  1. This is why Rolexes aren't even in the options.

Ah, but you did have an option "Other watches from my collection" for which we could specify. Technically, it might've been a consideration.

P.S.: OOH! One of the choices has inched ahead! Meanwhile the other one seems be have pulled up lame. This is better than the Derby.

  2. It's a Gen, it's on my short list, and there are more than one of us bidding on it.

Interesting. I'm guessing you guys will just switch the dial (talk about Gaytona), and probably buy a gen gold bracelet, or even keep it as is.

Buy It Now is at US $11,295.00, so I'm guessing the reserve is in the region of U$11k. Not bad for real 18 karat gold.

  3. Would you rather believe we're timid shitevoles, scrabbling round pretending we went to the moon? If so, I pity you.

Hello? Did I completely misread people in this thread? I thought Lord Rasta and others were genuinely being funny. Of course we went to the moon.

    ...God, I hate conspiracy theories.

  4. At first it felt a bit like rubber when mounting straight out of the rubber envelope, but after spending a couple of nights on the spinning-bike at the gym, it got better and better. Now it has the nice leather structure, but not to disstressed. If anybody is still considering to buy a black leather for the 111H, stop searching and give BOB a PM...!

Heh. I loved your "swearin in church" analogy. ;)

I am not fond of Bob straps, it's true. I bought a Bob chocolate for only USD20 after hearing rave reviews on RWG. I took it out and exactly like you, found it cheap and stiff compared to e.g. the Fiero.

BUT I will take your advice! Good stuff about the gyro bike. We got one at our gym downstairs, so I'll give it a go. :)

  5. You are not alone... I don't like Gregs straps either.. :)

Please, someone keep repeating this every time I look at the Risti Accessories Corner.

Since Greg is no longer going to make my favourite strap, the Crazy Horse, having run out of hide, they are now commanding OUTRAGEOUS prices.

I almost bid on two last night...and I already have 3...help...

  6. :animal_rooster:

I love Six in a Bed Footballer romps!

Check this goal from a goalkeeper. Makes Beckham's half way effort seem almost tame... :p

    Fantastic. :)

Something about goals not coming from open play doesn't seem right to me though, for whatever reason.

Here's controversial loudmouth, and legendary Paraguay goalie, Jos

  7. Miami are 0 from 7 this season...it's not looking bright for them

    Dude, we SUCK.

But we always turn it up a notch against New York teams, for some reason.

I went to the World Bowl final once, it was pretty cool except for the fact that when the game stopped to show the ads in the US in the stadium we only one ad over, and over, and over again. For two hours.

    Nice!

My ex (British) boyfriend was into the NFL, and would go to one of the few pubs in Oxfordshire who would show NFL games. Me, I prefer Canadian football. GO ARGOS!

And two hours of "You can't get better than a Kwik Fit Fitter" can really begin to grate...

Oooh, sounds ghastly. Like almost two hours of John Motson calling a match...

  8. Makes sense... especially the pics! They look great.! But, still, boxes etc don't do much for me personally, even though I just buy reps for me because I love watches and tinkering needed to get them just right, not to impress anyone...but, I suppose I see the logic. Thx.

HAH! I bet you anything, jmt, if Corgi hadn't posted his gorgeous photos that you were insinuating this:

That people who want the whole kit-and-caboodle of boxes and papers are really pompous poseurs who are only fooling themselves into believing they have the real things.

And you would be right!

Sure, that is the case for many. But not all. Some people like, as Corgi and watchbuff said, the completeness of the thing.

Me, I'm more hypocritical. I want the boxes so when my friends look at my watch cabinet, the more boxes they see, the less they question me about my crazy watch collection.

They are too dumbstruck to ask. :)

  9. That's a Poljot Strela, freddy333. It caught my attention a few years ago, when it was on PMWF's Top 20 list. This is a limited production (500 pieces) re-release of the 60's and 70's ratchet wheel chronographs. The originals had Swiss Valjoux 3017 movements - The update features the Poljot 3133. With a look that's reminiscent of the Rolex 4113, it's a beautiful piece. The finish and build quality are a notch above most Russians. The downsides are a mineral crystal, and the lack of a quick set date. It's priced like a rep, at about $300-400.

Avitt, I collect Poljot watches too. :)

(Just about the only thing I liked of the old Soviet Union, but they drew upon the LONG, and starred tradition of Russian timepiece makers -- I have a post on RWG coming up about that, BTW)

Not sure if you've seen my own previous Poljot Wristies, posted early October. Not nearly as beautiful as yours!

  10. Like it's some big deal that the Miami Dolphins are playing versus NY Giants at New Wembley, this Sunday.

    COME ON YOU LONDON BLITZ!

Chelsea goalie, Petr Čech, has already expressed admiration for the speed and size, and the dynamism of practise which he witnessed this week, to 24 hr. cable channel, ESPN. Cool. That should shut up the usual knee-jerk "It's not football since you play with your hands" and "rugby is better" talk right? Right.

P.S.: I for one, remember the defunct London Monarchs. Sniff.

  11. I paid my $10 and off I went. It was a good day................

How strange! He cut you a break because he didn't think you could afford another tenner? Or because he got a pang of conscience, at the last minute?

But $5-$10 is about what I pay for sizing my watches, so I think you're the one who made out like a bandit.

BTW, my mum has a jeweler in Little Havana. $2 for sizing her watches. Sometimes, the guy does it for free, if it's a quickie sizing. Can't beat that.

  12. Platini was a beautiful player....Zidane can't be described as beautiful, ........effective, clever, strong, willing etc. but not beautiful.

THANK YOU. Have people here seen Platini not just in 1 minute clips but in a whole match?? God, he was exceptional.

Again, I repeat that people tend to appreciate most what is the most recent, the ones they have judged with their own eyes. There is some validity to that, but definitely it's not what should prevail, overall.

Another thing that disturbs me is this "He didn't win it all" mentality. Well neither did Puskas, but that man could more than hold his own around Zidane. So could Cruyff, and so could Beckenbauer...all very different players, indeed.

By all means, Zizou = best European player of the past 2 decades. Best European player of the past 50 years...IMHO, no.

  13. Reservoir Dogs has to be my favorite movie writing ever...how does anyone come up with dialog like that???

I had SUCH hopes for Tarantino when he came out with that. Ah well.

Anyway, getting back to the "Top Gun" IWC:

    large2494oi4.jpg

Question: For USD15,000 do you think the watch should have a military strap and stay true to its purposes of being a military-inspired watch...or, is it too little for too much price?

(BTW, not impressed by the quality of said strap. It's fughazi)

I would hope for that amount they throw in a few straps for free. Anyone know?

  14. If any of you have never seen this movie, or another one of Kitano's movies called "Sonatine", you need to go and rent them immediately.

    :tu:

(I would also say that Infernal Affairs was better than The Departed by Scorcese, along the same lines. However, The Departed was a fine effort, certainly a lot more than that pap of a biopic which came before, The Aviator. Shiver)

One of the BIG problems I have with Tarantino, is that his Blockbuster shop clerk cinematic knowledge is such, that he references so many films in his own vision, that it makes him seem very childlike as a director.

There is a difference between, say, the late Robert Altman having been very influenced by the works of Orson Welles and Howard Hawks, to Tarantino just ripping the directors who influenced him, STRAIGHT OFF. It's like sampling in rap. Ugh.

  15. I know, I know.... way to late to post the pic's of my 177H on Fiero strap, but hope you still appreciate it... at least I do, so thank you all for your kind help with most gratitude to miss. VBarret aka Madamoiselle Strap. After reading her strap capers and a reference to a one-day 50% off offer at www.timeconnection.biz I am now the proud owner of a 177H on fiero.... Who follows?

Yay! I was sure you had bought it, though sad you stopped posting regularly soon after. Thought you were angry, Erwinner. :(

    LOOK AT THAT PATINA!

Wow, you must wear yours every day. :)

It looks like a Havana cigar rolled on the thighs of Dutch maidens.

BTW, above you see someone asking where are my carbon strap shots on the 177. I posted them, referencing you here:

It's usually $109, but it can be bought sometimes for half that. :)

  16. Oh, even if you don't like the films, you can't say they're badly made.

Slickness doesn't equal quality. If you remember my opinion on Fracture posted a few times before (because Gosling wore the IWC Porto), you'll understand I don't rate that as skill.

Let me give you an example of my opinion, so that you may see my opinions, not exactly about Tarantino.

One of the worst films I've ever seen is the Sound of Music. It was directed by Robert Wise* like the ball of sugarplum fairy pee it is. Great acting? Decent. Good dialogue? Why not. Songs? If you like showtunes, they're amongst the most memorable, by two absolute geniuses of the genre.

But overall, I am of the opinion of the late great film critic, Pauline Kael, that it should've been called the Sound of Mucus.

*Director of The Desert Rats, I want to live!, The Haunting, The Day the Earth Stood Still.

  17. Yes they do. Tell me how many of those were for dangerous career-threatening tackles? I'll tell you. Zero. Mostly for petulance, the occasional temperemental shove nothing worse. Compare that to the 11 reds from Roy Keane, the man who purposely set out to injure players he felt a grudge against. And in the case of poor Alfie Haagland, ended his career.

Wow, you're the first quasi-Irish chap I know that doesn't defend Keane. I'm impressed!

Please see my reply to the first part of your statement below.

Another fact that does not lie. Zinedine Zidane - FIFA World Player of the Year a record-equalling three times (1998, 2000, 2003).

That's because he has a duality, both on the pitch and off of it.

Have you seen him up close? If he passed you by, you'd think he was a skinny, balding nonentity whizzing by with hunched shoulders in a Member's Only type jacket. But engage him in conversation, just to say, "Good job! Love your skills", or some such, and his face transforms itself into a sweetness, a delightful charm which is as honest as a child's.

Materazzi is an idiot, and he "went" there referencing his mum or sister, it was never conclusive what he said. Pel

  18. perhaps even a Rolex or two.

I would leave off the Rolexes until the 6th month, TBH.

If those geeks, I mean! fine intellectual gentlemen around him even notice he is wearing a watch, they'll begin to wonder how such a down-to-earth guy like Puggy, can have afforded all those watches.

In the two wage-earning jobs I've ever had in my life, I played it very cool, dressed modestly, took public transport, and kept my name-dropping to an absolute minimum. I rotated exactly 3 watches, and even to the wedding of my international banking supervisor, I wore a watch she had seen before.

I was promoted twice, in short order, and it didn't raise anyone's hackles as I feel it normally would've.

Sure, Pugwash doesn't need specific advice on how to act. He's probably more than a job veteran that I am. But I'll counsel him to take it easy, nonetheless. Good jobs are hard to come by. :)

  19. Hey Vic you have been busy look at that post count!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You teased me and said I would be at 3000 after a month. WELL HAH. I purposely underposted just to prove you wrong. Bush's clock indeed.

  20. Victoria, sorry for the mistake, I'm not very good at details. I've been to your country and look forward to when I can return.

How kind, Teddy Boy. I can tell there's a certain sympathy already, without you mentioning it, by your nickname. ;)

Thanks for the additional information to you and everyone who posted in my thread.

David Yurman was an interesting suggestion, and one I had never thought of giving you (my mum is a big fan of his jewelry). If we're going that way, check out Technomarines too.
