  1. Sorry V, didn't mean to step on your thread.

Oh nonono, that's not what I meant in posting it (rather to give you a link where you can see some replies to your question, in case of interest). :)

I only recently joined the forums and since you started that post before I joined it never caught my eye. At least I'm starting to think like you....which I guess is alright as long as I don't wind up buying 75 reps!!

    He says now.

  2. I've looked and read cover to cover..........but I don't see a reference for "Laphroig" in my "Idiots guide to the KamaSutra"......

Oh hey. I buy my books at Costco too!

I thought for sure it would be listed under the "Like a Frog" section.............I mean, any position that causes you to "swear like a sailor" would certainly become a Goto favorite for me.......can you elaborate?

Single malt whisky. Pride of Scotland. Queen Mum lived to 101 on it and betting the ponies.

There we go! Full circle. She wore Longines. I knew our schtick would eventually hit paydirt.

  3. In an average day, I spend hardly any time with my watches at all, other than wearing one, and occasionally glancing at the collection.

Obviously then, you must have a winder? You have the older Omega SMP which was quartz, I know, but the others all need some TLC.

If I do change straps, then maybe a few minutes doing that, then it's back to business as usual :)

YEAH RIGHT. A few minutes. You just wait until you have a wider selection, my friend, which you will quite soon. Those minutes will turn into half-hours. Emily will be right snarky. ;)

I don't really 'chop and change' much, so it is literaly a case of spending a few minutes once in a while changing the strap, and then putting it back on :) I think the most time I actually spend is taking photos and loading them for the wrist-checks

    I liked your Wristcheck today!

That said, with my PAMs, they do get treated to a few moments 'off the wrist attention time' around midnight, as that's when I wind them, and then charge the lume to last me through the night :)

    :o

You sleep with your watch on?? Even I don't do that. I'm scared of scratching or drooling on them. Oops, TMI. Sorry.

...what am I talking about? This is the guy who answered in the famous "Do you wear your watch during Sex?" thread. :p

  4. I just want a beater, but I don't want to send my $$ off and not get anything. I guess the flea market's always on option, thats the canal st equiv. of CHI, but theres that bearded lady........ I'd save like 20 bucks, but i'd have to go there and that place gives me the willies.

    Try Silix. He's got $40-60 bargains. :)

Oh and I know why you went there. First thing I checked were the Lange 1s. Nada. In fact, the whole site was extraordinarily suspicious.

From misspellings (always raises a red flag when marques are misspelt. Even Paul doesn't do that), to the fact that the watch varieties are deceptively written out. You would click on say, Franck Muller (33), and instead of 33 models, as indicated, there would be 4.

This screams scam site to me.

Actually very savvy, in a low-end kind of way. Instead of Globalreplica ripping people off for $800 for Italian movements, a quickie scam site would do better to lure people in with very small pricetags, and then beat it.

I see POTR already says they're gone baby gone...hmm.

  5. In fact, if you look at the T&C, it specifically states you're not allowed to use their internet for chatting.

I just bought myself...the exact same phone I've had for two years, a Nokia. :p

I hate change, but I DO admit I was tempted by the iPhone. But in the US, they're tied to T-Mobile, I believe. I had heard this had been unlocked, but since I wouldn't know how to do this, I demurred.

Is this review based on the iPhone finally being more common in the UK and/or Europe, or purely because you bought it? I know about the GSM "problem".

UPDATE: Ah, right. A quick Google revealed that 02 debuted the iPhone in the UK this past Friday. Sales were brisker than thought. Yay.

  6. PAM 112 from Flava Flav on Dirk SWP

    image283yq3.jpg

    Wow, what an awesome combo!

    There's usually a theme to every Wristcheck. This weekend -- 111s/112s. ;)

@TeeJay: Well, stop looking for your perfect PAM match. Gore-gee-us. BTW, there's a thread on Risti where a chap is sending out his 111 for PVD'ing. Yours is G, yes, but I think his was later. Wow, I don't think I could have the balls to send out a gen PAM to get a PVD coat...

@Maxmilian: Congrats! Serving out one's two week notice can't be easy. Be sure not to blub at the farewell party. ;)

    @Tazz: :1a:

@V: I love your 112 with that strap! Can you make me one????

@Centurion: Ooh, lovely. But like Dluddy's pic, too small too appreciate like it should be. Larger?

  7. Spoiled rich is kinda implied with "nouveau riche". I kinda infer both whenever I refer to someone or something as "South Shore." Sucks that they can't be avoided in the big city.

Psst. Comedy sketch and all, please enlighten, Desuetude -- to me South Shore means somewhere near Blackpool. The first Google hit says it's near Boston, and known as the Irish Riviera.

To me, this guy seems Italian-American from Longuyland. You know, the trademarked jerky-looking-around movements, the overuse of copulary adjectives and style of "party" clothes. Also, if he's nouveau riche, I'm Tony Soprano. :animal_rooster:

  8. FRIDAY

I really went AWOL in the MidWeek Wristchecks, so I'm making it up for the Weekend ones, BIG TIME. Get ready for a cornocupia of shots!

My newest watch, a fantasy skeletonised Alain Silberstein bought from RWG member, Waxon Waxoff. FUGLEEE! But I never met a cheap watch I didn't like.

  9. ...and don't forget my new AP tourbillon worth $280,000

One day I wish I can go to sleep and have my reps materialize as gens the next morning.. I'd never need to work another day of my life!!!

Corgi, imagine if we shared a household? We would have to Brinks Security even my knickers.

  10. There is another thread asking how many watches everyone has, so in keeping with that theme....if your reps were gens how much would the collection be worth?

Wow, Ironmarshal! You had the exact same reaction as I did, when we were talking of how many watches we had.

I posted this question, "How much are Your Reps Worth...if they were Gens?", at that time.

    http://www.rwg.cc/members/index.php?showtopic=53924

I conjectured that it's pretty easy for any of us to have $10,000 worth of reps, if they were gen watches. However, someone on another forum mistook my particular question. They thought WE each thought that's how much the watches were worth.

In my case, as I said back then, it would be an obscene total of dollars. For starters, both Corgi and I have the Patek Sky Moon which sells for $1.5m. So add that to the total of rep watches I revealed earlier...well, my neighbours must think I'm stinking rich.

    There's a larf...

  11. VB, so glad you posted this thread; I've had the same question in mind for a couple of weeks - thankfully you beat me to it, and, as usual, did so in a more eloquent manner.

Hey, Prof, thanks! Great minds think alike and fools never disagree. ;)

To add some info to the pile, my UPO is waterproof, at least according to my watchsmith, although I've yet to dive with it (I've a trusty old Casio that I use along with my dive computer). I wear both it and my 111 whilst riding my sports bike, but no watch at all when I'm climbing or cycling.

    Very interesting.

Since I have two 111s, I was thinking of putting that OEM Diver Strap I never use, and work out with that. In case something goes wrong, I won't feel devastated as I have two (well, that's the idea. I'm sure I would be fairly devastated).

After reading themuck's exploits though, I think that the new SD might just qualify as the toughest rep tool watch - may have to get myself one :g:

Hmm, I haven't read that thread very well! Let me check that out. :good:

PS - no screen touching this time, my monitor couldn't handle it last time, and shut down in a pique of electronic fuzz and swirly colours ;)

    I remember it well. ;)

  12. I have thought about my reps and riding the motorcycle. I thought the vibrations may be an issue - have worn reps, have not had problems. But then again, no Harley for me...

That's a valid concern. Bicycling or motorcycling.

FxrAndy of course, is a Harley enthusiast, and I wonder if he would say something about this? Do you wear your reps out with your Hog?

Pugwash, as mentioned, loves his bicycles, doesn't he. I'm fairly sure I saw a wristcheck of him using one of his rep watches (the UPO, IIRC) wearing his gear. How about it Pug, which one do you use?

Me, I used to rollerblade, and I have to do something about the stone in weight I have put on this year. I'm too young to be this out of shape. So next year, in one of those infamous New Year Resolutions, I am going back to blading/playing tennis/jogging, etc. which I used to do frequently before my recent family problems.

Problem is, I used to wear my plastic Nike watches or sometimes a Swiss Army one, with velcro strap. Eh. :yuk:

I don't want to go back to that again, but I'm sure I can't wear my PAMs either.

Working out/biking, always wear my Highgear digital...

Hmm, don't know that one. Pics? :)

  13. RWG member Centurion went clubbing in London, and next thing you know, his lovely Pepsi GMT was all wonky.

Now, we touched on this in that famous hunting thread, about how you can't shoot with chrono watches. It messes up the chronos.

But isn't swimming also a fairly vigourous activity for such things as rep watches? Not the gentle paddle, but the breast-stroke, and other styles can't be easy on the mechanism.

Sssurfer recently posted a photo of his PAM 050 along for a scuba dive, and people have mentioned how the uPOs are fairly hardy.

Do you have any horror stories about taking your rep watches out for some "exercise"?

    running_watches1.jpg

E.g.: Do you wear them bicycling (I'm sure Pugwash does!)? Would you play tennis or golf with the non-speciality watches, like the Tiger Woods Tag Heuer?

Which rep tool watches seem to be tougher than others?

  14. Okay, guys, please allow me to address a growing problem I have with some members. I'm a fairly frank person, and like to lay my cards out on the table so there's no doubt as to where I stand.

Those of you who follow me around, posting annoying, picky little comments about me look really bad.

You act like jilted lovers, or little chihuahuas snapping at the heels of passersby.

You look really stupid, and very unmanly, I have to say regrettably. I could not in a million years conceive my father doing such a thing to anyone -- there is a level of maturity that is quite lacking, and I've had quite enough of it.

So this is how it goes.

I'm putting certain people in my "Ignore" list. You know why? Because life is too short to deal with malcontents, idiots, and the obsessed.

I come here for fun. To add some spice to a hobby, same as the rest. I don't need this crap from anyone, just as assuredly as I don't treat anyone in this manner. I'm here for the watches and camaraderie. Full stop.

    Once again.

You're about to disappear from my universe. You never really existed for me, and you will exist less now. You're a nil in my life. I never really addressed you before, but I surely will not address you from now on.

    So there we are.

Hope we're crystal from hereonin. Thanks for your attention, guys.
