  1. I was lost after "I don't know. Are you trying to say she's ugly or something?".
  2. That's awesome! No one ken to ken to sivmen. This gem is my all-time favourite, via the magical Ryyannon: Dadog, very easy do this. [ youtube] after = put number here [ / youtube]
  3. I know right! Ever since FxrAndy posted about the animated avatar, I've been searching Google Images for animated .gifs etc. Found many good sites. Here is one: http://www.thatimagesite.com/
  4. Good. And I'll thank people to keep their hands off of my shotguns so I can practise the humane killing of deer.
  5. At the end of her life, Queen Victoria had a close friend -- her servant, the famous Munshi. He was a Muslim Indian. Though her Court were aghast at her decision, she allowed him to kill animals in his quarters, according to "Mohammedan" customs, INSIDE WINDSOR CASTLE. What a long way we British have come.
  6. I love reps. Love buying them, showing them, fussing over them. But "good" Catholic girl with a guilty conscience that I am, try as I might, can't wear a rep to Church. So for today's late Mass: Should it apply, Happy Palm Sunday, people! @Cronsell and Kelster: AWESOME!!
  7. Added to the hilarity is that emoticon is called "Euro". One of my friends from back home. He's 25. And rocking out with a chum. Note the watch stayed the same. P.S.: Don't worry, we all made fun of his James Bond pose, but by gum he looked good.
  8. That is QUITE correct, Scoobs. Trust you to make that sane point. I have mentioned this in the Wristchecks, but my mother and I possess an unusual amount of hidden watches (watches with closed casefronts). They used to be popular over 50 years ago, because it was considered EXTREMELY rude for a lady to wear watches at gala or formal events. Whether we like it or not, wearing a timepiece means that we want to be aware of the time. And a watch at a formal occasion suggests you are looking at the time. Subtext: "What's your hurry? You'd rather not be here?". Having said that, that's obsolete. Even the Queen wears a platinum Cartier with diamonds to WHITE-TIE galas, let alone to less formal occasions like black tie events. I also agree that with a young man, these traditional marques might look fusty. I just can't reconcile even a lovely watch like the Omega SMP with a tux though. The Rolex Cellini Cestello is unusual enough to be low-key. Closest Rep: http://www.trustytime88.com/index.php?main...0b08b3df8327c0f Rolex Cellini Men SS Black - Manual Hand Wind Heh. $88.00. @Pix: LOLOLOL.
  9. Pete, sometimes people forget that you can buy the most expensive watches, online for cheaper. This is true if they are vintage pieces on the old-fashioned side. That said, THE CLASSIC dinner jacket watch is the Patek Philippe Calatrava (Ref: 96). eBay Item: 140115813512 Buy It Now: US $6,750.00 (Sold) Closest Rep: Patek Calatrave ref. 5196 White SS http://www.trustytime88.com/index.php?main...e2e3fe7c893d47b More expensive, but dazzling (reminds me of Pix' Patek): http://www.trustytime88.com/index.php?main...e2e3fe7c893d47b Patek Calatrava 5053 WG White - Swiss ETA 2824 Or: http://www.pc-80108.com/pp10090-calastrava...ream-p-685.html $78.00 Heh. You can ask Josh to switch the bands to black, but with the savings you can buy a strap for peanuts at Internationalwatchman. As we've discussed on RWG before, evening wear and formal occasions like weddings demand leather straps. Black straps are de rigueur. Gold, Stainless Steel, or Platinum -- no matter. Traditional brands like Patek, Vacheron, Jaeger Le Coultre, IWCs, Langes/GBs fit beautifully. Unfortunately, there are few if any Blancpain reps around. The Blancpain Villeret is, to my mind, the most beautiful "traditional" men's watch I've ever seen.
  10. Welcome back, my dear Golfman! Idea -- meet me at RWG Piste #1 and I'll bring my best DSN PAM! BTW, nice pair of Fischer skis! I prefer Kneissl's but don't own them anymore (would be a bit odd in South Florida). I'll be hiring them at my destination. @Golfman: Yes! They were inherited skis. My family are cheap, but at least we like snow.
  11. An excellent introductory question post! I've meant to ask these kinds of questions myself. I hope one of our collectors can answer them. My guesses: 1- 6 months from version to version 2- More difficult to answer, I fancy, because some watches are FLAWLESS (Swiss SFSO, Breitling Heritage). But the Rolexes, etc. -- maybe 1 year. We'll see with the SSD, perhaps. The uPo is on its 5th incarnation, yes?
  12. Feared that might be the case. Well, it's either one or the other. Let's examine the straps and phrasing. This is a strap from Pantast. Nearly identical to yours. Their post on Risti: hxxp://www.network54.com/Forum/353393/thread/1205634286/last-1205641038/Nice+Vintage+Straps+24-24+mm And this is what I mean by the worst leather and stitching like yarn: Great guys, but awful straps. This is my post inquiring if CharlyJakob had changed Fleabay IDs. Eagle-Erfurt thought maybe, then probably not, but he had had better experiences with CJ. http://www.rwg.cc/members/index.php?s=&amp...st&p=326324 The phrasing was identical though: "Now here a Nice Vintagestrap 24/24 mm lenght 12 and 8,6 cm, thickness 5,5 mm, color brown, H A N D S T I T C H E D !!!! This Leatherstrap is an Unikat, gives only this one. PayPal welcome !" That Unikat is pure German translation and unmistakeably his. This is your seller's phrasing: "We offer an Leather Belt 38/38 mm with Vintage sew in GPF Buckle Belt is an Genuine Cowleather from USA. Lenght 104 cm from buckle to the first hole totally lenght is 127 cm and 3,8 cm high, thickness 5 - 5,5 mm, color is Nature. This Belt is an perfect accessoir for Italian watch lover !!! PayPal welcome !" Accessoir is also a FranDeutchism. Note the same misspelling of "length" (common enough even with English-speakers, but still suspicious), the ending about PayPal, the exclamation points separation, and most tellingly, the single-line, Two-Tone-type spacing. The thing is, I emailed the Pantast folks, and they struck me as Asian by their syntax and approach. CharlyJakob struck me as a German living in Thailand or who deals with Easterners. Either he works for them, or the other way around. Either way, I'm fairly sure these are the same folks. Now if you'll excuse me, I have to finish my typing my resum
  13. Yes. Took me 2 hours and change. Some people might reply to me, Davidsen cases are badly shaped -- but I'm afraid I had at the time about 12 44mm PAMs, out of 16, of which only 1 was a DSN. The bracelet was difficult to fit in ALL of them. Here is my thread on it w/ pics. http://www.rwg.cc/members/index.php?showtopic=49534 First the pins stuck out. Tried and tried, but they wouldn't go in. Then Subzero1 wrote this: "There are small metal tabs at the bottom of the endlinks on the bracelet. Take some pliers and bend them down about 30 degrees, then try installing it. Worked like a charm for me. If it causes a gap between the case and the top of the endlinks, take it off and bend them back to around 15 degrees. By adjusting these tabs you can adjust how tightly the top of the endlinks fit against the case." I gulped air, and took out these old rusty pliers, bending those "wings" a touch. BE CAREFUL! Don't break 'em. Result in seconds: Not perfect, but at least it fit. Whew. Good luck! P.S.: Of course, that's the DSN 112. But just to show you, I wear the SS bracelet on the 111h, like you might.
  14. The Magic Eight Balls says! "I see a lot of Breitlings and IWCs in Predfan's future" :velho:
  15. One of the best photos I've seen recently. The out-of-focus background just adds to the film noir look.
  16. It looks awesome! That's the good news. The bad news is that it resembles those CharlyJakob/Pantast/Malaysia/Thailand straps. If so, be prepared for really bad leather, like cheap shoe leather as V once explained. The thread looks like yarn, and feels very scratchy. Pantast sells these "vintage" straps on Risti. The strapmakers, Phillip and Pornthrip couldn't be nicer, but ech, what yukkie straps. Hope I'm wrong!
  17. I love how you refer to your watch as a she. I call them "he". Heh. Yeah, the dial is off. The printing is too heavy even for a rep. I think I see that "too rounded case" look you mention, but visually, the white-dials give off that appearance anyway. Ditto for the glossy dial. It's supposed to be glossier, as PAMman explains. Crown looks better than most. But then the rep 113s tend to come with fatter crowns, for whatever reason. The CG looks very decent, for the price. It's got a better than average OEM brushed look. The rep strap looks like the OEM Tantalium I have on it. Unusual! I'm a sucker for the engraved Panerai bridges, which my own Andrew 113e has. BTW, I paid $158 plus S/H for that, so if you paid less, GOOD JOB. Think of it as having bought a learning curve with this PAM. Do you like it? The good thing about reps is that even if the answer is no, that was money well-spent. Imagine having bought a $4000 gen... @Hike: No worries!
  18. Ztech, I feel bad. I remember that transaction, and patting you on the back after you purchased it. I'm so sorry it didn't work out. I've had better luck on the forums than you, but then I'd personally never pay more than $250 for any watch bought from a member. Hard feelings might occur, if so...
  19. This thread was on my mind all day today. I always watch-gawk now, but today I OD'ed. I saw: - A Nixon Rotolog like Doc Savage has, on a guy inside a Jeep - Youngish woman with this enormous Donna Prada bag (I want!)... ...wearing I believe a (pink) Bertolucci, which I hate. - Guy in a "Shark's Pub" t-shirt buying popcorn next to me, wearing a vintage Sub. I was very impressed! Our eyes met, so if you saw a starry-eyed girl staring at you in Aventura Mall, 'twas me. - Middle-aged dude wearing a Tissot T-Touch, which my neighbour showed me how it works the other day. I know it's Quartz, but that's a cool watch. AND VERY briefly, out of the corner of my eye, I think I saw a woman wearing a Panerai!! On the OEM calf. She looked a little like me too! Wow. That was creepy. EDIT: Wow! I just checked the price of the Bertolucci. Depending on the watch edition, it's from $7k to $29k. Since there are no Bertolucci reps, that gal has Benjamins.
  20. Fair point. Heh. I always say that Truth is whatever two people agree on. That's similar above, Peepshow. BTW, I saw your SOS on the now closed TTK thread. I'm trying to get info, which usually comes on Sundays. Was going to PM you later! Please forgive the delay.
  21. But Dani, isn't it obvious that halal practises ARE NOT barbaric. The whole point of the laws of kosher meat is that it's a more humane way killing of beasts. It just LOOKS barbaric because of the flow of blood. Though I wear furs, I have to tell you, I find the arguments against the wearing of fur, much more convincing than the slaughtering of animals for consumption. Especially as the fur is not extracted after the animal is stunned. BTW, many people find circumcision barbaric. I'm afraid I do too. I would never do that to any boy of mine. *shiver* I guess we all have something which strikes a nerve.
  22. Tangentially, since Homer's isn't: Has anyone here worn a rep to their wedding, I wonder? I'm too young and cutey to be queen! That may be it! Certain Vacherons are busy, Langes can be too. Pateks and Cartiers are clean. When I wear my specially made Teju on the Cartier Tank classique, well, the effect is like Hennessy XO down your gullet.
  23. @Sssurfer: You'll be offline in 2 days, but I'll be offline when you return! Boo.
