  1. Although I haven't been clubbing in several years, that kind of dancing is nothing new. It looks like the rave dancing everyone was doing here in south Florida back in the early 90's. It looked alot better with some glow sticks and a couple hits of ecstacy though. :whistling:

(I love Daniel, my Windows Digital Media Enhancer Dancer!)

  2. V, for yourself in particular, I can't imagine that there are many of those 60 that could compete with the DSN fiddy you've got.

Mezz, you forget -- women colour coordinate their wardrobes, AND not all watches go with the "look" we have when we change clothes.

If I stay home, I change clothes twice a day. If I have engagements that day, it's 3 or more. I never repeat clothes, so I never repeat watches.

I woke up at 10 AM. So far, I've gone from PAM 113 on Savage strap, to PAM 210 on NATO black strap. Early days...

EDIT: 3:35 PM EDT. Going for my 111h on SS bracelet after seeing TeeJay with it. This is worse than that drinking game when you down a drink after hearing a certain word in a movie. UPDATE 9:00 PM. HBB Aspen. 4 changes, 2 showers, 2 changes of clothes. Went nowhere today, just at home. :)

I've resigned myself to keeping my collection at less than ten, and ideally five or six really 'elite' choices, so that I can wear my best watches the most.

I just can't see myself selling my watches. Even those that get zero-wrist time (like the Breguet "Tourbillon" I got from Narikaa).

Don't know how you people do it. Don't you get emotionally attached to your watches??

(Somehow, I think the answer is "no, I want the money instead"...)

  3. :D You should have seen the look on his face. His mouth was moving but no sounds were coming out. :tu:

Shades of that Phantom of the Router story!!

    You know the one:

He walked in, wearing a less than impressive timepiece. Snooty, Sub-wearing AD assistant didn't want to show him a GMT, then Phantom pulled out a pick-up ticket for his own GEN Sub. Sub-wearing AD assistant almost crapped himself, and tried a sleight-of-hand with the trays. Phantom then casually inquired if that fake Sub on snooty AD assistant's wrist was going to be switcheroo'ed at some point for his gen one, and oh BTW, can I speak to your manager.

I love both stories, Nanuq!! Wish I had one. Unfortunately, a recent one of mine has me looking like the slimeball I am.

Went wearing my Fiddy to a non-AD but high-end watch dealer in Lincoln Road. Called out. Next day, like a TOTAL schmuck, I go in wearing my gen vintage solid gold Rollie (c. 20k).

You know, as if to say, "yeah I got your gen watch right here, bub" (grabbing balls).

    Loser.

EDIT: (There's a thread on RWI asking people not to do this anymore -- i.e., wear their rep watches to gen watch shops/ADs. Why do we love living on the wild side? To find out if they're "knowledgeable" enough to catch us? Silly girl/people)

  4. I am curious whether, if I can pull off a HBB, I'll be able to pull off a fiddy?

For some reason the HBB doesn't feel too big on my smaller wrists, but slap on a uPO, and just the way the watch 'sits' makes me feel as though it's way too big.

Because it's a hunk of (stainless) steel on your arm. Panerai are different. The Fiddy is enormous, and wears large, no doubt of that. But I find after a few seconds, I forget it's on my wrist.

I never forget a Rolex or Omega is on my wrist. They're very weighty. The strap thingie might have something to do with it, though.

I say, go for it, Mezz!

  5. Socialite dandy racecar driver with secret aspirations of becoming a naval frogman diving pilot.

And Jfreeman...your collection may be many things...reserved and understated aren't the first words that come to mind.:D Nothing wrong with your style, those just aren't the first words that jump into my mind.

Oddly enough, whenever I think of your dramatic chipmunk with handlebar moutache, monocle and topper, I think PRECISELY:

"Socialite dandy racecar driver with secret aspirations of becoming a naval frogman diving pilot"!

  6. Another great post, Anton! You're becoming legendary.

Let's see...theme...socialite...too pretentious...maybe just right though...still...don't want to come right out and say it.

    How about:

    Early Grande Dame

A combination of power-watches which overwhelm when they have to, but flirty and fun.

I'm sorry, that's the best I can do for a collection of (since last night) 66 watches. If you can find a theme name for that, let me know.

  7. Not for sale but I can't resist.

FM Conquistador with 2892 movement, properly blued hands and gen dial relumed by the master:

GET OUT! Are we always on the same wavelength, Kru??

I just this moment, this very nanosecond ordered:

    FM002LB03.JPG

It was either that, or the Conquistador Curvex above (was that you or Corgi who suggested I get the Conq one day?).

Andrew himself swayed me in favour of the Crazy Hours (requested a white strap as in the gen). He said, and I quote: "The Crazy Hours is a cool watch. =)". Good enough for me! I searched for hours on the Franck Muller website trying to pick out the flaws. Not too many, actually. The hands are less bluey, perhaps. The numerals not quite so tall. Very decent rep for the price.

EDIT: Compare gen (pricetag, Retail $19,800/ Site, $13,900...).

One day, after I get his permission, I'll reveal what watch he himself wears, of all his reps!!

I always wondered about that. :p

  8. Thats nuts! What a holiday!!

Its hard to believe they would shut down the entire country for 7 days LOL

Hello. The entire country of Brazil during carnival -- ESPECIALLY Rio.

Try to get something done the week preceeding Ash Wednesday, I dares ya.

BTW, you Americans have a lot more holidays than I remember as a child in England. Frankly, we used to enjoy having the Queen Mum around, since my kiddie school would take half-day off to serenade her at Clarence House. A WHOLE HALF-DAY! God, I miss her.

*pours G&T on the floor in memory*

  9. Upon looking up which watch Richard Gere was wearing in American Gigolo (turns out, it was the Piaget Protocole in blue face, FYI), I was stunned to find he favours a rather discrete marque, the Wyler Vetta.

    richardgerejd0.jpg

(Caption: "The truly important thing is inner beauty")

As you can see, he is the spokesman for the Swiss watchmakers (around since 1896) who've pledged donating 30 Euros for every watch sold in Italy, France and Switzerland to the Healing the Divide Foundation.

Gere established this Foundation to combat the various ailments of society today, such as "health, illiteracy, ignorance, intolerance, injustice".

As he puts it, "The time is now to bring that world into being!" (why is there always a watch pun?), and the kindly watchmakers have decided to match that spirit with the equivalent of an RWG Membership.

Seriously, though, full marks for at least trying, Mr. Gere. I'm sure everytime P. Diddy plonks down 50Gs for his Jacob & Co. watches, they don't even set aside a fiver for the kids of Harlem to learn how to read better.

What other causes or ad campaign issues do you know are supported by watch companies? Has this ever influenced you, or made you think about buying said watch?

  10. 08.jpg

What is this worth, gen, new? Does this one look gen?

I'm no IWC expert, TrueImage, but this screams fantasy-watch to me, not gen.

It's like they started with a Mark XVI idea, mixed in some Ingy Chrono, added the the Aquatimer Automatic feel...and perhaps gave it Cartier Pasha Seatimer lugs for fun...

I'd be very interested to see if this is a real IWC watch, because it's such a design afterthought, in a marque which OOZES class and SOLIDNESS.

  11. @Vic not my cup of tea, but I have been looking at the Santos lately......

Cartier is a flawless marque. And the Santos perhaps the best designed watch of all time. Classic.

I was of course kidding about the Roadster. I almost bought one last night (went with the Panthere and classic Tank), but I HIGHLY encourage you to get the Santos.

PM if you need any tips. Night!

  12. Not wanting to get all 'preachy' about things, I found this rather excellent passage in the Holy Qur'an and thought I'd share it :)

    Assalamu alaikum

Freely you have received, freely give. (Matt 10:8)

Whether New Testament or Koran, we are all enjoined to give. It's the most rewarding part of belief. :)

  13. Hi @ all

tomorrow i will make a trip to Barcelona for Erotik fair

Great watch, awesome strap...BUT...what the HECK is an Erotik fair???

Is this where middle-aged men stand around getting cast copies of Jenna Jamesons' private parts autographed? Wow! Fun.

Seriously, though, have a great time HELMUT! :)

@Hambone: I can't believe you actually are wearing that Panerai. I thought for sure you'd stick with the Assioma for a month SOLID.

  14. So I finally made the leap, I have been on the same softwarecompany for 6 years but today I signed on for a new one....this is a good day....I guess I must make an order for a watch to celebrate.

    WOW CONGRATS! :)

Why not change total tack and buy yourself a Cartier Roadster? B)

  15. Seriously Vic, one of natures best rash ointments is the papaya. Growing up in Hawaii, I have seen it used to alleviate jellyfish stings, infectious rashes and a host of skin ailments. The most effective part of the papaya is the inside skin. Remove the fruit and gently rub the inside papaya skin on the affected area and relief is immediate. Doctors will not agree as they want your money, but since you are in Florida, papayas should be available anywhere.

I have a problem with that -- I hate homeopathic remedies or anything which smells of "nature's own healing". It's a reaction to my mother's German 'Naturkind' ethos. :)

Not that I'm not grateful to you, Hambone! Or to the innumerable people who have kindly PMed me with suggestions, or good wishes.

But though I hate being on prescription drugs (HATE!), the ones the docs prescribed are actually helping me out tremendously. Doxy is really quite good, and though I'm convinced it's urticaria not acne, I'm clearing up daily more and more.

HOWEVER, I will say this. The papaya may come in handy for clearing up any scars left behind, so thanks for that.

In unrelated news, in Cuban slang, papaya is a bad word, and they use Fruta Bomba for it instead. Apparently, it means a woman's pudenda. If you've ever seen one open, you'll understand why.

    (Except I'm not raven-haired...)
