expand my commuting options. If not than a junker is the way to go and a couple of locks.
  15. Thanks The Zigmeister, when I looked at it under a microscope that's what I saw, the hairspring touching the coils, or touching each other? I'll bring it to the other shop tomorrow, with your information. If he questions the brand, I'll just tell him I don't know brands, he may not even know the brand. He'll see that it's a genuine movement. Either way, I'm not enjoying my ladies size 40mm, 1665 watch in the interim.
  16. My PAM 112 got magnetized after my gig when I carried my bass amp speaker to the car. My wife noticed that I was running about a half hour fast, so the next day I went to the local watch repair and had the repair apprentice stick the watch on their degausser. Unfortunately the watch was still running fast. I may go back and ask the senior watchmaker to try again, but being a rep it could be a problem. One of the employees said that if it's heavily magnetized, he'll have to open it up and get in close to the works with the degausser. So before I do that I went to another guy who said that the watch would need to be cleaned as well because the spring is rubbing against each other and is "creating tiny metal fragments" and that it would cost over $100. I listened politely and left. I knew he didn't know what he was talking about, plus he didn't even have a demagnetizer, he was going to send it out, 1 week minimum. He also mentioned the demagnetizer that goes "boom", which is the really strong one, which from what I've read is not good for a watch. Long story short. I don't know if I can get any service from anyone local due to the watch being a rep and so I'm considering buying a degausser. Hopefully it's not necessary to open the back and do some special degaussing close to the mainspring. Having a display back I can see how the spring is tight and touching. Here's a couple I've found if anyone wants to comment on them or my story above. I don't want to spend a lot on a degausser because I hope to be more careful in future and not have this happen again. Thanks. ebay. I've added the title to search in case the links don't work: Wristwatch Demagnitizer NEW and Easy to use! $29.99 http://tinyurl.com/yvjsr9 (if the long one doesn't work) http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...A:IT&ih=010 Watchmarker Screwdriver Demagnetizer Tool. $16.99 http://tinyurl.com/yrd94t http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...A:IT&ih=015 DEMAGNETIZER FOR WATCH REPAIR WATCH SUPPLY / TOOL. $18.95 http://tinyurl.com/yvnh65 http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...A:IT&ih=021
  17. Thanks V. I'll give the strap some time, but will eventually try to buy a used gen strap. I hate my screen name . It was chosen in haste after I found this great forum. I guess I can cancel the account and choose another, but I'll lose all my posts. E:
  18. I got the standard officine Panerai rubber strap finally after being lost in the mail for half a month. I put tubes in and screwed it on. Wow this strap is what's the word, it aint broken in leather that's for sure. It's stiff. Is it going to break in at all or what you get is what you get? It looks cool but doesn't quite sit centered on my wrist because it's not conforming. Any thoughts?
  19. I recently bought a DSN 112 and even though seller states it's been tested at 3ATM, I'm not ready to immerse this beauty in water just yet. A few months ago I started a "Is your PO waterproof" topic, it got enough responses, and positive responses to give any newbie the confidence that their PO was most likely to be waterproof, even without the "extra waterproof service" from the cartel dealers. I checked to see if the thread was searchable and happily it's in the first page of hits searching "waterproof" on the Omega section, so it's easy enough to find. I want to do the same in the PAM section so that we all have experiences in one place to either confirm the water tightness of their watch or examples of flooding/fogging and which model by which seller. I'll use the same format as the PO topic and start with my 112. I think it might help to put which type of crown mechanism so we could see if the "lock down crown", is that the correct term?, of the 111s, 112s, etc vs. traditional crown was more water tight. Sorry I don't know the correct terminology for the PAM crown system. I'm hoping we can get a couple of pages of data for the knowledge base. Looking forward to your participation. 20. "The 112 is not the best example of a good rep, but it's my 1st PAM and i love it." I recently bought a 112 from DSN, it's a beautiful timepiece. What is it that makes it not the best rep. It looks pretty close to me.
  21. I'll try and make it.
  22. It's always inspiring to glean information from talented people who really know their stuff inside and out, in this instance it's the watch case. There's a similar talented individual on another forum that I frequent for double bass players, he's a luthier, and he's been known to publicly expose shoddy overpriced workmanship from other luthiers, and he takes both praise and heat for it. But the guy is really good at what he does and he sincerely wants people to be informed. The gentleman has left for periods of time, but always returned. The Zigmeister I hope you do the same.
  23. No panerai just yet, ordering a 112 tomorrow. yeah I agree, I'd say my MBW SD makes me feel somewhat a badass at the office and on my music gigs, even though no one else notices. But then, playing bass in a cool swing band makes me feel like a badass too.
  24. Thanks for that, I'll keep this in mind when choosing my collector.
  25. You are not alone, I saw some really nice pics of a 232 on the web recently and thought that it's a really nice simple design, but I'm worried 47mm is too big so I've been considering the 210g or 210h which are 45mm and clear back. you can find examples on trustytime site. Any wrist shots or thoughts on the 47mm size 232?
