  1. Oh No.. no negatives .. just a pre-emptive disclaimer.. in case of frenzied posts.. :Jumpy: ...

LOL! Yeah, RWG seems to be full of punchy people today.

It's getting so that when you compose a post, you have to think, rethink, and think again about the littlest detail, because people seem hell bent on misconstruing what you meant.

    Screw 'em, that's what I say! ;)

    With Cape Code cloths.

  2. Just need to add.. I did not gather this info to "turn anyone in" .. but rather to seek answers to some questions on this product.. it would help to wear gloves for those who are sensitive to any type of solvent and to wash the metal that as been polished.. that's all .. not a witch hunt gang just information .. as that's what we are here for .. :D

Hmm, did I miss a reply or did someone remonstrate with you privately about this, Lanikai?

I think what you did was absolutely marvellous, and so helpful, that I would be astonished if anyone thought differently!

Thanks for doing the fingerwork for us. :)

  3. God willing, the house in UT will be done before the new year...my vacation will supremely suck otherwise...

Was it a fixer-upper? Or did you have it built for you? :)

My 'second home' is a really small one-room affair with a door made of bars that can only be opened from the outside. Does that count?

Wow, I knew our hobby was a dodgy business. I didn't think they could throw the slammer at you. ;)

  4. Since RWG is a little slow today, allow this question. :)

Do you have a second home, such as a getaway house -- beach house, or mountain cabin? Or would you like one, one day, and where?

The other day, I was watching the Travel Channel's programme on buying a second home. The episode was about a lady from Alaska who had grown up the native way, tough and hearty, roughing it.

She wanted to buy herself a small property on Trapper Lake (about 80 miles from Anchorage, apparently), and was shown three properties. At the end, she chose the one I didn't think she would, because it was a little rundown-looking.

(Immediately, obviously, I thought of our Nanuq!)

Since we had a car thread recently, why not a house one now? ;)

  5. It's interesting because the colour of the stitching in the picture looks lighter than it does in person- it's supposed to be black stitching on a Crazy Horse. I actually got an ABP horned croc strap with it, but that's been sold and was sized for 26mm lugs. I was very tempted to just leave the MP Senape on it, it's a beauty.

Mezz, you have good and EXPENSIVE tastes in straps. Very impressive that you bought the APB horned croc.

I wish it was gen! :o

Bah. We will have a gen, one day me and you, and maybe I'll suggest to Admin that we have a section for former rep-now gen owners for special Wristchecks. :p

  6. A peer group that would rip the [censored] out of anyone attempting to show off...you do realize that you're on a replica watch site, right?

This is something I've never gotten. I'm not talking specifically about anyone, but a lot of people here act as if they're unaware they have replica ROLEXES, AUDEMARS PIGUETS, and PATEK PHILIPPES on their wrists.

Hello? This is putting on airs, big time. Worse, they're replicas, which means we're cheap AND putting on airs, which equals to sleezy in many people's minds.

Down-to-earth people wear $50 Timexes, Casios, Swatches and God bless them. Nothing wrong with that. They have their tastes, and we have ours.

  7. Personaly i thing inny but just a bit, a totaly naked lady is just a totaly naked lady, a half dressed lady is an erotic tease at the worst of times.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Taint nothing wrong with being a tease. It's an art-form. ;)

FxrAndy, I notice you pull up your cardy sleeve when you take a Wristcheck. This question is for all, are you a push-up type of person?

Because I do push up my sleeves, when it gets hot, e.g. :)

  8. I'm being perfectly civil, I just have an erstwhile inability to suffer foolish and condescending talk gladly - we all have our thresholds so you can put your foot down all you like  Consider this, some things may come across as cultured and all-knowing with some your adopted countrymen who may not know any better, but you forget or neglect to realise that there are also those out there who, like the unbuttoned cuff, see right through the image projected.

With respect, I am very aware of the variety of people here. What happens is that there are ALL kinds of backgrounds in this world, some a little more unusual than others, but that doesn't mean they can't be spoken of or referred to, for fear of being mocked.

I'll leave on a final agreement though - I'll gladly move on from this type of drivel and won't post any more responses.

This second "I'll leave" worries me.

I know you had a day off the other day, and then you were swamped. I'm hoping your leaving is something along those lines. I'll be here, with open heart, and open mind, should you ever wish to exchange thoughts with me again.

  9. Back! Back! *cracks whip*

Hey. Watch it, that hurts! Alaskans are brutal!

Guys, I'm feeling a little down today. Stupid cold meds inside me make me feel drowsy and listless. Here are just some quickies, instead of my usual over-the-top display of wristchecks. :D

    WEDNESDAY AND THURSDAY

Nothing like a little sushi with my Andrew Franck Muller Curvex Crazy Hours. ;) Sorry, it's really dark in my comp room. These are older photos, too. You can still see the peeling in my palms! EDIT: Pre-empting replies, no I'm a rightie. But for Wrist-check purposes, I used my chopsticks with the left!

At the Art Deco treasure that is the Miami Beach Post Office.

  10. People actually bid on this thing too. This just further strengthens my idea that most scammers have below avg intellegence. Why show pics of the movement when it looks like no other movement on the bay? Item 220171728550

And it has a reserve, if you please!

Mind you, my mother bought a really icky salmon dial DJ, so the dial itself may not be as implausible as it used to be...but yeah, that movement. Heh.

  11. French has the same thing with "montre" for watch (literally the verb 'to show') and "horloge" for clock.

In Polish its really strange, because a "Zegar" is a clock while a "Zegarek" is a wristwatch. I don't know the official rule about this in Polish but usually you can add little endings to words to signify their smaller versions. Like "kuchnia" and "kuchenka" for stove and microwave respectively....... bizarre!

Hmm! Isn't -enk(a)/-ek the diminutive in many Slavic languages?* A Wristwatch is smaller than a clock, even a Panerai :p, so it would make sense. :)

    *I'm thinking of Kolen^ka, for Nikolai, e.g.

  12. A last word then before I disappear (for quite a while).....a famous quote in fact....it's better to say nothing and appear stupid, than the open your mouth and remove all doubt.

It never fails, DBR. Never. You constantly go for the personal, for the jugular, instead of just engaging one in simple conversation. The kind two friends would have, from opposite sides perhaps, but still without judgement or animous.

    You know, a good give-and-take?

I'm starting to put my foot down a little about this. I did so on another thread. If you can't keep it civil, then when you see a post of mine, just move on.

I say that with infinite respect and even, I confess, a little affection for you. But this chip on your shoulder is too much for me. I'm sorry.

  13. Very interesting,.... So 'Hour' and 'Watch' is the same in some languages ?

    Yes, sir. :)

It would be strange in English to say "Where did I put my Hour ?" in reference to a timepiece..

I know! It sounds so odd to our ears.

People would respond as if we had lost an hour of our day.... or our mind...

    Great insights.... Thanks !! ^_^

    One more:

"Hora" (hour) is still used in Portuguese, Spanish directly from the Latin "hora", without alteration, all through these millenia.

That's also the root for the German word for hour/watch/clock "Uhr". :)

Note, Hora is also a very old Romanian/East European dance. You dance it as if going around a clock. Not sure if that is the origin, though, but I wouldn't be surprised!

  14. Is it because we watch the time, or the timepiece watches it for us ?

    GANG WAY! PEDANT REPLYING! :p

Watch, as you know, is a contraction of Wristwatch, and before that, pocketwatch. Like bus is a contraction of the now obsolete omnibus. So yes, it is something we 'watched', hence the usage.

English is one of those languages which has a separate word for Clock and Watch. In Spanish, e.g., reloj is used interchangeably for either instrument to tell time.

Many languages do not differentiate between Hour and Watch either. I'm sure my German compadres will join in at this point.

If Watch, is Not the word in your language,.. then What is the Word,

and meaning in your tongue ? :whistling:

Being a polyglot, I'm bowing out before I dominate this thread. No one likes a smartypants. :p

  15. Well, a couple hours from now, this question will be on "page 2" of GD and long forgotten...

Hey now! Don't let one person's opinion do this to you, Anton. Your questions are great! You lubricate conversation with your questions. That's a good thing for a forum.

I don't mean to sound like, "Good boy, keep it up" condenscending, but hell yeah, keep it up!

You think I always bat 1000 with my posts? If so, then people would've replied to my Waxworks post. :p

  16. Could someone tell me how to order straps from HKTan?

I heard he doesn't really check his PMs, but when I recently sent him my good wishes for his dad's recovery, he replied fairly quickly.

    http://s32.photobucket.com/albums/d25/HKTAN1/

    Password:hktan

Also, please take his recent problems into account when ordering a strap. I ordered from him and it took well over a month to receive, and he wasn't chatty, but that's okay. It was a nice strap.

  17. Sorry flame away if you want but I find this whole 'issue' ridiculous and the worst kind of affectation.

Yes, fair enough. I mean, it's directed at Anton, but I think his question is interesting, rather than something most people actually do or think about. But ultimately a little twee.

Still, it's all a bit of fun.

Let me just say though that those who do not move in what was called "New Yorker-Nouveau Riche" circles, or Mayfair circles, or Avenue Foch circles, etc. it does seem silly because it is.

But whether or not you care, others do, and others judge you by how you are dressed. There ARE some things beyond our power to control, DBR. I'm sure you realise that.

Just try going into White's or Boodle's with a tattoo on your wrist. You won't get far.

  18. Have you ever heard of this new shirt being tailored where it's an 'exposed' cuff specifically made to show your watch?

Pretty silly, if you ask me.

    Oh God. Interno 8 shirts...

    (Pronounced in Italian, Interno Otto)

I confess I called up the London shop to inquire about getting one custom-made for my boyfriend at Christmas.

I had seen some examples at a party, hosted by a very Eurotrashy friend of mine, who surrounds herself with the Tara Parker-Tomkinsons of this world. And I'm suggestible, fashion-wise (I'm not proud to admit it).

The more I looked at the website, trying to decide which pattern, the more I realised -- wow, these shirts are gimmicky. The opposite of elegance.

  19. That's freaking nutz to pay that for a beaver tail strap. :bangin: Especially one in black.

Well, the Euro is up and the Dollar is down, so that plays a role. I couldn't agree with you more, though, TT!

What is TC selling his for??

Sadly, or perhaps good for him, he stopped selling Camille Fournets 4 years ago.

And I believe the one Estaban has was bought used from RWI, correct?

I have always wanted to work with beaver tail, but I am limited to two colors right now. Burgundy and Black. I could get a lot more colors, but I have to buy like 10 tails. Not sure if demand was that high.

Not sure it is! But given the fact that mine looks very elegant, especially for dining out, and Estaban looks absolutely mint, second-hand or not, and versatile, I wouldn't mind to see what you can do with it.

What I'm really interested in though, is your North Florida rattler strap. That was sweet.

  20. Whoa, thanks!

As I mentioned to Pugwash, what is important is not that we agree about everything. The important thing is that you sense there is INTELLIGENCE at work, not fossilised ideas and jargon in argumentation.

I hope people sense that in me, and I certainly do in others here. :)

    Exactly!

Thanks for pointing me to the right word! I know you are not used to correct your interlocutors, but I would really appreciate it if you will help me this way with my English any time.

Ack, now I feel bad, though you couldn't have been more gracious in accepting my correction. But it wasn't to correct exactly, as I don't like that. It seems petty. I remember I once wrote something fairly long in Spanish. The one word I got wrong, some person pounced all over it in what seemed very silly to me.

EDIT: I checked my ratings and I have 3 Bad Spellings given! WTF. Must've been in irony.

I don't correct spelling mistakes for that reason. We have a saying in English, Sssurfer: Don't sweat the small stuff.

    Except in Speedos.

Question: Did you see any nice diving watches at your hotel? I know your Euro goes a long way in those places, and I don't think you're King Midas -- but still!

  21. Me too, though I have none of their records... The roof the roof the rooff is on fire.... we don't need no water let the motherf***er burn, burn motherf***er burn.... that's them too, isn't it?

Hey they sound like Die Fantastischen Vier, especially "Saft":

"gib mir deinen saft ich geb dir meinen

ich geb dir meinen saft gib du mir deinen"
