  1. I'd like to see more group buys...organized "institutionally" by RWG.

Those make me a little nervous for some reason. But good idea.

I once asked why RWG didn't have more raffles, and I was told watches were donations from collectors. Both RWI and Repgeeks have frequent raffles, though; in fact, currently having one now at each site. It really makes things more exciting and cosy because of it. That would be my suggestion.

  2. Don't let his ex-salary fool you. Millions of dollars disappear pretty quick when it's overspent & mismanaged.

The sentence was too light. For that scale of animal cruelty, and his repeated propensity for doing so, it should have been a minimum of five years. 23 months is a joke, considering he'll probably be out in less that half of that.

    Yes. Mind, his raison d'

  3. WOW, out of nowhere Angus just posted a pretty decent replica - my prayers were answered?

    What say you?

    Sale Post

That's incredible! I only just linked to this post in another Breguet thread yesterday to Ericw:

    http://www.rwg.cc/members/index.php?s=&amp...st&p=370725

Suddenly Angus posts the exact same watch today?

Well, to answer your question Dluddy -- the black one looks phenomenal but do you want the 7750 movement for US$328 not including shipping? -_-

@X: Quite so. It really is all up to each person, about how much they want this rep watch. :)

  4. How much does it cost to get "supporter" status, and then how long does it last?

It used to be U$30, but last time I saw it was in Euros now (30 Euro). And it lasts you a full year. In your "My controls" area you will see your subscription info, including expiration date.

George is a cool guy but with his own view of the world. I quite like him. :)

UPDATE: Hmm. Just this last week, I checked it and it gave me the expiration date and everything. Just now it says to contact the Administrator.

"Please contact a member of the administrative team for details on how to upgrade your membership."

It was under "Purchase Paid Subscriptions", towards the bottom under Options.

So, jj69, contact any of the Mods for info. :)

UPDATE 12:32 AM: The section is back to normal for me now.

"Details of the package that you are currently subscribed to."

Starts with a member ID, start date, end date, what you paid, etc.

  5. I'd like to know how to become an RWG supporter. I've been here for a little over a year and I just realized it was necessary to do this in order to sell in the Trading Zone. The sticky in the Trading Zone says to "PM the Admin," but his Inbox is full.

    Any suggestions?

He's just been very busy these days. It's usually not full, so just keep trying. Don't let a momentary thing stop ya. Been trying to reach him myself, so I just sent an email instead. Another suggestion. :)

It's awesome that you want to contribute though!

  6. Ive loomed around here quite a bit but have yet to post, so this in number one for me.

I have searched this as well as other forums and cant seem to find any comment on this one...

    http://www.trustytime88.com/index.php?main...roducts_id=1967

It has the reliable lemania movement and looks fairly accurate.

Hey Eric. I see where you say it looks fairly accurate, but I went to the Breguet site just now, to compare -- couldn't see the watch on which this rep was inspired by.

However, that means nothing because they can't place all the watches under their label.

    I did find this one:

    hxxp://watchismo.blogspot.com/2007_07_01_archive.html

    breguethdmx8.jpg

And this one, the Classique Grande Complication 1869, which comes closest to the one you picture from Trusty:

    breguetmoonphasess1.jpg

    From here: hxxp://www.gemnation.com/watches/Breguet-Classique-Grande-Complication-1869.html

Looks nice overall, but just not sure if there's a gen equivalent. Maybe Narikaa knows more about these (I got my 1801 from him).

    302772-1204.jpg

P.S.: Dluddy posted this a while ago about the Breguet Type XX Ref 3800. Aeronale Flyback Chronograph. Yours resembles it a bit. So far, no rep of it.

  7. I didn't ask for any specifics I just ordered the pam111H,

I hope this means I get what he calls the "ultimate pam111H".

    So now I wait....

Anyway, thanks for all your experiences, it has been a great help!

    Hey Bjornhulst, wassup. :)

I have found that if you don't EXACTLY mention things to Davidsen, he'll send you potluck.

So if you want something specific, like colour of straps, texture of straps (buffalo etc.), plus to go over with a list of details you feel are very important (engraving on bridges if any, crown guard tight), it's VERY VERY important to do so with DSN.

It's not too late. I would send him an email before he sends the PAM 111h out to you, probably very soon indeed.

Check out RCHK's threads in this Panerai subforum to see what MIGHT happen, if not. Happened to me too.

    Reference: http://www.rwg.cc/members/index.php?showtopic=54015

    Good luck though!

  8. After a long time without a new watch I decided to get an unbranded cali dial with genuine Swiss ETA movement cdg decoration (of course no panerai markings anywhere but the caseback where I will replace soon)

Wow, I almost missed this post. V, beautiful watch, truly. It's exactly what I wanted, yet another eerie coincidence between you and me.

Now I need straps for this..

For a change of pace, the second one. But not sure you saw Simona is having a (pre-made) Christmas strap sale?

    hxxp://www.network54.com/Forum/353393/thread/1196974723/last-1197151962/Closing+for+a+month%2C+Christmas+sale%2C+special+prices

She's closing down for a month, so those of you who like her straps, take advantage. I bought this strap for the 249 I plan to get one day:

    Blue.jpg

I know you like reddish straps, as I do!, but this would love lovely with your new Cali-type dial. :tu:

If not, the Vacchetta Anticata is phenomenal:

  9. @Vic: good to see you also do 'girlie' wristshots;) They look great and very feminine! Yes, I know I'm a bit conservative, hahaha.

Heh, no worries, Scoobs. You have an honest way of saying that that doesn't sound too sexist. ;) Anyway, I know you appreciate a lot of the watches I show, and I am grateful for all the gracious comments!

BTW, speaking of conservative, I was going to go to the Republican Presidential Candidates' Debate held last night at the University of Miami, but couldn't get tickets. It was in the Spanish-language for Univision, so you can imagine, all of Miami wanted to go there.

My hope was to wear one of the Panerai and sit near a camera. If you guys spotted it, you spotted it. If not...well, next time maybe. :)

@Interested1956: Can't wait to see your watches! BTW, as Christmas comes closer, I'll be much more busy, but the Wristchecks I'll always do.

@Interested1956: Not too sure you're aware of this, but your postings sometimes appear with a quote and no reply. :(

  10. Well Vic since you don't have a pricey HBB and don't know how to fix it, RCHK' method while well intentioned, shows

those white bulging band aids should you turn your wrist over. I know because I tried, and it looks like crap. Using my

proven to be reliable common sense, I tried the aforementioned technique. Thanks a heapload for your suggestion.

My other solution was going to be Skippy peanut butter. Try that and give us a shout if it works.

  11. Great thread idea, UB7! My cream of the crop of 2007:

  12. I believe I am receiving Andrew's steel stick marker triple register chrono Navitimer for a holiday gift- but I think it will have a steel bracelet. Any ideas about where I can score a black leather, white stitched, NON-deploymant strap? I own a Gen tan with logo buckle strap, but I really want black. I found a couple on the trusted dealer's sites, but they are too much $ including shipping to the U.S. Any ideas? Thank you and best regards, Arty

Almost missed this, as I shut down the comp.

    http://www.internationalwatchman.com/home.html

Both Doc-Bearcat and TWP recommend that site. Speak to Ron, and tell them about those two gentlemen. It's usually off-limits to non-retailers.

    Specifically:

    http://www.internationalwatchman.com/sport.html

    "Breitling Leather

    MSRP $19.95

    Our Price $6.00"

$6? Please. Today that's highway robbery. Good luck, Arty!

    :tu:

    - when I compare dial pics of the 21j-version (By-Tor/Stephane) and mine, theirs look a bit more silvery and 'sparkly', while mine look between silver and champagne/yellowish and less 'sparkly'.

I read you went to an AD, but when I held a gen Yachtie in my hands, it more closely resembled what you have above. More "champagne" than silvery-sparkly.

    It did sparkle though.

  14. Victoria, I believe you hold the record for most actual "wrist" shots on the forum...how do you do it? Do you have a camera on you at all times or does your camera phone just take amazing photos? :o

These shots take literally 15 minutes to shoot, since I have the sequence down to a science. You can tell by the time lapse on the watches. :)

I discussed my camera in last week's SOTTWW. It does all the work for me. Highly recommended camera, Bruce.

    http://www.rwg.cc/members/index.php?s=&amp...st&p=366903

    Thanks for the compliment!

  15. I point the honourable lady to her Jewish Men imparting knowledge to Chinese Women statement. They have to start somewhere and that means opening design schools. The short-cut is to hire experienced designers and seeing as we've already established they have no history of this, where would you suggest they get it? Spend generations learning from scratch or taking a short cut by hiring westerners?I am arrogant. I get it from being right almost all of the time.

Understood, but when I said innovation, I meant it.

There are a lot of things still to be invented, imagined, discovered. Westerners have absolutely pwned the East in the past 500 years. It's time for a little payback.

How about starting with hydrogen fuel cells which will make petroleum obsolete? That's something which an ORIGINAL mind can come up with, not one which can hire Westerners to do 90% of the mental gymnastics for them.

They can surely do it. So, we wait.

But something tells me it's going to be a Westerner who cracks that, and there we go again. Like the internet, the newest world-stupefying innovation will come from us. It's boring.

  16. You say that as if that's what they should be doing. How do you know that Chinese industry isn't quite happy to be the world's factory?

Because humans like innovation too much. If they could, they would. In Med School, there used to be a saying: biology departments around the world are filled with old Jewish men imparting knowledge to young Chinese women.

You'll note, it's not the other way around. It never is.

If the Chinese really wanted to compete, they could do so exceedingly easy: hire a western industrial design team (poach some seriously respected designers with godlike salaries) and just take over, market segment by market segment. Refuse to make goods for foreign companies or companies without Chinese part-ownership.

We had a similar conversation on RWI. In fact, it was one of the deeper threads in that forum.

I seem to recall telling you that this "hire western industrial design team" STILL means they cannot come up with original ideas without prompting from western minds. Why, I wonder? They're not dumb, for chrissakes. Much on the contrary.

It really is that easy and the fact they haven't done it shows that they have no ambitions to really beat us at our own game. They have their own game and serving their internal market seems to have more value to them than working for export.

The Japanese tried to beat us at our own game, and they came damn close. But some car makes, Sony, and wowza electronics later, and they're not close to being as dominant as they were predicted to have been, in the 80s.

It seems the counterfeit market is more of an afterthought.

    Could be.

It's also a quick fix. First get the money, then start the innovation. That's my hope, anyway.

And yes, intellectual property law is in a complete mess and I'm not sure LV should have lost this one. We're morally and ethically wrong to collect counterfeit goods and we need to remember that. We are helping organised crime (no, not terrorism) and we are taking money out of the pockets of real live people in the western world. Don't hide behind moral indignation of corporate culture. We're not Robin Hood and the sooner we disabuse ourselves of that notion the better.

Err, okay. Thank God you said it, because from my lips it would've sounded arrogant. Doesn't make it any less right though.

  17. I don't see this ruling as solely positive.. You might think me hypocritical, but the watering down of high-end brands like LV/Gucci/DG and whatever bothers me some. In a small town in Norway you'll see old working class women carrying LV bags and wearing a Burberry scarf getting on a bus.. Of course it MIGHT be real, but chances are they got it from someone who spent 2 weeks in Turkey/Thailand/Wherever. It just gets too common.

Are you being ironic or trying to pry the snobbish from their under rocks? :p

I cannot believe this is the fisherman's son who hates the rich suburbanites of Oslo, talking!

I like status symbols, the envious looks and the side-poke "hey, check out the watch/bag/car!" people give eachother when one of THOSE pass by. The influx of fake goods takes away a bit of the allure and wow-factor of these things.

I'm not one to spend a lot money on luxury items, but I like thinking you can wear or use them without people automatically thinking/knowing they are fake.

As I said, I too have conflicting views actually rather similar to yours. Many angles to the views, at that.

1- I don't like Chinese people or whatever people just copying stuff or backwards engineering goods, rather than coming up with their own ideas. It's intellectually stunting for them, and they will never catch up to the West like this.

2- OTOH, I like blue collar folk being able to have a dream and being able to own a "piece of the pie". Why not indeed.

3- I hate copyright infringement and intellectual property theft, even if I download mp3s, etc. There's something unsporting about it that bugs me. If the international community REALLY cracked down on piracy, I'd be okay with that.

4- I like beating the system.

    It's a conflicting topic, Ape. :)

    TUESDAY

Guys seemed to like the Nantucket watch, so I'm busting out another pink watch, this time, the Salmon MOP Rolex Datejust.

    rolliedjpinkwristie00bs4.jpg

I have a light blue DJ coming, just like Nigella Lawson's. That's Kate Winslet's lips, below, though. ;)

    rolliedjpinkdeployant20oa0.jpg

A lot of you guys in the 3 forums have PMed me asking for shots of this watch. Hope you can show it to your ladies and see if they like it for Christmas. Maybe less bling? :o:victory:
