  1. Maybe your hometown has roadside adverts everywhere you turn. These are usually positioned in high-traffic areas in your city or town, which gets the maximum eyeballs on it, especially during rush hour.

Do watch ads annoy you? Or as a watch hobbyist, do you find yourself gawping at it, every time you pass by?

Me, I love them. And in South Florida, it's a good way to know what watch is "out there" and being flogged. :p

Here are three snaps I took around Miami.

    Breitling Chrono Evo Billboard

    breitlingbillboarded9.jpg

    Cartier Ballon Bleu Billboard

    cartierbillboardtn7.jpg

    Rolex Datejust Jfreeman-Special Billboard

    rolexbillboardxv5.jpg

...do not attempt these in moving traffic, but by all means, post some if you get a chance! :)

  2. I mean, famous rich footballer and his obnoxious wife are complete stuck-up nightmares who act as if they're better than everyone just because they have obscene amounts of money?

    Right. ;)

However, just to make the point clear, the footballer and his wife are not Roberto Carlos, who wasn't yet on the Brazil side in WC 1994. Nor was it Romario...BTW.

Now HE is a little conceited, but there's a childlike air of bumptiousness there that is hard to dislike (perhaps a tad like Maradona, who he resembles physically a bit too!). He played for a while at Miami FC, you might recall. :)

Hardly a shocker is it? ;)

BTW, Nelson Mandela was a dear, but didn't like his wife.

  3. @ vbarrett: you comment was one that I have not considered in my decision. I am fair skinned but I love the white dial on the only Gen I own. (Torre Automatic) check it out here. http://www.tanagro.com/flash_en.html

    go to time piece.

Well, as you know, fair men (and women) have it easier colourwise. We're chameleons who can choose any colour from pumpkin orange to turquoise, and it'll still look fairly good. Olive-toned people, or black people, not so much.

(However, black men and Panerais = very good combo. Rrrrr. Depends on the watch design, too)

I love your Torre Automatic! Slightly Breguet, with a hint of Patek and Cartier about it. Classy all the way, but then, I expected that from you!

  4. And also; in situations like these, I ask myself: 'What would Jesus do?'

He'd have a beer with his 12 best friends?

..He is applauded by the supporters and his teammates.. Ferguson does not agree, says it's a desperate and rash decision.

Arsenal beat Wimbledon 5-0, took the lead in the league and went on to win it this season by one point.

Ferguson more than suggested they were helped by ManU losing one of their offensive weapons to a 2-match suspension.

    Classic.

Speaking of which, one of my all-time favourite matches, and perhaps not a more thrilling one in the Premiership FOR ME was the classic Liverpool 4-3 Newcastle in the 1995-1996 season. Wow, magnificent effort all around, with players at their best.

When Stan Collymore (ex-Spurs, whom I really didn't like) scored the 4th goal, the whole pub I was in erupted in every-man-for-himself-and-women-beware hugging! To a man and mouse, we all wanted to stick it to Man United and the Magpies, who were in the chase.

  5. Vic when i grew up in UK we did not much celebrate Halloween as use it to practice our "demanding money with menices" trick or treat when i was a lad was mainly 12 to 16 yr olds wearing a mask using very thinly veiled threats, i know it was one of my main earners!

    :o

I bet you were a twoccer too!

Bomb fire night was a chance to restock Ammo.

See, I loved bonfire night. The fireworks, the Guy being lit up by the village arsonist, the smell of greasy chipolatas and saveloys being consumed by grannies remembering the Blitz. Happy days.

Back then the vilage copper had very sore hands from giving us all a slap, Now the social worker needs therapy. I miss those days.

Sniff, me too. A gentler simpler England, captured in daguerrotype. I must say you looked very handsome in your muttonchops for a punk.

Any one want to go Trick or Treating with me?

Ooh ooh pick me! I have handguns!

  6. Me and two others threw the biggest Halloween party in town 2 days ago on saturday night. The comon costumes this year were variations of Pirates for guys and slutty little almost naked girls in white lingerie and angle wings.. I thought i'd died and gone to heaven! LOL

    I love halloween

    PERV!

Thanks for the reply, Lonnie. Do you have any pics? Were the police called? What was your costume? Many questions!

You know, when I was growing up, we didn't celebrate Halloween in the UK. From what my cousins with children tell me, it's very different these days.

  7. I'm going to order this one in the near future. Please help me decide which dial color looks best.

    Thank you!

Apart from the advice given above on AR (which I agree with), depends on your complexion. My father is blond, and he looks great with either, preferring TeeJay's white-dial gift. :)

I've noticed that darker men should probably stick to the white face in the VCO.

  8. Any thoughts on this?

Click on Rima's post regarding her 6.5" wrists, as well as Slai's above.

    http://www.rwg.cc/members/index.php?showtopic=21017&hl=

Her post was INSTRUMENTAL in making me realise I too could wear a large watch, like Panerais. Well, and Ola.

It depends on body build, ultimately, DuDro. Look at my 5.7" wrists. The 44mms are perfect. The 47mms are okay. That's because I have medium sized bones, in a petite frame (height-wise. I could stand to lose the stone I gained these past 3 months...).

How would you describe your body? The taller the better, but also, if the wrist is slim but the rest of your hand and forearm is wide, you'll be fine.

  9. i was waiting for someone to mention the 232 -- it's my only DSN watch i own, and it is very nice (it will be even nicer when i get a chance to install the more accurate darker brown dial he sent me).

That personally shows a lot of after-purchase professionalism to me. He also sent me tried to make things right with me, and I appreciated it.

I just hope he's not giving Raymond the cold shoulder, because of any lingering ill-feeling.

When will you have your dial done?

don't hesitate for one second on the 232 (yes vic, i'm talking to you ;)) -- it's probably my most unique pam.

I can't wait*! It's such a covetted watch in the gen forum, as you know. That and the 249, but a prominent RWG'er convinced me that the plexiglass really is easily scratched, and those blue hands look rather tacky. I think Tourby once said the same thing.

The only detail I don't like about the 232 is the lack of exposition caseback. Ah well!

*However, I'll think I'll ask my parents for it to be my Christmas present, so I'll order it in late November. :)

  10. I remember from one of your 'wrist checks' (without a watch) that the imprint of the watch and strap was still visible on your wrist. To me, that says you're wearing the watch too tight.

And I know it, too, TeeJay! It's awful really. Sometimes I feel the circulation being cut off, so I have to loosen it. :o

Today I wore the Fiddy very loosely, and I didn't scratch or feel chafed at all...

[Edit to add] And never had such a rash develop under a watch again...

...just like you as a child.

So yeah, I have to wear my watches a bit looser from now on.

For the record, I never have problems with thinner leathers, but the Pacis and Zeugmas etc are about 5.5mm thick, yikes!

On topic, my initial thoughts were that it might have been a reaction to the chemicals in the tanning/manufacturing process. I'm intrigued that people think it might be a nickel reaction to the buckle. Not so much that it's not a possibility, but I just would have thought that the buckle wouldn't have come into close enough contact to the skin to cause a reaction, which was why my first thoughts ran to chemical reactions...

Hope it gets worked out :)

    Thanks, TeeJay!

I have heard of people being electromagnetically repellant to watches, so I guess I personally lucked out. :)

Not sure about Chieftang though! :p

  11. I was curious about RC nothing more, given your "extreme" opinion. But if you're like this, I'll happily go back to being indifferent on the subject.

For the record, it wasn't a promotional dinner.

It was a dinner given by the Brazilian Consulate, to which Mario Zagallo had veto over the guest list, and several people were invited who live in South Florida, because he grew up with them or knew him. My father having been one, need I mention. They were at Catholic boys school together in Rio, although Zagallo was obviously older. BTW, Zagallo is a very nice person. VERY nice.

When I say all this, I am aware that I am letting go of a confidence which if my parents knew I was spewing on a rep watch forum, they would be extremely disappointed in me.

For example, there is a member of the WC 1994 Brazil side who almost everyone here who is a football fan knows by name. He and his wife invited my parents and I to their lovely home in Rio, and we had a pleasant time together, with mutual friends.

But actually, you know, he's very arrogant, and his wife is worse. She's impossible, and treats her servants like mud. How can you expect me to actually give you anecdotes about this without betraying the kindness he and his wife gave us in their home?

I can't. I'm not a journalist who can pretend to turn off my acquaintanceship to broadcast my opinions of people, based on specific encounters.

That's why I went with Brazilian media at first. Then I got into hot water in the thread because you will not give up, even with the slightest point, and I had to come up with the goods.

Half-way writing it, I erased what I witnessed, since it was a step too far.

I guess this is a lesson for me. When I give you a reason, I'll just say it's an opinion and leave it at that, DBR. Sorry.

  12. Hey vbarrett, yours sounds much like the same thing.

Winter is coming and thus dryer skin as well.

    Thanks, Tootall!

In my case, since I recently came from a battery of allergy exams, having gone through my "infamous" lotion rash over a fortnight ago, I was tested for allergies to nickle, etc. (having mentioned my watch hobby to my dermatologist/immunologist) and it came up negative.

I also have irritation on the upper side of the wrist, which suggests to me I wear my watches too tight as it's chafing there too.

However, good advice overall from all who replied. :)

  13. Not quite. So I'm some dumb sheep now am I? :brow:

I don't know. I'd like to think not. I'm sure not. But that was the equivalent of me citing the Hutton Inquiry, and asking you to believe everything there as fact.

What, you think I should ramble on about some nutty conspiracy theory instead?? Frankly I couldn't give a Brazilian overbite what "really happened that night"....all I know is that Brazil choked (not for the first or, indeed, last time), didn't mark Zidane on corners and France were worthy winners. Anything else is immaterial.

It's difficult to know how to respond to you.

You ask how a player is, after someone has come down heavily about his personality, never having met him yourself. You encounter a person with first-hand knowledge, when prompted about how she knows that, and you dismiss it or look on askance about it.

If you asked me about Zlatan, about Cristiano Ronaldo, about Landon Donovan, I couldn't tell you a thing about their personalities.

But here you are, hearing about someone who met the core group of players of the Brazil National Side (and their families) on many occasions, at times with great informality, with a long family tradition of acquaintanceship with their national side. What else can one say?

  14. Is this considered a Unisex watch? I'm thinking a black one for me and a white one for the wife for X-Mas.

On the Mid-Week Wristies I'll be debuting the Chanel J12 Superleggera I have, which is considered the "male" version in black with a skunk stripe. Very dashing...

(Okay, so I don't like it, and my father balked at wearing it BUT I'm not going to sell it. It's my baby now)

  15. My boyfriend went as some rocker from AC/DC I think. Bought a kiddie guitar from Toys'r'Us and everything. :p

Did you guys attend any Halloween parties this weekend? See any scary films?

The most I did was pass by the condo Halloween Party (held in the reception hall every year for the kiddies, since there's a strict "No knocking on doors" policy), and as I passed by, they asked me if I wanted to take up a tray of cheese whiz and crackers, plus some Red Stripe beer.

    Who wouldn't!

  16. Dear All:

Anyone have contact DSN Recently? I tried to contact him from last week 24th Oct.,2007; 3 emails already send but can't recieved any reply from DSN. Anyone know what happen with him? He's busy on something or on vocation? <_<

Davidsen...has strange silences. Sometimes he simply won't reply to a question you pose him. Not sure why. I put it to his being artistically temperamental, as I don't think there's malice involved.

My last communication was about a month ago, so I'm afraid I cannot help you, my dear Raymond. :(
