I could talk about watches in movies all day and tomorrow. :)

  2. Naples FLorida...I pumped Mobil @ $3.65/gallon premium as my car can't take anything else. (or so they say <_< )

Not to rain on our own parade in the states, but I guess the oil companies figure if the EU people can pay $7-$8 dollars a gallon why can't we?

Rxus...you're thinking like an American. "It's all the corporations fault", etc.

It's not just the oil companies. The reason petrol is so high is that there are a lot of fuel taxes which EU GOVERNMENTS impose.

In the UK we have two -- fuel duties and VAT (value added tax).

The US doesn't have VAT, because each State has it's own individual tax scheme and Americans don't have bureaucracies like socialised health care to upkeep.

There were huge protests in the early 2000s with British lorry drivers angered over rising taxes. Added to the congestion charge one faces in Central London, and it's a wonder the art of motoring is alive in the old capital.

Of course, Americans can look forward to driving the G-Whizz one day, so that's nice.

P.S.: In Brazil, hailed as a marvel of independent petroleum production/hybrid ethanol autos, it costs $5 per litre to fill 'er up at the State-run Petrobras. It's easy, when you only have 1% of your population being able to afford a car.

  3. I like it how we don't assume they are some cheapie designer quartz like Jag or CK watches... but we assume that they are replicas.

Because he actually seems like he has a brain, and isn't some light-weight like Jamie Oliver! :p

Someone said it might be the Breitling Chronomat Longitude (1999 model here). Obviously not.

    image-0575.jpg

Someone else suggested it might the Avenger M1, but vintage. Is that possible? In other photos, he was very clearly wearing a Navitimer & BCE, so he is a fan of the marque.

BTW, the other watch is most certainly the Aspreys No. 8 Chrono. The band is even the same here.

  4.

No,just going with what most women think of Pams....

Sorry, Mr. 123. You're not worming yourself out of this one. :p

Most women don't even KNOW Panerai exists, let alone have a concerted opinion about them.

    I like your taste with them,Vicky....unique.... B)

    And don't you forget it!

  5. We care. Just because I don't believe in God, it doesn't make me a rapist. I resent the implication it does.

You don't need God to know what's right and what's wrong.

    I agree with that.

And sometimes one actually needs to say it, than just to put a tick below -- so I decided to speak up.

  6. Fantastic !! I bet his fingers were sore after that !!

He's a genius, the Django Reinhart of ukuleles, thanks Pugs!! :)

In the 1920s, Hawaii was all the rage. The future Duke of Windsor used to play a mean ukulele at old WWI veteran events -- and it went something like this.

  7. I quite agree. Something which does disturb me though, is the niggling suspicion that medical science could probably cure cancer already, but, the pharmaceutical bigwigs are keeping 'the cure' under wraps, because they make more money selling 'treatments', and they would by selling 'the cure'.

    I don't buy into this theory. ^_^

The three of my four grandparents I mention having died of cancer did so because they were 3-pack-a-dayers. None of their parents died of cancer. My point is, we may have seen a burgeoning of cancer because of lack of information as to what causes it, in their generation (not their case, as 2 of the 3 were physicians).

That is not the case now.

If someone doesn't know that smoking stimulates the proto-oncogenes inside all of us, they're fools.

So if the pharmaceuticals are banking on an increase or steadiness in cancer any time soon, which will keep them rolling it in like Midas, they're idiots. There's much more money to be made in cures, than not.

Else men with limp willies would never have gotten Viagra.

  8. Victoria, I really like your DSN 113 on the OEM Tantalium strap. Love it.

With the polished deployant, it wipes the floor with every other combo.

    oemtantaliumreversell9.jpg

I wore Daniels 44mm to work today and it was way too heavy I think.

    His 177h, if memory serves?

WELL. The Titanium PAMs weigh like feathers compared to the SS casebacks. If you can't take the weight of a Ti PAM, then perhaps you should really think about another watch.

I confess the DSN Fiddy is like wearing an anchor on my wrist. 4-5 hours, tops. Incredibly, I can bearly feel the 232, which is also 47mm. That's a very special watch.

    pam232pav91wristieri4.jpg

..though I know there's a good chance I'd get used to the size of the watch.

I think so too, actually. Does Daniel have a non-Titanium you can wear?

It might just not work for me, it seems as though it was hitting a pressure point on my wrist the wrong way & I got verrry sick @ work & started vomiting. What do you think the chances are? Ever had that problem?

    Never, ever.

From the moment I strapped on that 111h from Andrew, back in July, I fell utterly in love. I didn't ALLOW myself to be sick, perhaps. :)

Let me be practical instead of flippant about this, though -- try to contact an acupuncturist and ask them what could be the pressure point making you feel this way?

  9. Your sure no one is suggesting it?

    Maybe i em.

    I know...

No realy i dont, as its normal for a life form to try fight of diease...

Even if it didn't, we humans were given the capacity to create alternate worlds in other parts of this Universe, given our imaginations, intelligence and motor skills.

I don't know if humans are the crowning creation of God, of evolution, whatever you want to call it. And every time I wake up and see this beautiful world, my eyes water at its majesty -- hoping it'll last for millions of years more, long after I'm turned to dust.

But I do know that between Gaia, animals and humans, my hopes are with humans.

EDIT: Heh. I read what I wrote and rolled my own eyes. Now you know why my English tutor once called my prose "Arabic". :p

  10. the original poster wrote he got this request from PT...I suppose he was in contact or by PM or by e-mail with PT...only if his account was hijacked it could be that the money was sent to somebody else...

    My point.

How do we know it's not a rogue employee of PT, etc.

At this point, wouldn't it be grand if PT himself came to this thread, and re-assured people it was he, and all is well? Then, if someone else asks this question, we can point to the evidence from the horse's mouth, as it were.

@Seadweller: That's all that was needed by a member. Thanks for providing that info! :)

  11. So is he the one making the buckles or does he just own a couple?

Oh! Rob-Montana? One of the few strapmakers I am lacking (the other is Adeeos).

Good question, OS. His pricing instructions are vague. It suggests these cool buckles are not included.

"Prices: My prices can vary a little depending on stitch style and leather but are usually $159 for a lug stitch and $189 for a full wrap stitch +/- depending on the detail. Note that all straps using the vintage leather are 10 dollars more due to the cost and time in preparation. This comes with tubes and a pre-v style buckle with engraving options on the buckle/strap and delivered. Again, my straps are all hand stitched using hand picked leather from Italy and various leather from the US, with the occasional hide from another country if I come across something that is as good or better. My threads are all waxed and of great quality."

Good job on the sleuthing, though. :tu:

  12. and I do agree it is a risky way to make the payment and strange for a dealer to ask to get paid this way...

    Okay, I'll say it.

    - How do we know it was Precious Time who wrote those instructions?

    - Where is this money being sent to?

    - Does anyone have a land address of PT's they can compare (privately) with Uk?

I don't wish to discombobulate our colleague, but this is very weird. Inside a DVD case indeed. Too Le Carr

  13. I had one other question relating to buying habits. How many folks amass a large number of reps, spend way too much money and than wake up one day and decide it is time to buy a gen or two in lieu of more reps. ;) Although I was a buyer of ges long before I knew anything about reps I do have to say that buying reps have caused me to buy more than one gen.

You've just described me and others to a tee.

Reps can be pretty frustrating. It's like NOT QUITE having an orgasm every time.

  14. Victoria- i think you have got it. Asprey NO 8 Chronograph. So.........where can i get a replica?

    Hehe. Thanks! :)

Alas, Timbo, I'm almost sure there are none, and there will be none. Aspreys are like Harry Winston or Tiffanys -- elite jewellers.

(In Aspreys case, they've had Royal Warrants from the Royal Family for over a century. Like Garrards)

I agree with Stormtrooper. I'm impressed he made this choice. It shows a thinking-outside-the-box attitude to timepieces, than the self-same Breitlings, or fashionista Jacob & Cos his fellow celebs have.

Also, thanks to FENDUSHI for the screengrabs!!

  15. Flaws or not.......Gorgeous

You know I think you have flawless taste, Robert. You have probably my fave rep collection here. But this Parmigiani looks like a baseball!

    baseballbv3.jpg

It reminds me of the bad reps of the Breitling Flying B.

    breitlingflyingbwo6.jpg

Samurai, TO ME, it looks fake. Parmigiani have very delicate details, and I have yet to see a good rep of one. I've had my eye on Trusty and Josh's site for a while, for one.
