  1. Correction, 2 Cosi Grandes. In the same episode too.

    Hmmm.

Do you remember my Lidia Bastinich post? It had all kinds of watches worn by telly chefs.

There is some odd little nexus between those who cook, and those who like watches.

You just don't see musicians or other artists into watches as much as chefs. Even Tony Bourdain, whose new season debuted this week, was wearing a new Breitling. And in the same episode, another watch suspiciously like the Ebel Tarawa too...

  2. Be back with more shots, Ryyannon!

I forgot to post the best part!

To my pleasant surprise, Brent included not one but two fat, single keepers: one stitched, and one plain. That way you can choose according to your accessories, like Babola and his shoes.

Why don't other strapmakers think of this -- it's such a practical touch. :)

  3. Well, dunno what kind of message I was trying to state with this post, maybe I was just venting myself. What do u guys think about this whole thing?

    That's awful.

Can you point out some threads (xx out the urls so we don't give them trackbacks, please)?

I always wondered, for example, how that person who outted Ken's Bergie shirts, got that info. Perhaps they Googled, but it seems to me, it must be a member of this forum...

@Plaifender: Hola querido! Yes I did. Amongst other reasons, I wanted to be called by my full name, and leave "V" to the original. ;) ...como estas?

Followup: Ooh Swedish? Maybe Fitmic or Swemoose want to translate. ;)

  4. It's nice to see you posting about straps again, Vicky!

    I have a surprise when V comes back. He's my partner in strap-crime. ;)

Don't let the Blue Meanies discourage you :disguise2::pinch:

Nah, it's okay. I know Narikaa well, and though perhaps he was too abrupt, not without some truth. ;)

OH! This reminds me. Be back with more shots, Ryyannon!

  5. I like the one on the right, yes he has a couple of stiches that are not very neat, but they look good, i know i can not better that right now.

    Fair-minded as ever, FxrAndy. :good:

I like his contrast on the blur black, it would look good on the pam with blue hands i am thinking 232 regata?

Do you mean, the 253 that Reklamkillen posted? Good one!

    DSC_0087.jpg

But I also think that one would look very good on a regular black-dial PAM. Check out the similar Greg Stevens Toro Moro on my DSN 112:

    pam112tororocks1il9.jpg

The difference is that this custom-made Greg cost me almost $200.

Taste is relative. And sometimes it's inbred. ;)

And her engagement ring is custom made but based on this style:10351690.gif

Not too shabby! At least, unusual in design. I hope you're not buying retail...

BTW, #2 is, in fact, an Omega.

Quite so, but the PO is a marque unto itself in my mind. I meant more like an SMP. :)

And I guess the Assioma is a bit fey; but I thought it was the least fruity of the Bvlgaris I've seen. Wouldn't do gold.

    Good call on the gold.

Have you seen the Diagono? I have two gens of that, and they are fairly unisex.

    Here's Trusty's versions:

  7. It seems a pair of enterprising elderly New Yorkers came up with an interesting scam. One of their roommates had just died with an uncashed Social Security check in the mailbox. Not wanting the money to be unclaimed, and possibly living on a fixed income, one of the gents tried to cash the deceased's check at the local check cashing parlor. Unfortunately, the proprietor wouldn't cash the check without seeing the person to whom it was issued. Not a problem. They put the dead guy in an office chair, and wheeled him back down the street to cash the check, apparantly hoping that the proprietor wouldn't notice that THE GUY WAS DEAD. One of New York's Finest, enjoying a meal in a restaurant, noticed this unusual behavior and called his buddies at the local precinct, and the alleged scam artists were arrested. It just goes to show you what some folks will do to get their hands on a couple bucks. I wonder what they were charged with.

You mean, "Weekend at Bernie's" wasn't real? :(

  8. I will agree that the hides look a lot more exciting than the stitching... But perhaps his skillz have improved now that he has done a few. The one hanging over the tree branch looks better.

I don't know how long he's been doing it for (we've exchanged 2 PMs and 2 emails, total, and has disappeared), but the strap I received was very proficient for the price.

    That's the key, THE PRICE.

For people who complain about TC this, and the exorbitant prices of Panerai straps that, which START at $200, one is a fool to think this isn't a decent alternative.

Sometimes I don't say anything, but the straps offered on these forums are not quite good. But these are amateurs, whose straps number in the dozens, not hundreds. I'll take a strap from them ANY day over a Simona or MF, because it's just for you.

  9. 1) Ice Bang Lite (with an AR job in its future)

    2) UPO Black/White with bracelet+rubber strap (Mr. Bond's Omeeega)

    3) Panerai (something big on thick brown leather with a sandwich dial--I like the 1950 but it might be too rare to be realistic)

Perfect "small" collection. No Omegas though?

    Bvlgari Assimo,

Not the Assioma, please. At least not in gold. With respect, it looks too flamboyant and gay.

    Peace Offering:

My girl is not into watches, jewelry, or name brands (she likes her Forever 21 jeans better than her Rock&Republics) but her friends will notice a fancy timepiece for sure. Her watch needs to look good on a tiny wrist, look good with trendy jeanswear, and look "real" as possible.

Smart move. My boyfriend isn't into watches either..., but he lets me speak about them, whenever I want. Seems like a lot of partners here don't -- that's sad. :(

    1) Hermes, Cartier, Montblanc, Bvlgari, ?

ZainoDetail recently asked this question. Here is my reply. For your convenience, here it is for you!

"I recently bought Narikaa's (fast depleting stock of) Tag Heuer with black dial.

This was based on By-Tor's magnus opus review of it here, which he got for his girlfriend (he's updated it yesterday saying the watch is still running beautifully).

AWOL member, Lazarini, once asked for suggestions for getting a watch for his better half:

In this thread, JDavis suggests the one I like of the ones you showed, and apparently so does yours! The Omega Aquaterra.

Ajoesmith asked over a year ago, what was the most accurate Ladies rep watch out there:

Here's another thread, about watches for ladies:

Finally, over at Repgeeks, there is a whole section brimming full of photographs called "Women's Watches".

NOTE: I frequently post photos of ladies rep watches in the Wristchecks. Here is a sampling, but I'm afraid I cannot post them all here, as I forget where they are. :p

  10. The good thing about being a strapaholic, is that I get to support a lot of strapmakers in the forums I'm a member of -- gen and rep alike. :victory:

Xlr8tn first turned me on to his straps, after posting a collection pic of them, remember?

    IMG_7467-1.JPG

I thought, wow, that is a combination of Greg Stevens (especially the Toro Moro blue stitch, in the middle), FxrAndy's textured buffalo straps, plus V's elegant touch. I fell in love with the light brown strap, with creme stitching -- and ordered one.

    IMG_7474.JPG

I PMed Brent with my details, telling him I love LOOONG straps. No problems, he said. He even let me punch my own hole! :thumbsupsmileyanim:

How can I describe it? It's leather which looks like toffee dipped in cocoa, smoked over a wood-burning stove. And smooth and soft as a baby's derri

  11. Hey there, Zoeblogrow!

I guess what the guys are saying is what a lot of newbies need to know -- that RWG is more like a repository of information, there for the pickings.

Also think of it like Home Depot, whose motto is "You can do it. We can help". ;)

First you search around to see what you want, narrow it down, know your tastes (formal, bling, gold, etc.). You can sure bet that after your research is done, people will help you out!

Don't worry about Perfect-Clones -- they are reputable. Perhaps one of the most in this hobby. Good luck!

  12. There was reportedly a little "Dewey Beats Truman" at NH Obama headquarters today, but I still say the pundits are overdoing it a little here. Polls are often wrong - way wrong. Pundits are often completely insane. And any time you get record turnout across all demographics, anything can happen.

Please remind me AGAIN NEVER to listen to pundits, polls and all that junk.

I can't believe I fell for the "poll/pundit" crapola again. :hammer:

Any way you slice it, this is really shaping up to be an interesting next month if you're a political junkie.

Hate politics, but I love the process. This is why I was Clerk of a polling precinct from 2004-2007, including the fateful Presidential Election of 2004 (what a day that was -- I even had a Michael Mooreish wiseguy try to film the voters). I "retired" last year.

Now I'm happy to be a spectator, because setting up that polling station was a major pain, especially since the other pollworkers were between 80 years old and death.

This thing is really wide open on both sides of the aisle with no front runners yet. It'll quite likely be a tight two person race until the end on the Democrat side, and on the Republican side the delegate leader hasn't even won a significant state yet. This is good stuff!!

Please note to those who don't know, that because our State, Florida, decided to up our primary to January 29th the DNC docked ALL their delegates (210 delegates lost!), and the RNC, half (now only 114).

This is probably why our cable and local stations are now SATURATED with Rudy, Huckabee, and other Repub ads, but I have yet to see ONE Democratic ad on TV. Basically, if you're a Democrat in Florida, you don't count in the primaries. Sorry guys.

  13. I thought Hillary was pretty genuine when she got emotional...Romney's sob stories on the other hand was a complete and utter joke

Yeah, but he did it like a man -- inside the limo.

(One of the most surprising comebacks I've personally ever seen. ALL the pundits and most of my friends were saying, "stick a fork in her, she's done")

  14. WEDNESDAY

There's an exciting new strapmaker around, and today, I'm showing off a beauty of a strap he made me (more later).

This is the Andrew PAM 177 on "xlr8tn" (Brent's) smokey brown suede strap! :tu:

My first black and white wristcheck. You like?
