Breitling Caseback and Bracelet Compatibility
anton replied to millemiglia's topic in The Breitling Area
You're not going to ditch it; one day you're going to need it if you send in the watch to Breitling Service for an overhaul (which should be in the near future for you). -
warning.. if you were about to do this!

I wouldn't be surprised if that only did it to the rep AR coatings. I've put Brasso, wiped Shino, and ran a dremel wheel (at high speeds!) over a Super Avenger and it's done nothing to the AR. -
Well, let's take a tally here! I looked at alot of people's wrists and I see alot of preferences! How do you wear your watches? Personally, I've found myself wearing my watches outside my jacket sleeves (I primarily wear ski jackets) because I find it a bit irritating to have to pull in my sleeve just to see what time it is. Since I am constantly "on the go", I feel the need to constantly check the time to ensure my punctuality. How about you?

I don't know what's gotten into me, but recently I've taken on the affinity of liking PAMs. No, not so much the "historics" (HW models), but the chronographs. Initially, I like chnorographs. If you are a PAM-aholic, you might have seen the two PAMs (202 and 212) I had on the F/S section and the mangled 187. Ahh, my quest for perfection. The only thing I got from that is perfected wretchedness. I was given the opportunity back in March to buy a 196 for 20% less than 2006's MSRP, but I didn't know PAMs that well, so I passed on it and purchased a 14060M @ 20% less instead. IMO, that may have been the biggest mistake I made. I could have recouped purchase price + some had I decided to sell later! So, I've found my "diamond in the rough": I found it on the 'bay and for a pretty good deal too! Sure, it's small, but I've always wanted myself an El-Primero based watch. It's a good size (40mm), but wears larger (think 42+mm Breitlings) due to its' height and lug ends. The movement is beautifully finished, and I had to do a double-take after I wound it just to make sure the balance wheel was spinning! I'm used to using ETA-based chronographs, so it felt weird to have to turn the time on the first position, date setting when the crown is pulled to its' second position (ETA is juxtaposed). Too bad it doesn't have a "hacking seconds" feature. But one trick I learned was to apply a bit of reverse pressure after setting the time to stop it. I have been through and owned plenty of Gens. And Like Jerry Seinfeld, I'm more a Breitling man myself. But why is it that for some reason, I have this euphoric feeling of getting my first gen PAM that I didn't get when I bought my first Breitling that actually was worth getting (Emergency)?

Breitling Caseback and Bracelet Compatibility

Just do a movement/dial transplant; as that would be a simpler task than dissassembling two watches with the risk of damaging one or both of them. -
It's a Telemeter: Timing to 1/5 second. Timing up to 30 minutes. Timing telephone conversations. Tachometer scale. Telemeter scale ®. By means of the telemeter scale it is possible to measure the distance of a phenomenon which is both visible and audible. The chronograph hand is released at the instant the phenomenon is seen; it is stopped when the sound is heard, and its position on the scale shows at a glance the distance in kilometers or miles separating the phenomenon from the observer. (Calibration is based on the speed of which sound travels through the air, viz. approximately 340 meters or 1,115 feet per second). During a thunderstorm the time that has elapsed between the flash of lightning and the sound of the thunder is registered on the chronograph scale as illustrated on the opposite side. The distance between the observation point and the thunderstorm, in this case, is 1600 meters. On this dial there is also a tachometer scale, which is shown by blue circles (See number . This is used in the following way: if the minute-recording hand points to 0, the speed will be shown on the outer circle (speed between 1,000 and 60 kilometers); if the minute-recording hand points to 1 minute, the speed will be shown on the middle-circle (speed between 60 and 30 kilometers); if the minute-recording hand points to 2 minutes, the speed will be shown on the inside circle (speed between 30 and 20 kilometers).

Got my 074 on stock rubber for today.

I have a World. Curiously, both the gen and rep use basically the same movement, yet the DW on the rep is recessed (like a tri-compax) yet on the gen it's not. Well, maybe it's that we've got a 7750 on one hand and a 7754 on the other. The recessed DW became such an eyesore for me that I removed the GMT gears. Now I've got a flush DW, but no GMT function.

You must be talking about the SS model. Good luck finding the RG for that price. It's MSRP is $13K; so I'm going to safely assume that on the second hand market it could go for 9K.

My question, like always, is the topic. We see people of all kinds, all walks, wearing all kinds of different watches. Sometimes I can't help to think what goes in the minds of some people when they choose the watches they wear. Why is that some people have their defiant convictions when making a selection and others just want that "uber-cool" watch XYZ personality was wearing? Does the watch on our wrists give us an identity or does it confirm that we are followers of a certain trend, that supposedly "someone" started? How did we choose it in the first place? Do you owe it to yourself or someone else that you've decided to wear "A" watch instead of "B" watch? I'm a little crazy myself. I love my unique taste of watches. But why is it that whenever I see someone else wearing the same watch as mine, why do I feel the need to privately bludgeon them with a stick, so that's one less person wearing "my" watch? Did you ever feel this way? Does that mean that I like trends, or do I hate it? Okay; let me start over. Are you a "ripple effect", or the product of a "ripple effect"? Do you start the trend? And why is it that celebrities always get the credit of a watch "trend" when they almost certainly got the idea from some average joe in the bar or the set? And to pre-empt a familiar rebuttal: "In Mother Country, Trend Starts YOU."

Breitling Caseback and Bracelet Compatibility
anton replied to millemiglia's topic in The Breitling Area
Half of me says no. The half of me that says no is the caseback. Even if they both may be of the same diameter, the threading may be not. You also gotta watch out for the bracelets with the curved ends because a rep bracelet may not fit perfectly "flush" on the case of the rep as it would on the gen. Now, don't take my word for it and I agree with what Andrew said about buying an Econo model just to see if it fits. I've had experience with fitting a rep pilot bracelet on a gen Chronomat Evo and the thing that bugs me is that there is a .5mm gap between the end link and case. -
That's what I'm a victim of too. Like you, watchbuff, I bought 2 rep B&R's before buying a Gen. And then the PAM 187. Now I've got a good deal on one and just waiting on delivery. And finally, a PAM 162 has caught my eye and it's been itching to reach into my pocket...

Linc's watch on Prison Break this week (Nov 5)
anton replied to trueimage's topic in General Discussion
Thanks for the warm welcome, miss V. Family, business, and liquidating part of my watches to fund some new ones kept me "off the block" for a week or so. But speaking of Prison Break... Noticed that Lechero (bigwig at Sona) had some watches on his coffee table...wonder what those are??? -
Auth. Rolex Bracelets are guaranteed to be sold at a premium. I don't think that if someone has preknowledge of it selling for $500 would let it go for 20% of the MSRP. If cost is not an issue, the clasp looks questionable (not "prominient" crown).

Just for comparison's sake, here's the pictures we are talking about: Gen: Sapphire/AR version: Mineral version:

Linc's watch on Prison Break this week (Nov 5)
anton replied to trueimage's topic in General Discussion
Hey, they wasted their budget on all those extras and turning Texas into a fake Panama. I think it would be even more preposterous if Linc were wearing a Panerai on his wrist, no? -
Breitling Bentley For the untrained eye, it would appear as a genuine. Heck, it's got the correct Breitling box. But the tell for me was the 60 seconds @ 9.

So, I've taken all your suggestions, and currently I'm looking for a new bezel pearl. Of green paint will just cover it up. Once Chief's AR project goes underway, then I'll send my crystal over. Thank you, Esteban for the markers. I've filled the oval, and here's an updated pic:

Jon Stewart's name is "Jonathan Stuart Leibowitz". don't think anyone would watch "The Daily Show with Jon Leibowitz," huh? and what's the deal with French Stewart? didn't anyone tell him that he'll go blind if he constantly squints like that?

Did you know I'm your exact double? And I know TTK's humor. I understand dry. I speak dry daily. I laugh at Dennis Miller and Jon Stewart.

Hi Teddy Boy, Not to go off topic, but my wife and I are moving to NC within the next couple months. I say Edenton, she says Wilmington. What do you think? And yes, I would also prefer the PO which looks MUCH better in the flesh than in photos. Simplistic, yet elegant.

Geez, TTK, do you insult everyone on this forum?

Today I was perusing the various Panerai forums and I just noticed that someone posted a thread that questioned the authenticity of a 194 that a seller claimed was "OOR". Unfortunately, I didn't get to see the pictures, but another user verified its' authenticity. After more researching, I discovered that OOR meant "Out of Range". Apparently either these are made and sold to specific so they're out of a series production run (possibility), or maybe they failed QC and they were rebuilt with refurbished parts and machined to put them spec. Then put them to market (plausible). Some seem to think they are more valuable, since they are "rare". Others think they are worth less because they were produced out of a series. My questions: Does an OOR have to have its' xxx/xxx number on it? What is your definition of the OOR PAMs? I'm sure you Paneristi' have heard of the OOR. Could someone explain this to me?
-
Hey, we've all gotta learn somewhere, right? I trashed all my PAMs as modding projects. 202 Slytech... dinged that mother up then took out the bezel pearl, 212...modded the CG, then made a lug screw stuck to the case... Yeah, so I admit I have a lack of mechanical ability. But what else can I test them on? A $300 rep doesn't even come CLOSE to the quality of the quality of the $11K gen. So at least it's better to take on a $300 loss than an $11K loss. And as I end on that note, I trashed a Gen Link Chrono with one of my "mechanical projects" that went awry. Let's just say I went "brush-crazy".

A handheld dremel, felt polishing cloth and both red and white rouge will do you good. I've got the XPS400 (don't confuse it with a dell computer) which is a handheld. It gives me much more control than a wired model.
