  1. ok. over it.

LOL. There's a photographer who is coming out with a kind of "Celebs caught in Embarrassing Acts!" coffeetable book.

Your new avatar reminded me of this, which I almost died laughing when I first saw, at the same time, going :nono:

    ht2020queen061031ssvgp3.jpg

I don't think Admin and the Mods would allow it though. :p

  2. well, looks like EMMZY got his wish... i was asked to remove my avatar as the admins got a "number of complaints"... which i can only assume means they got one... after almost 3 years, the animated STICK FIGURE has been removed...

Wun't me! I thought it was dumb, though. Sorry Poops. :)

  3. WEDNESDAY

Surprise! My Navigater Pumpkin PO on a brand new orange NATO strap!

    orangeponatohi5.jpg

    Me likey!

    navipumpkinponatoci3.jpg

It just gives it a different look than the awkward "Mind the Gap" Silix rubber straps, or the cheesy rep leatherette deployant one.

DSN Fiddy on Atelier du Bracelet Parisien (ABP) Ostrich leg black strap. Ordering from them is INTRICATE, and fun!

    fiddyostrichabpgr8.jpg

Yes, this is the very strap made of "exotic" hide that preceeded giving me such feelings of guilt. Not enough to send it back though.

NOTE: The Great Panerai Strap Caper, Part 5 will be out later Wednesday!

  4. Just wondering if you guys think this Fleabayer is none other than strapmaker, Charlyjakob. E.g.:

    ITEM: 170152252386

I checked the old ID and it's still at 100%, despite a lot of Risti members in the Accessories forums complaining right-and-left about his SLOOOOW shipping (me amongst them), so not sure why he would change it.

His description of the listing and his location, Thailand, are both spot on, as is his broken Karl-MBW Germano-English:

Now here a Nice Vintagestrap 24/24 mm

lenght 12 and 8,6 cm, thickness 5,5 mm, color brown,

    H A N D S T I T C H E D !!!!

This Leatherstrap is an Unikat, gives only this one.

    PayPal welcome !

I'd love to bid, but I don't want to go through what I did previously, so if you have any ideas, please let the forum know.

  5. As mentioned above, the current US President wears that famous $50 Timex, which some thought had been stolen from him in his recent Albania trip (there was a thread here on RWG, during my first week as a newbie).

I've been searching for MONTHS for a good, clear shot of this Timex. Here it is:

    bushwatchwf1.jpg

Not sure what I expected, perhaps something plasticky and clunkier, but this is okay.

Oh, and though all the "celeb watch" lists say that ex-PM Tony Blair always wore a $30 Swatch, like this:

    tony-blair.jpg

I think that's incorrect these days.

In a February issue of Newsweek, which I read awaiting a doctor's appointment, he was portrayed very clearly wearing a GMT Pepsi Rolex...in his bare feet.

    tonyrolexso4.jpg

I wonder if he only wore the Rollie privately...

  6. Tyler Florence from Food network wears a 217.

Also noticed today that one of the trainers from Biggest Loser, Bob, wears a pam on a NATO. Jillian wears a Santos 100. :o

No clue who any of these are, but thanks Slai! :)

Here are some others, not all Paneristi:

    * California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger wears an Audemars Piguet watch - the model is called Royal Oak Offshore. He is a watch collector but at the same time he has consulted on several limited editions for Audemars Piguet. Among his favorites there are IWC Big Pilot, Rolex and Panerai watches.

    * Jay-Z loves Audemar Piguet Royal Oak Offshore. He is also a big fan of AP Grande Complication.

    * Silvio Berlusconi, former Prime Minister of Italy wears an extremely expensive timepiece from the world's oldest watchmaker Vacheron Constantin. The price of the watch is $540,000.

    * Bill Clinton is a huge fan of Roger Dubuis watches. Onthe cover of Time Magazine he was wearing a Roger Dubuis Much More watch.

    * Leonardo DiCaprio was seen wearing a Jaeger LeCoultre Master Minute Repeater for $175,000.

    * Russia's president Vladimir Putin has a $60,000 Patek Philippe Perpetual Calendar. This is a really expensive timepiece if compared to George W. Bush's Timex for $50. However, the US president has a personal inscription on his Timex.

    * Yuri Luzhkov, the mayor of Moscow wears a Patek Philippe Calatrava, the price of which is $18,000.

    * Roman Abramovich, the owner of the English club Chelsea, has a wide range of Rolex watches. Among his favorites there is a $29,000 Rolex Daytona and a $19,000 gold Rolex Oyster Perpetual Date Submariner.

    * Britney Spears wears Roger Dubuis watch. However, among her favorites there are also Chopard Montres Dame and Breitling watches.

    * Victoria Beckham (aka Posh Spice) was seen wearing on her wrist an iced-out Piaget watch.

    * Harrison Ford - Breitling Aerospace

    * Orlando Bloom - IWC Big Pilot

    * Ben Affleck - Harry Winston

    * Mark Anthony - Roger Dubuis

    * Anthony Keidis - Anonimo watch

    * Usher - Audemars Piguet Royal Oak

    * Larry King - Ulysse Nardin GMT

    * Jennifer Anniston - vintage Cartier watch

    * Jessica Simpson - vintage Rolex

    * Simon Cowell - Chopard Mille Miglia

    * Tom Cruise - Audemar Piguet chronograph

    * Halle Berry - Franck Muller Casablanca 2852

In case you are not bored yet check out interesting statistics regarding the watch industry:

    * The yearly sales of Swiss watches are estimated at $8 billion.

    * More than 2 million watches, having the price higher than $5,000 are sold each year.

    * More than 30 million watches with a price higher than $1,000 are sold each your.

    * Watches with a price tag over $250.00 are sold each year in a number of 75 million pieces.

  7. I wouldn't quite put him in the same a-hole category as Monty, but we can all agree to disagree at times.

"Mountbatten" was a hurried anglicized version of their original German name of Battenberg which was found suddenly offensive in 1914. As a matter of fact, he had a reputation of being particularly unarrogant in military situations. After being torpedoed, the destroyer which he commanded sank, and after he and few survivors reached the surface, he looked around and uttered one of his most famous lines: "Well, here we all are. The scum always rises to the top."

I would agree with you, for the fact that he had a very light comedic touch, had much esprit and intelligence.

In fact, some of his reputation for being arrogant (though true), was also based on the fact that he was "flash". And the British hate flash, especially the upper-classes.

They resented how he would be commanding his latest destroyer, and have his rich wife (Edwina Mountbatten) follow behind the ship in their mega-luxurious yacht. LOL. I laugh just thinking about that.

He was also extremely popular (he said) amongst the ratings, rather than the officers, because "them below" liked serving under men with handles -- as we call aristocrats with titles. It added a bit of cach

THE FUTURE KING OF SPAIN, CROWN PRINCE FELIPE

    Leonor7.jpg

You know when a man REALLY really likes watches? When he gives them as presents to his godchildren.

    felipegodchildke5.jpg

    http://www.elpais.com/articulo/economia/Ce...elpepueco_3/Tes

That's the latest godson of Crown Prince Felipe showing off what his "padrino" gave him, for his First Communion. I'm fairly sure that's not a Panerai (that would've been funny!), but as you can see...

    ...Learn 'em young!

P.S.: Damn. I only got some silver spoons for my First Communion. And a mother-of-pearl Bible! I wish I had royal godparents -- bet you the Queen would've given me a Fiddy.

  9. One of the few times, in fact, maybe only time I haven't shot Wristies on the same day, as posting them! Sorry. BUT, I have live ones tomorrow. ;)

    MONDAY

DSN PAM 112 which is "married" to my Mario Paci Senape strap. As Scoobs says, they shouldn't be separated!

    TUESDAY

At one of those huge cinema multiplexes wearing my Narikaa HBB in YG, but this one has style. It sells capuccino and my favourite, doppio caffe latte! ;)

  10. V!!!! Welcome back!! I only just mentioned you longingly yesterday! :)

Very glad to see Umberto Eco is wearing one.. I am a big fan and he is basically the only 'important' person from the list for the intellectual ones ;)

Oh, you intellectual snob you. ;)

Yeah, I was copy-pasting the links, when suddenly my eyes pounced on him. I really gasped out loud and got goosepimples.

Plus do you see he has an aftermarket strap? Wondering what it might be...

    Correct!

I'm almost sure that it's another Manifatture Firenze strap, because of the stitch, the grain, and the lack of thickness (MF straps are around 3mm, not the usual Paci 5.5mm, etc.).

    I'm almost sure it's this:

Black calf leather strap with buckle (white stitch)

    Item Code: F2-212

    Extra EC Price : € 72.00* (~US$ 101)

    EDIT: OR...

A1-212 Black calf leather strap (white stitch)

    Same strap, but in 24/22.

    blackcalf2422bo2.jpg

I have that, for the Fiddy, and I have to say, I am VERY sweet on Manifatture Firenze straps. They are a little more comfortable to wear than Pacis...

  11. Please wait while I send you a pic of me to add to the list!

I will seriously wet myself if Bob Marley wore Panerai! Can he get more perfect?? ;)

You gotta admit a PAM looks nice next to a Super Bowl ring.

Mnnnmmm. Dunno. Being totally honest here, I think it's ugly even with the SB ring. :)

I think wearing bling on a Panerai is the male equivalent of wearing pink straps on a Fiddy for women. It can be construed incorrectly as a mere fashion statement, and IMHO, doesn't look good.

  12. EDIT: Check out Deltatahoe's June 2006 post, on precisely this -- Celebrities Wearing Panerai watches. Seems forum members like the topic. :)

This post is inspired by TeeJay, yet again, and is an adjunct to his Orlando Bloom Fiddy post.

  13. :) RESPECT :notworthy::notworthy::notworthy:

We are lucky to have members like you within our community.

MERCI DANKE THANK YOU Serdecznie dziękuję (yeah, I copy pasted)! ;)

Just checked Risti. OMG...he looks so wet in this photo. No wonder I don't like pretty boys.

    800-OB-Panerai-all.jpg

Looks like Titanium they said. I agree, but which?

(They also said he was wearing the Cali, 249, on the cover of People magazine, so he's a definite goner, Panerai-wise)

  14. That's fantastic, and I'd agree with your 'diagnosis' :) Silly question though, what do you mean by 'distinctive reverse side'? Does that mean the section that goes 'outside' the wrist, or the inside surface of the strap which goes against the skin?

Inside, closest to the wrist. :)

Also, now that you mention it, OEM Panerai straps also share this same look. Since it belonged to Philippe Bonay, it's a possibilty.

However, OEM Fiddy straps start at U$350 in their boutique...the default one you get with the Fiddy in the original box is the "OEM Cashmere tan", if memory serves, though.

So that points back to it being Manifatture Firenze's, not OEM.

  15. Thanks for the link, and indeed, a shame the links had been removed. If the watch was on loan, then I'd take Orlando's comment (and the interviewer's note) to mean he bought a PAM after filming (sadly, it only said Panerai Luminor, it didn't specificy further what model he had bought himself)

I have yet to watch this film, Elizabethtown! But if Sssurfer recommends it, how bad can it be?

BTW, should Paneristi watch a cannon of films before, during and after owning Panerai watches?

I propose a popcorn session in Shoutbox, when we all go to Blockbuster, and synchronise view on our DVDs:

    Daylight

    After the Sunset

    Elizabethtown

    Bridget Jones' Diary

    Eraser

    The Transporter (1 & 2)

    Gridiron Gang

Chick flicks AND Di.ck flicks. Awesome!

  16. The watch belongs to the president of Panerai USA(Phillipe Bonay) and it was on a loan for the movie.

    hxxp://forums.timezone.com/index.php?t=tree&th=527145&mid=1487859&rid=0&rev=&reveal=

Shame that the scans have been removed.. :)

    Thanks!

"Orlando nicely scratched the case while filming! :("

...yeah, well, at least it wasn't the sapphire crystal like me. <_<

(Not on the Fiddy though. I would've weed myself)

  17. Or rather, what would be the closest strap to purchase to replicate the watch he wore in Elizabethtown? My fiance's getting me a 127 for christmas, and I want it to be as close to the Orlando's watch as possible. Thanks in advance :)

  18. So what was the overall opinion about men (Or this particular man) wearing such a watch which was usually labeled as a 'woman's watch'? I have to admit, on the wrist checks, when I saw someone wearing a Santos on a rubber strap, I did think ("Isn't that a woman's watch"?) but, because I don't know a whole lot about the marque, I didn't immediately assume that it was solely a woman't watch, as I thought about how the J12 is available for both men and women, and wondered if that specific model might have been a unisex or, (because of the rubber strap) a 'Big Size', like the Planet Ocean series, a kind of 'regular size' = ladies watch, 'Big Size' = gents watch. To be honest, I thought it looked okay, and it didn't make me think anything less of the person wearing it, after all, different strokes for different folks, but it did catch my attention and make me think "Isn't that a woman's watch"?, so even to those not in the know about a certain marque, such subconscious gender distinctions clearly still kick in, and while people seeing a woman wearing a PAM might not question her sexuality, they would still likely identify the watch itself as primarily masculine (Perhaps not a Radiomir) That said, I totally agree with you about PAMs chameleon-like qualities. As you've no doubt gathered, I totally love my 111h, so much so, that I have decided to definitley build a collection of them. I might even make them my primary marque as, as cool as it is to think "I'm wearing James Bond's watch..." I'd rather be an individual, not a Bond-wannabe. The only time I forsee myself wearing an Omega now, is if I dress smartly. That's my new rule. Trousers = Omega, Jeans = Panerai. TO go back to my ramblings about the chameleon quality, as much as I love the 111h on the current toffee-colored strap, putting it onto the black strap I have just doesn't 'look right'. Which is strange, as I love the black strap on my GMT Sub, or on my Submariner, my Planet Ocean, or any other watch... All have black (or very dark grey) dials, as does the 111h, but for some reason, it just doesn't seem to go as well with black, and thinking back, the majority of PAM wrist shots I've seen, have been on straps that weren't black. That said, there is a black strap I want to get, which I've lost the URL for... It's quite a padded strap, with embossed 'pin [censored]' all over. That is a black strap which does look awesome :)

    :clap2: :clap2:

I appreciate the frankness, TeeJay. There is NOTHING wrong with thinking that, as a kind of first reaction. It's when it's something more ingrained (male watch/female watch) that it then becomes a "problem".

    Apropos to women wearing Panerais:

I suspect that there are a lot of men, even men here who said, "sure women should wear them!", who don't think we really should or that even the smaller Panerais look badly on us.

But society tells them that's uncool and unliberal to say, so they keep it to themselves.

And they would be right. *g*

Seriously, it's a no-win situation in the West for men, and it's easy for women to make a man look like a caveman, in DBR's words, as a consequence.

So knock yourselves out in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia, but take care in London or LA.

As for you becoming a Panerista, big time, I'll see you at Sssurfer's house for the Secret Initiation Ritual. Don't forget the rubber chicken!
