  1. I bought one of these monsters more than a year ago but wore it only a few times. It's awkward, heavy, and looks like a clock on even a large wrist. I have three other pams (001, 111, and 036), and even thought the 127 is only 3 mm larger, that seems to be over the limit for both comfort and appearance. :(

  2. Which movement (CN or Swiss)? Who was the dealer? Maybe something is slipping - does it wind smoothly? Only takes about 30 turns for 6497 to be fully wound and last for 40+ hours...

It's an Asian movement. I've had the watch for a couple of years. I also have another 036 with a black (wrong) dial that I got before this one. Both of them came from Paul. Even the watch with a black dial requires about 100 turns to keep ticking for more than 24 hours. :whistling:

  3. I have a Panerai 036 replica that requires an enormous emount of winding to keep it running for a 24 hour period, and even with all that winding it sometimes stops after eight hours or so. Also, the crown guard lever flops and needs tightening.

I don't know whether the watch needs cleaning or some other repair, but I'm not a technical type and would like to find someone on this board who repairs watches. I've come across the name of The Zigmeisterzumba, but he's not accepting PMs.

  4. If anyone gets the titanium Seawolf, I certainly would like to know the particulars. $200 seems cheap to me; it's even lower than Paul's price. Of course, Paul's Seawolf has an ETA movement, as the replicas of this watch have usually had.

  5. But given the market here, I can't imagine you took a loss on it: a 25-metre studio on that block would easily sell for 150,000 euros; with anything larger, the sky's the limit....

We had a beautiful 44m2 studio with a good size balcony. Yes, we made a small profit, despite the new 33 1/3% capital gains tax, but the greater part of the profit was in the decline of the dollar. We bought the euro for .94 and sold it for $1.25.

  6. Lots of spot checks, confiscations and fines for rep handbags from Italy at the border with France, and that's about it.

Other stories from time to time about travellers - even in transit - getting nailed at the airport - usually for fake bags or Lacoste shirts, etc. The customs agents are trained to sniff them out.

At the same time, the atmosphere 'on the street' is quite relaxed. I can even service my reps at the stand - manned by two friendly and very qualified guys - of a large French department store with no problem and no eyebrows raised.

The only problem is somehow falling into the hands of the customs agents whose job it is to enforce the legislation: the laws concerning reps of all sorts (especially the luxury French brands) are real killers, and you don't want to run afoul of them: they make the lawyers and suits from Richmont team look like Mother Teresa.

In a related category, last year the press ran a story about two unfortunate Chinese businessmen who were 'controlled' on a French train with a sizeable wad of dollars. Naturally, there was some obscure French law concernng the amount of cash that can be transported by foreigners.....the poor guys had a huge amount of money confiscated and had to pay a fine on top of it all.

And the government wonders why people don't like to do business here - or why there has been 0 economic growth this quarter.....

......A condo on the rue Mazarine! It's a seller's market here, but it's a pity you didn't hang onto it - or at least rent it out: it's a great neighborhood and in great demand.....

@Usil & Pug et.al.: either day is fine for me!

I'm glad to here there are few problems with watch replicas in Paris.

There is also an American law prohibiting the taking of large amounts of US currency out of the country, but I've never heard of it being enforced.

As for our condo on the rue Mazarine: Yes, it was a great location—right on the intersection with the rue d'Buci. Our problem was absentee ownership. Very few of the condo owners actually lived in the building, which was largely occupied by renters. There was practically no concern with cleaning or with maintenance. The syndic was unconcerned with conditions in the building. When something broke, it stayed broken. When the lights in the hallways went out, it might take weeks or months to replace them. The dirt was unimaginable.

I never understood why everyone said this was such a wonderful neighborhood, and of course it's in the very heart of Paris, when so many of the buildings are in a state of extreme deterioration because the owners are unwilling to maintain them..

  7. rehaut is another thing for us to nitpick about reps :)

war - i am guessing like me, y ou were away from the board for a bit and came back and everyone was screaming about rehaut, took me a while to find the answer too :)

No, I was on the board and kept wondering what everyone was talking about, but I felt embarrassed to ask what apparently would seem to be a stupid question. :) Just today I was looking over some downloads of watch term definitions, and I realized that "rehaut" wasn't among them, so my curiosity overcame my fear and I got up the courage to ask. :whistling:

  8. i would probablay have to agree with the plaintiff in this one, he paid for a watch that was said to be working fine and when recieved it had problems, now i do agree with the guy that said that about DW watches, they r a pain in the [censored] if u know what i mean, u can breathe on that sucker wrong and something acts up, lol

just my two cents, i feel the seller should simply accept the watch back and send the cash back or take it back and fix it for him and send it back again, it seems to be the fair thing to do imho

    joe

I certainly agree with Joe on this. Many of us replica watch fans are "all thumbs" and don't have a clue about repairing watches. If a watch is sold as being in working condition, it should work, period! :bounce:
