  1. My big problem: None of the websites here and there mentioned

am i able to enter, e.g. perfectclones, the pc-1080 (?), precioustime, etc.

Only kings site works, but htats not her fault, i guess.

I'm using firefox on a vista home premium machine and get only servertimeouts

    on these sites...

    Anybody has a tip?

    Andr

  2. I just watched a 4 minute trailer on Msn. I feel sick already

    Just finished watching it.

Was fully prepared to disagree with Lord Rasta, but guess what? It was awful.

After the millionth "ROB ROB ROB!!", I just didn't care about the characters enough to be concerned about their welfare. Someone mentioned the camcorder's battery -- it certainly wasn't a Sony, because the film would've taken even less than 1:13...

After 9/11, these scenes of mayhem in Manhattan just don't ring true anymore. There is a deathly silence that comes over people in extremis, not shouting and carrying on.

    A very annoying film. <_<

  3. Following a rather stupid accident (stepping on an upturned electrical plug barefoot)

I was one day away from PMing you, since I noticed you were very quiet these days. Oh dear, how awful, TeeJay. Feel better!

I'll get some fresh shots once I track down the camera :)

I guess no crossed-legs poses for a while...I like that shot.

All these Rolexes are giving me hives though. Just for that, I'm back on the Casio.

@UB7 below: AWW. So cute! What watch is he rocking? ;)

@Sharpie: Perfect photo of the duo!

  4. I literally JUST heard, upon turning on MSNBC. Unlike the Anna Nicole Smith death (which I confess, also shocked me, but in a different way), this was COMPLETELY unexpected. :(

I thought the last role I saw him in, in Candy, was awful. Casanova the same. Frankly, I thought he was a minor actor -- but he was unrecognisably good in Brokeback, and pithy in First Knight. Overall, he seemed like all Australians, just a down-to-earth, sweet guy.

RIP...I feel very sorry for his little daughter with Michelle Williams.

@CBR below: Wow, that is freaky. Reminds of that scene in Stone's JFK, where the Sutherland character was saying that Aussie newspapers had a full-background story on Oswald moments after the story broke.

Wow, really sweet "Large Notes" portfolio! I have a passion for these. I have an LV one which I could take a photo of, later. :)

I think it's hard to price, unless you're willing to call your local Mont Blanc boutique (which I suggest you do). This online "Beverly Hills" shop lists a much lesser version at "Regular price: $400.00".

    http://www.beverlyhillsluggage.com/momepo.html

    So conservatively, I'd suggest 500USD.

Of course, they do have reps of this available (here is a black version from Brazil -- ! --): http://picasaweb.google.com/Doctor.Fontana...015877033485202

P.S.: Oddly, I just gave advice on pricing a pair of opera glasses, elsewhere. Antique Roadshows anyone?

    @V: That's great! Your dad-in-law sounds like a generous chap. :)

  6. I've got a very smal wrist (16 cm),

    Googlecalculatorisyourfriend.

    6.2992126 inches. ;)

(There is a thread where men here are comparing to see who has the smallest wrist size. I beat all of you, pff!)

BTW, Thijs, I'm not a fan of Audi, but I do agree with what you say about it. IWC is stylish and yet restrained, just like an Audi. It's a singularly beautiful marque, and you couldn't have made a better choice.

One thing I do notice, is that a lot of us here start our rep watch careers getting these high-powered marques: my very first rep watch was a Patek Philippe. Yours is an IWC. Hardly Rolex-Heaven.

It's nice to dream, without paying a fortune, even if the Euro IS favourable. Good luck! ;)

  7. Cheers azerbyjam!!! Will check it out.........:)

Another British-based merchant to consider, is forum regular Narikaa.

He deals in lower-priced reps, but his items are never drop-shipped (a common complaint in this business, so don't be surprised. It means that you get a rep watch which was never seen by the dealer, but sent straight on from the factory/depot). Contact him and others by simple Private Message.

Another good idea is to acquaint yourself with the terms of the rep watch hobby. :)

Here is a Wiki article compiled by members to help you along.

Many kind regards from an expat living in America!

  8. Okay, what is up with Daytonas in film? Everywhere I turn, whoopthereitis.

I'm telling you...unbelievable. It's the prop watch of CHOICE!

Check out the Paul Newman as worn by JASON BATEMAN (hello, 80s hearthrob) in the wry, hip teen comedy "Juno".

It's a smart film which I think you will like, if you haven't seen it yet. It was just nominated for several Oscars today. :)

  9. We all know how much politicians are influenced by payola. Let's hope the writeups/reviews are not ;). This I put out there (with all due respect) as just food for thought...........

I think By-Tor's reviews are above reproach, for one. He gives you the good and bad of every watch he reviews.

    So does Pix, etc.

And frequently, members review each other's items where merchant provenance is never mentioned. I don't mean this harshly, but there is such a thing as being too cynical, with respect.

  10. 3. When they refer to a "power reserve" is that the power built up by the movement? How much power will build up? When will my watch stop working- after sitting ideal 12hrs, 24hrs.?

Correct. E.G.: The "8 Days" Panerai has an 8 day power reserve. Like the Lange models, you can actually see it "count down" to let you know how much time you have left.

But, Mseanschmidt...I am reminded vaguely I PMed you -- and you replied. I hope I answered you, as I recall it was before RWG was upgraded!

If not, please let me know what it was you needed. :)

  11. I could be way off base with this... I've been wrong before... but this is my thought for the month (It hurts to have two!)

    :p

On the one hand, By-Tor's reviews, Pugwash's reviews or Pix' reviews of their watches makes me WANT TO BUY a watch, sometimes even one I never thought of previously.

On the other, if it is true what you say, and we are exploring the topic -- we come again to the problem that some people expect these Chinese businessmen/women from not behaving like any other businessman.

Of course high-demand items will remain high-priced longer. That's the whole point of the free market system. I don't see anything wrong with that, honestly I don't. I wish someone would sit down with me, and tell me why they think this shouldn't be. It's mindboggling. It's like folks expect merchants to OWE us cheaper watches, somehow.

Guessing it's some kind of psychological component that a rep watch shouldn't be outlandishly priced, seeing it's already a copy. It smacks of unfair play, is that it?

I think the forum reviews are invaluable from sorting out the good from the bad watches. And they prevent many a person from buying a "version" of a watch, until it comes out. It's like buying a watch yourself, by reading a review and determining if you like it or not.

E.G.: Several excellent reviews on, and I still haven't bought my dad or boyfriend a "Super" Sea Dweller.

What a STUNNING romantic photo. I can feel the log fire and the champagne on ice from here.

@Scoobs: Thanks! I like the idea of the two-toned strap Raymond mentioned, though I'm sure it's just a lovely mocha brown. :tu:

    @Ylfig: Ahh, allow a tip? :)

    1- Go to Image Shack

    2- Tick/Check Resize Image

3- Choose size (640x480, or 800x600 work well)

    4- Browse to photo, upload

5- Go to the bottom to "direct url"

6- C/p link on your post

7- Use second green-button on top from left OR type [ img ] ... [ / img ] around link

    8- Good luck!

  13. I'm curious noone start a wristcheck today; Hmm....Maybe most of u are busy. So I'm here to start:

I have to be honest, without the ratings I feel less motivated with the Wristchecks. :(

    wristshotdt.jpg

    Mmm, nice, Raymond!

Some very nice wristchecks in general today. Jsmith11, that photo of your Navi World on SS is gorgeous. Ylfig, your new Ingy chrono too!

  14. Everyone likes the SS bracelet on me. In a Cuban cafe last week, the window lady brought over the other ones to show them my watch. "Mira mira!". The PAM bracelet is a show-stopper.

    pam112braceletwristiefg5.jpg

But I don't like it on me...

@Xyphis: I couldn't agree more. The 111h I have is a DIFFERENT watch visually, with the bracelet. Only reason I keep one of the two I have, on it.

  15. I just got back from my vacation at the Atlantis Resort in Nassau Bahamas.

Magnificent. That was THE "it"-place in 2007 (along with Beijing and Rio). And thanks for not going to Cuber, like so many Canadians.

“I was just admiring your watch.”

    :tu:

    Honest and true.

Best part of this holiday is that these are awesome, unusual watches to have picked up. The strap on the Hamilton is STUNNING.

    Congrats and welcome back, Jawo!
