  1. Just did myself a nice jacket potato with butter, Phillidelphia, mozarella and baked beans :yeah: Washed down with a pint of cola :thumbsupsmileyanim:B)

In the past three days, I've had Chinese, Italian, and Cuban. Here is the latter, a "dorado" (Mahi Mahi) with rice and black beans.

    mahimahikb9.jpg

They like to fry their foods too much, and I can't get used to having everything with rice. At least it's not spicey food like Mexican food, which I can't stand.

Today, I'm thinking Japanese (sashimi). :)

  2. For the hard of thinking.......suppose one of your inbound packets gets opened, seized, returned, whatever and the diligent blue shirt annotates your file on the DB. You would undoubtely be \'flagged\' everytime you appeared on an international flight manifest or trotted your wonderful ID card past a passsive reading post. So no more march thru the green channel after your hols for you #675435788998/SMUGGLER.

Ahh, I begin to understand your own rationale, Narikaa. :)

It's funny. I can GUARANTEE you there are Germans, Belgians, Brazilians, Spaniards, Greeks etc. who are reading this thread and scratching their heads.

They just do not get this Anglo-Saxon froideur against National IDs.

It's hard to explain it to them, because they were born having a National ID (even I had a Personalausweis when I was a German citizen). To them, it's as normal and as unscary as a Sunday roast is for us.

I'm against it, but a people which fears government progress and tightening restrictions is living in some dreamland. The alternatives are NOT the Wild West or Gattaca.

    Here is Hitler's Personalausweis, BTW.

Custom-made Dirk Nero (Buccaro) strap with beige stitching. Gorgeous. I mentioned it in the 005 thread, remember? :)

I loved this watch ever since I saw it on Ola. :tu:

...thanks for getting the ball rolling, HikeUSA!

  4. I was pointing out why he should have a problem with Big Brother watching him.

Understood, but in effect, he's against National IDs whether or not he's comfortable with Big Brother.

It just so happens that he is. :)

Life is funny. We all arrive at similar conclusions through very different paths.

  5. You don't have to have a guilty conscience to know this doesn't really appear to have any positive benefit for the cost.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I don't think TeeJay is in favour of National IDs?

Are we debating amongst each other, for the sake of debating, when we agree? :)

  6. Absolutely. I think, at the end of the day, the prime concern for ID cards is, not so much who's carrying them, but who's managing the information, and how. The government wants all the information stored centrally. I think that's what's known as 'putting all your eggs in one basket'

This is the Frankensteinian question we've had to contend with, since the Industrial Revolution when machines superceded men. :)

It's really not that we don't trust our goverments. It's that we are not sure of our technologies. They're scary, and seem to run away with ideas before our laws to protect us are in place. Isn't that what those who are opposed to IDs, have really been saying above?

    Oh, BTW, forgot to add:

    Post-Modern World: Superior Technology

  7. Cskent69, I can't believe I missed your thread! Great minds think alike, eh?

    And fools rarely disagree. ;)

@Demon: Thanks too! In some twisted way, I think the merchants and we enjoy the lack of exact 1:1 replicas. How boring would this hobby get if we did have them?

Just think of all the "Why is there no excitement anymore" threads we had mid-year in 2007, when the Fiddies, uPOs, and other "ultimate" watches were out.

  8. Indeed, I quite agree. Strangely enough, historically, when cultures and countries were more homogenous, there was not the 'racism' which exists now. Sure, countries/cultures might go to war with each other, but, on the occasions when the did trade with each other (Renaissance Venice, for example) there was none of the petty bigotry which exists today. People were just accepted as they were. It's a shame that today's concept of 'tollerance' doesn't take a few pointers from history's example.

Racism is a modern construct, as you know, TeeJay.

I'm not one of those people who believe that yesteryear was rosier than today, or that governments were more accomplished than the ones now. :p

I know you weren't implying the opposite, but we are far more tolerant as a species today, than EVER before.

So it wasn't racism back then, the concept that your race made you superior to others. But it was...

    Greeks/Romans: Superior Civilisation

    Middle Ages: Superior Religion

    Renaissance: Superior Culture

    Enlightenment: Superior Science

    Industrial Revolution: Superior Economy

    Victorian Era: Superior Nations

    Modern World: Superior Race

    It's always something.

  9. Can't believe no one has mentioned TMG's lovely swiss cheese strap yet. I think it's tailor-made for that Tudor!

It is an acquired taste however. At first, I was surprised. :p

TMG Below: "Dluddy actually noticed it -straps never get by you two" ...damn skimpy. :p And a compliment for sure. Is it a Rios strap like the one I showed that time?

  10. I am looking for a dark brown 21mm croc/gator style strap for a 3717. Does anyone know a good source that won't break the bank? :D

Since no one has mentioned it, the premier 3717 strapmaker is Aaron Tan, known as HKTAN on the forums.

Eunomians has had his beautiful 3717 strap done by him. From what I can see, exceptional quality though not cheap.

Not too sure one can post his email openly, but a PM to HKTAN might do the trick. Please note, he recently had some personal problems and he is already famous for being a little tardy in his strapmaking. I've been told it's worth the wait, however.

  11. Vic, have you seen Cloverfield, yet? If so, what were your thoughts?

Snuck in my opinion in the Lord Rasta thread.

    http://www.rwg.cc/members/index.php?s=&amp...st&p=390630

Didn't like it. And I WANTED to.

To make this less OT, I saw a man wearing a PAM in the cinema! I was in the concessions stand, and he was milling in the lobby. But clear as day, there was a Luminor PAM on possibly the famous Xa-Mas Vintage strap.

    277674682_58066aab09_o.jpg

My heart raced so fast when I saw it. If I ever see a Fiddy, I think I'd faint. :)

  12. As above, I wouldn't have a problem carrying ID, but I don't trust the government to manage the data properly.

As you can see, people have a problem with the efficiency of government to maintain citizen records. This is truly a first in British history, the land of bureaucratic record-keeping, and genealogy since the Domesday Book.

And goes to prove the social argument that homogeneous societies have less issues like these.

  13. Has it ever happened on RWG that a graphic designer and the membership spoke about producing a run of more accurate Panerai dials?

I mean, I know it's not easy. The cutting has to be very precise. That "12" is pesky...

But it seems to me if we wait for an accurate OP logo in say, a 005, with the right slant, or the right size, that we'll always be at the mercy of collectors. Obviously, part of the game is to sell inaccurate reps so the next (better, but not perfect) version will sell.

So why not club our resources together, and make dials for the most popular PAMs (111, 112, 127)? Then a modder could install them, etc.

Is this feasible at all? ^_^

  14. Let's have a little WIS fun, shall we?

Comparison of DSN PAM 113 movement/caseback with gen PAM 113.

    DAVIDSEN 113

    dscf6678wu4.jpg

    GEN 113

    113backrn0.jpg

1- Engraving depth on caseback decent on DSN 113. However, it's not as finely etched on the DSN.

    2- Spacing between characters wrong.

    a. "Officine" & "Panerai" should be closer together.

    b. Font on caseback engraving thinner on DSN 113.

    c. Distance between "PB" and "OP" numerals too wide, etc.

    d. Missing OP logo between Stainless Steel and Water Resistant sign (fish).

    e. 300m etched too high up.

    f. Serial number and limited edition number should not be so deeply and darkly etched, with a pronounced border surrounding them.

    3- C
