  1. I got this for my boyfriend, but never got around to sending it...it's not a quality watch like King's.

    296448-1478.jpg

    296448-1477.jpg

It was from the same member who sold me the hard-to-find Lange1 Timezone. He has great, unusual taste.

  2. I belive it is sweden that your fine is tailored to your income, low earner = low fine, So dont go to court with a low income and 20k in wrist jewlery.

I Googled, and it's that way in Finland too, apparently.

From a black friend once I heard she never goes to apply for public aid wearing anything but jeans and a t-shirt, with no bling at all obviously. Also true of unemployment insurance. I wondered what a bureaucrat could do, if you're entitled to what you're entitled? Ah well. :)

  3. etienne-louis-espresso-coffee-machine.jpg

    :o

Ryyannon should be all over this post, as will TeeJay.

I'm guessing it was named for Etienne Louis Bollee, the architect. Amongst his abortive projects in the late 1700s...a cenotaph to Sir Isaac Newton.

    Newton_memorial_boullee.jpg

    Freakily the same!

This is a little too avant-garde for me. One of my neighbours has the FrancisFrancis espresso machine, which Baryshnikov gave the Sarah Jessica Parker character in Sex in the City.

  4. If Vicky was staying in a youth hostel, that must have been some time ago...in Brussels (or any other big city) it's possible that the cab driver, playing on her youth and inexperience, really 'took her for a ride' - and thus the huge fare.

You know, this exchange had an odd effect on me.

I actually went in search of any photos or mementos of that particular stay in Brussels (I don't have a scanner, but I could've taken a photo of the photo). You know what I was searching for? I went to Mini-Europe during that trip, and actually took one of their little "people" maquettes from one of the exhibits. Oh, and I derailed their mini-Eurostar by placing a rock on the rails. I took a photo of that. :)

But knowing people, I would then become a thief who stole from a theme park, not to mention a vandal.

Ryyannon, you can't win when the dice are loaded against you. I learnt that years ago, when a little jealous girl in my school had similar reactions. On a happier note, today is my dad's birthday, and we might go to Le Bouchon du Grove, the best (most authentic) French resto in Miami. :)

  5. Hey all, I need some opinions on what watch I should wear to traffic court - my frankenjust or my 111H? This is the outfit i am planning on wearing

UB7, neither, especially if it's DUI. If it's something like minor speeding, then the 111h (overall, that watch looks best with the combo you chose, anyway).

Good luck, buddy...maybe the cop won't show up. :)

Followup: Wow, we're all saying the same thing. Trust legal proceedings to bring RWG together.

@UB7 below: If it's a very minor ticket, the Tissot. It's a good marque without being snobby. Still say don't wear any watch, or a Casio, even...

  6. I've got the Pam bug and am lining up a radiomir to add to my modest collection... thought I'd ride this thread - do you guys prefer the cali dial or something like the 232 (see below - image from Davidsens web... hope no-one minds)?

    DSCF0611.jpg

Sam, taste is a very delicate topic, but I myself would go with the updated tobacco-dial 232, if there's a choice. It just looks so much better.

    Two quick Pros/Cons

249 - Exposition Caseback/Plexiglass 'crystal'/some members at RWI pointed out the dial flaws

232 - Closed Exposition Caseback / Sometimes the wrong shade of brown/better, accurate dial

If you do get the Cali, and the 249 plexiglass dome breaks, make sure you ask Davidsen for spares. Not sure if he sells them, or includes them if you ask.

Member dluddy has the 232, and perhaps he can give you better info. :)

  7. You can't resist to jump in every bloody thread and say "I know, I've been there"...

    The truth ?!

The Truth is you never came to Brussels

    For such an internet pro...

I'm sorry Stephane. You are wrong about my stay(s) in Brussels. But that's not the matter here. You have problems with me as can be evinced by your "you can't resist to jump in every bloody thread", as if somehow as a member I should stay away from threads which interest me, or where I can add info, like anyone else.

I think this will come up each and every time we have a conversation. I cannot tell you what to do, but I don't want to start the new year with old troubles. Goodbye.

  8. mmmmmmmmmm

    Rolex Flagship Model

    gaytona.JPG

That's my favourite photo, Narikaa. Actually, serious question -- what is the rep watch activity like in Russia these days? Mostly Rolexes?

I know Shura sometimes reads these threads, and he might know, but do any of you collectors sell a lot of reps to those in Russia?

I'm guessing that the people who have the money to afford these kinds of Gaytonas know the difference between a real one, and a fake one. And in a place where money is GUSHING, maybe being a poseur is bad news (and dangerous).

  9. Victoria,

Sorry but I doubt you ever came to my city.

I live here since 47 years now.

I took a cab (cause didn't want to drive drunk) the other day from avenue de la Basilique to boulevard G

  10. Nice to see Brussels doesnt come on thelist, book up people and get to the Euro GTG  :gathering:

I think I'm one of the few people in this world that is not Belgian who thinks Brussels isn't ugly. Or boring. But hey, they have a LOT of free museums and I like that.

However, food is prohibitively expensive in certain parts of Belgium. As in dining out, but also in supermarkets. And a taxi ride in Brussels? Wow. Prepare to mortgage your undies.

I'm no rube, and always settle on the fare before getting in the taxi (in French), but once to take me from the icky, and dangerous Gare du Midi station to my youth hostel, the Jacques Brel, it was the equivalent of U$69. I almost fainted. When questioned the cabbie said, "This is the capital of Europe" (shrug). What can you say, right?

Property values and the consequent rent in Brussels are very high...I think it's actually cheaper in Paris in the 17eme.

Well, I think the matter has been settled, so best of luck and croissants aux chocolat on Ryyannon! :p

  11. A friend sent this pic & I thought some of you might get a chuckle out of it (the billboard advertisement is real)

    143425553_9486695387_b.jpg

    YES!!

I think that's covering GUM department store in Red Square, near the Lenin Mausoleum. :tu:

I haven't been this happy about the transfiguration of Russia into a maniacally tacky consumerist mecca since seeing this photo:

    gorbachev1.jpg

    Hope they have Narikaa's number (& Bergie's).

  12. Oh my, I hate those drug tests

    LOL!

I remember telling Slai that his photo was the coolest I had ever seen. (He was in an airport terminal awaiting his flight) He said he didn't think his fellow passengers thought so, since he kept taking photos of his wrist. ;)

How many shots on average do you guys take, for the Wristchecks?

Me, about 5 per "composition". 1-2-3. I don't take long.

@Shundi: Aww, man, I feel bad now. You're right. BUT the fact is we're not used to it, clothingwise, and our homes are not well-insulated! The first thought I had was, what happens to the homeless during a rare SoFla cold night...

  13. Zojirushi

Its Japanese, pure excellence at an affordable price

It's one of those brands that you've heard of, but never really paid attention to -- well, I didn't in Japan! The dual coffeemaker shipped out today. Will take a wristshot with my first cup o'Joe from the Zoji. :)

P.S.: You really are in love with your wife's country, Ajoesmith. That's beautiful to see!

@Doc Savage: Whoa. Good idea. This remote is REALLY cool. I'm searching for anything in my home that needs a remote, just to be able to use it.

...you know, Doc, you and I are scarily similar in tastes. Hmm. ;)

  14. Narikaa is exactly the chap you should be talking to -- his Richard Lange models are the closest to gen, since Langes are NOTORIOUSLY tricky to replicate correctly.

Here is a recent thread on my (dad's) Lange1 Zeitzone. You might find it profitable, if you haven't already. ;)

    http://www.rwg.cc/members/index.php?s=&amp...st&p=368121

(I do have a link I was given privately, if you're interested. I believe it's frowned upon to post non-forum dealers details, so just PM if you want!)

  15. Vic, any thoughts on the Aeropress? IMO, it's not glamorous, it simply makes a great cup of coffee.

It'll be here any moment. I'll let you know in this thread, when it arrives! :)

You know the prezzies I received for Christmas are just "hitting" now. I got a new DVD-Recorder Monday, the Gaggia machine arrived on Saturday, the Zojirushi Drip Dual comes any day, but THIS BABY arrived today, the Logitech Harmony 880 remote:

    lharmony880py8.jpg

    I'm in love.

    (I'm such a gadgets girl)

  16. Completly agree with you Vic, this strap is one of my favorite strap ;)

Already received one compliment about it, on RWI. I love to point out straps that I like -- but this came as a surprise even to me. ;)

    IMG_1787.jpg

Beautiful, Golfman! This and the Crazy Horse are my faves, of yours.

PS : Is it already "break" ?

Nah, it's not broken-in yet (I wish!). This is brand-new.

I had earlier bought an used Havanna Drifter that didn't have your patina. It was just yucky. It also smelt of men's cheap cologne. Like the kind some guys use to go clubbing. :animal_rooster:

  17. WEDNESDAY

Starting off the New Year with two straps I NEVER thought I'd combine or have. My Andrew PAM 177h on a Kaktus Havanna Drifter strap. A GORGEOUS brown.

Oh, and that's my Rotring Skynn fountain pen. Comfy and avant-garde.

    kaktushavanadrifterrotrnd4.jpg

South Florida is in the 50Fs/10Cs and it'll be in the 30Fs/0Cs tomorrow. Brrrr!! But look at that sun and sky! :tu:

    THURSDAY

Here's the "TeeJay" shot: the TWP PAM 210 on the Caoutchouc Rubber Diver strap. Looks like a Moon Landing. ;)

  18. I sure hate to see you over in Paris for any extended time The Zigmeister, I need you to fix my watches!

I was going to say -- this is a potential blow for all North Americans who wish their watches modded!

Because, and I say this with embarrassment because I am not the type to rag on the French (I love France), but La Poste sucks. They steal more packages than any other national mail carriers I've ever seen.

Especially stay away from posting packages from and to: PTT Paris Champs-Elys

  19. *Sees the strap*

My Precio- Sorry, I started chanelling Gollum there...

Where did you track down the OEM Bordeaux? I've been hitting up Google, yet having no luck at all...

I knew you'd LOVE it! I think I posted a Wristcheck when you were away...

I got it on Risti from IIRC, some Swedish guy who was selling it for $200 (new). I bargained him down to $170. It had the original OEM baggie from the Firenze shop. :)
