  1. I definitely show off my timepieces, but because I live in Canada, they spend a lot of time covered under sweaters and sleeves. I like to exercise restraint when wearing them, however, because it makes them appear more 'real.' It's a pretty good tell that the guy with rolled up sleeves constantly playing with his Rolex; adjusting it and fondling it, while positioning in the direct angle of vision of anyone in the vicinity, is probably wearing a fake.

    HAH!

Well, that describes a lot of lawyers I know (specifically, they seem to be the most egregious members of this Show Off Club, in my experience), so this board might be full of attorneys. ;)

BTW, whenever I am meeting someone for the first time, I make sure my watch is visible. But then I also make sure my makeup is on perfectly, adjusting the lipstick just before, so I wasn't sure if this was a me-thing, a girl-thing, or a show-off thing.

It's a little embarrassing to admit one has this habit, Corgi, especially in Canada. :p

  2. shahwatchtl1.gif

Look at the Shah of Iran up there. He has a really sweet Rolex on his wrist, and he wants the world to know it. He's actually TWIRLING it around so that the dial shows off to its best advantage, whereas the more military-minded King Hussein has his hands at parade rest.

Is there anyone you've ever met, or who you work with who makes damn sure you know he's wearing a pricey watch?

Or maybe...you're like him or her? :p

  3. So I choose a max at $300USD

I answered the first question posed a bit loosely.

I'd like to state for the record, I have never paid more than U$250 for a watch -- and those were for my each of my parents. That is, for a non-Davidsen rep.

I would ONLY pay DSN up to U$400. And considering I have his top watch, the Fiddy, I don't ever anticipating doing that again.

Normally, it's USD85 to USD160 for a new watch. No more.

  4. Fireman_Fred is having a related issue with Silix, Bob. I promise the moment Jay emails back (since I know him better than to swamp him with emails), I will mention your issue, as well as Fred's.

I'll use "Fred" and "Bob", but if you want, you can PM another name which I promise to keep in confidence. That might solve things.

And though it's easy for "veterans" like myself (in terms of 69 soon to be 70 rep watches bought) to say this, just hang tight. Things will turn out okay, because the guy is not a scammer -- not that you were suggesting that!

He's just real slow, these days. ;(

Take heed of what Lord Rasta and Carl said, because that's absolutely right.

  5. Number one son (age 24 on 10-31) with some kind of an Omega.

It's his birthday so be nice. We have always said that it explains a lot.

WOW! Awesome. Somehow I never pictured you with a 24 y.o. son, Carl. You have young hands. ;)

Happy Birthday to your lad! I see he's inherited those most important WIS genes from you.

  6. I'm just a little worrried...

Jay takes about 2 days to reply to emails, on average, even to return customers like me.

As for the address, he won't be sending your package out any time soon (another thing with Jay, he's not fast in filling orders), so I reckon you have some wiggle room.

However, I always mention my address BEFORE or during my payment (if you get my meaning), so there is no confusion when he doesn't reply to a payment.

His operation is basically an one-man set-up, as you may know. It's not going to be super-fast -- except actually when he's shipped his package. They arrive in 4-6 days, tops. But a few situations excepting, you will get your watch.

Should he email me back, I'll give him a heads up about your situation, like I did with Aegis'.

  7. Vbarret, just like President Sarko did it with President Bush, I would like to bury the hatchet.

Additionnaly, we might run into each other in Miami as I believe you are a south floridian local.

BTW, I buried the hatchet in Bal Harbour Shops. If you see a girl covered in soil, and wearing a Fiddy, wave.

  8. Absolutely, I understand what you mean, but, at the end of the day, dealers should provide a uniform service to all their clients, not good deals for 'the Cool Kids', bad deals for the others...

What, I'm not one of the Cool Kids!

I'm the girl in a corner, shyly reading a book. Mind you I WAS Head Girl of my school, but that's just because I bribed everyone else with free Smarties.

  9. I was expecting such a reaction. I am really sorry if I offended you in any ways (though you clearly don't mind implying that I am stupid inelegant bigot: bellicosity, even when expressed eloquently is still bellicosity).I thought I was careful enough with the choice of my words to reflect my objectivity.

The broadside is aimed at all people who feel this way, not necessarily at you, Saviboy.

That doesn't help your feeling that I disrespected you, of course, but may I just say that making sweeping commentaries about a whole people you met at community college was hardly "objective" either.

Your treatise response was touchy, instead of laughing at your own, in a situation as funny as the one posted by Apey.

In fact, it reminded me of Bernard-Henri L

  10. I upgraded my membership and what changes (if any) should I see? Any way to access dealers display of goodies? B)

Well, unless you're the kind of guy that wants to see gratuitous female flesh (and who doesn't!), there is the very handy "RWG VIP" skin which you can choose as your forum skin. Look to the bottom left for that, next to screen language.

Also, you SHOULD be able to sell items on the board now, as well as to have access to all the collector's galleries, including their contact info and payment arrangements.

Another fun aspect of upgrading is that you can post in the VIP only areas, where we talk crap about non-paying members, and shoot each other with cheese-whizz in the VIP jacuzzi.

  11. Ah, french people ....

We are capable of the best like the worth ^_^

Anyway, i think that if we search in the american version of this game, we should find some delicious tv moment :p

I remember a friend of mine who studied a MBA, half in France on the other half in USA. He told me that some american students asked him if in France people have the tap water (not sure of the translation) or the electricity ......

Thanks Golfman, but this is the pick on Frenchies thread, not pick on Yanks thread. Please go there ---> :)

  12. It's all about chemistry with each collector, TeeJay, you know that. :)

Tony and I didn't hit it off, and I tried my best to chase after him (including doing as you say, contacting him via Cquot). But then I thought, he has practically the same items that Narikaa has -- and I trust the latter 100%. I didn't see the benefits for a savings of U$20 in Tony's case.

Jay is problematic, though he has sworn up and down that he checks each and every item using his staff before shipping items to me. I'm afraid that can't be the case, since how can you miss DOA watches?, but at least he's taken care of ME each time.

Again, one has to establish a rapport.

I recently dealt with Wackobirdkeeper, and am continuing my dalliance with TWP. I think I'm good for now. :)

  13. I am not saying that the French education system is perfect either. I am just saying that if I had the choice, I ll send my kids to a French (or European) middle/high school rather than to an American counterpart.

I see that the Americans and Germans who replied in the threads to which THIS was a reply exhibited more grace and a sense of comedy about themselves than you did.

Though I suppose the real moral of the story of these types of threads is that the stupid, inelegant, or incredible behaviour of the few is not a condemnation of the many, or the full story.

To think such a thing is to be a bigot.

  14. Oh yeah, you have no idea how proud I am every time you post another Pam or strap pic, V!

To think I had some input, well...aw gosh, shucks.

Awww. That's lovely. Like seeing one's child take their first baby steps!

Mind you, I think my parents and boyfriend took out a hit on you.

So, I think the Tag Mercedes is a great choice for your BF, on steel bracelet, I assume? Very sharp.

    Check it out, Reems!

    85407487uk9.jpg

Pix only just reposted it in the Wristies today, strange but true.

Andrew already said I can trade for the SS bracelet, since it comes with the cow-shaming leather rep strap instead.

As for Christmas, for myself, probably the Chopard GMT chrono, white dial/black subs (panda) on steel bracelet. TWP helped to decide, he says it's his most satisfying rep.

Ahh, I sense a theme at work in your tastes. You like panda dials. Any idea why that is?

(E.g.: I like black dials with round watches, and white dials with rectangular or square-shaped watches. Haven't figured out why yet)

For gf - a custom DateJust from Ruby, all SS, dark blue dial with arabics, smooth bezel, oyster bracelet -classic.

CLASSY but also commanding. Perfect for a medical doctor, IMHO.

Also a few nice reps for friends and family, undecided about which models.

Wow. Very generous, m'lady! May I suggest a Franck Muller Crazy Hours for some wacky relative? Their kids will love it. :)

  15. Thanks for the reply vbarrett, i was hoping my question wasn't a repost, couldn't find it in the search.

It can be tricky. Make sure you untick "search this forum only", and check out each individual forum for the marques you like. The PAM question has been asked a few times, with a lot of members giving great suggestions to each newbie. :)

$400, that opens up a large choice of watches.

Pretty much all the rep watches. :)

Well, save the ceramic, older Hublot Big Bangs or a nice IWC Cousteau Diver 2007, Cartier Santos Chrono and the like.

I can't comment on if they are worth more or less as i haven't held one of the replicas Josh or Andrew sell. But i hear they are better than the $20 ones you get in Thailand hehe. I am based in the UK. I would hope that customs don't stop them coming through to me.

Decisions decisions! It isn't easy. They all look gorgeous!

Keep Narikaa and Precious Time in mind, since they are UK-based.

Upgrading to the VIP membership will give you access to all the dealer areas, with their information and watch galleries, etc!

Also, you can PM people, but not me, since I am again at 100%. :p

Arrgh, I need to tug my forelock at Admin again...

  16. You know what, V?

You're alright in my book, thanks for the kind words.

I take people as they come, Rima, with few negative preconceived ideas. It's my saving grace. :p

And also the way I was raised...anyway, thanks!!

It feels very good to reveal a bit more of myself here.

I've been on these rep forums for 4 years now, and I can honestly say that there's never been a member quite like you (heh, I mean that in a positive way!)

You're a priceless addition to our forum, and I hope you're around a long time.

Well, I'm sorry to have to say this, but it's a Mutual Appreciation Society.

And I don't even much like cats! Being a Leo and all.

But how can I be but grateful to the person who turned me on to Panerais?

So, do you have a Christmas watch for yourself in mind?

Yessum. It's the PAM 232 from Davidsen. And hopefully, TWP's PAM 005 will come in time for Turkey Day. Gobble-gobble!

More importantly, how about YOU?? What goodies have you in mind?
